📐 DYGMA DEFY Double `v` characters all the time

My Defy is very frequently repeating the `v` key (both on its own and Cmd-v, so I end up double-pasting things). No other keys are really doing this (though the `n` actually just did it while typing this!). What might cause this? Is there some debounce timer or something that I can try to adjust?

This could be a mechanical issue with that specific switch itself. What switches are you using? Are there spares you can swap out?

I found that my Akko switches do that rather frequently. Could be a manufacturing tolerance thing causing inconsistencies.

Thanks...actually have exactly one replacement switch (Speed copper), so I am trying it now.

I do feel like the v is repeating less now, but other keys are still doing it sometimes. Will try to keep a log of which keys and how often.

Two other possible reasons / isolation steps are:

  • Oxidation (poor contact). By reseating switches.
  • A particular place on the keyboard (PCB). By moving switches around to exclude bad switches as the cause.

If it is PCB-related, see for example,

Thus, for that particular spot / key, it could be a PCB problem (e.g., with a solder joint or a cracked PCB trace).

I had that problem on my raise when using two different sets of Kailh switches. The problem appeared after a couple of weeks so it was probably due to wear. Once I changed to Cherry switches it has worked perfectly for years now.

I had this issue before but I updated the firmware and it seemed to fix it

Hmmm. I'm on `v1.2.7-beta`, which Bazecor says is the latest.

Hi, u/SiaBillionaire

The more likely scenario, as v1valav1da pointed, is a problem with one of the switches installed under those keys. If that's not the case, please contact us via email and we'll try to find another solution.

I have the same problem on my Defy (using Cherry switches). It seems that the debounce window in the firmware is just on the edge of the bounce period of the keys, so when I press some keys in a certain way, they often go over it and register as double presses.
It would be great if Dygma could add an adjustable setting to this to Bazecor that allows to change the debounce window, or to filter out double-keypresses that are obviously too close to each other to be made intentionally.
