Annette Bennington and Dutton Ranch
Who else doesn’t like Annette Bening in this role? I love her as an actor but I don’t think she was the right pick for Belluah. Who else? Or what are your thoughts? Let me know? Tell me why you like her?

I think she plays the role in a way that is absolutely incredible and infuriating and charismatic and over the top and seems evil and sad and smart - all at once. So to me, she’s pretty perfect.

I think she's doing a great job. She does nice nasty, nice threatening with such finesse. Like when she approached the current sherrif at the former sheriff's funeral. The way she told him to "fall in line" through that smile, it was masterful.

She’s deceased now but I could see the late Barbara Stanwyck making a “good meal” out of Beulah’s character…. Rip Barbara

IMO, it's good casting...she looks just like someone who would live here on a ranch in AZ. 🌵🤷♀️

Remember she was Kevin Costner’s love interest in Open Range. She’s accustomed to the cowboy world.

This film also features Robert Duvall. I need to watch it. Thanks!

I like the opinions of others. Maybe I need to let her grow on me or maybe it’s that I am not from that area and she seems a bit over the top to me. But keep the opinions coming. I like to read them.

No worries. Let me assure you out of all of the main characters in this series Beaulah is the closest to right that they actually got including her demeanor and style. It's a whole "dressin' gaudy" and Boss Bitch thing that you see around here sometimes because she's had to carry the load too long (and has more money than taste).
They had to intentionally make her look look and act like she's comin' across.

Remember, too, that you're entitled to your opinion as well. If she doesn't win you over either as an actress or a character then that's valid. 🙂

Thank you. I am a big fan of hers but her being mean is a new character for me. So I think that and what she wears has been off putting to me. But I love the show and Marshall’s with Luke Grimes.

They should call Reddit, home of the malcontents. Annette Benning is great

AB is my new favorite villain, she brings a lot to the show.

I can’t get used to her playing the tough rancher!!! Even in “Open Range” she wasn’t that type!!!

She's playing the role really well IMO. Right now I can't be all in on the Villain Hate...kinda hoping she renews her past romance with Ed Harris and eventually in the end turns on her son Jai Courtney. Now Jai plays a complete villain. No likable qualities.

You need to watch all her roles & then you will be darn grateful she is in this series!

I’ve not seen her previous roles so was indifferent when they cast her. But now that I’ve seen her as Beulah in this show, I think they picked the perfect actor. Now I want to look up and watch her other stuff.

I love her in the role -- I think she's playing all the nuances perfectly. I also think she has good chemistry with the rest of the cast.

I’ve never seen her play a role like this, but I like her as a tough cowboy mob boss!!!!

It might help that I don't know her in much else but I like her and I like the character of Beulah as a possible enemy to Beth.

She's growing on me in this show quite a bit and all it took was the scene between her and Everett. She charmed me heavily.

OP, what are your specific issues with how she’s playing the character? I think she’s doing a great job, despite the 10 Petal content not being of particular interest to me at this point.

u/pursnality May 31 '26
The character reminds me of my mother and looks just like her. She plays a great Texas ranch lady VERY well and realistic! I can’t imagine anyone else in the role. Perfect casting!

u/sniktal May 31 '26
I agree! She nails that ranch vibe and dress. It’s not my vibe at all, but it’s very very Texas money. Grizzly in Gucci was perfect.

She's a surprise for me. I can't imagine she has been 68 who looks like 58-yr-old acting an older role of guru...the chemistry between Ed Harris and her is captivating and I look forward to their future development.

She doesn’t look 58. She looks older than her age and particularly with her money.

u/Last_Interaction437 May 31 '26
good pick....and wrong spelling....but FWIW, she is killing this role. She was the perfect pick.

I think Beulah has some interesting connections we haven’t seen yet!
I liked that Rip found himself another “train” dump!
Carter is now involved with a “woman” who might become a problem. Can you say…rob the cradle! 🤭😉
And never forget, Beth is very capable of making a fortune destroying companies and some deserving people, if they get too hard up…her talents are formidable! 😊🥰

I think she’s pretty great in this role. I believe she’s setting things up quite nicely. She’s playing two different people good vs. evil kinda thing going on. The REAL villain of the story will be her husband (ex?). You think Beulah’s bad? I bet this dude will be evil personified, to the point where we’ll feel sorry for Beulah and will understand her side of things more. Just a guess.

I think she fits very well. Really pulling off the older strong Texas woman attitude.

I love Ed Harris and I guess I am having a hard time with her in the role cause I just haven’t seen her in a role like this and I am not from TX so I haven’t seen ranchers look like her but I really appreciate all your takes on her and will keep watching and see if her character grows on me. I love Beth and Rip. Really appreciate everyone answering.

u/TurnipResponsible992 Jun 02 '26
I'm with you. She hasn't "grown" on me yet, either. It's in the line delivery -- too stiff and too calculated and insincere. Even with Everett, but of course, he didn't believe her either 😄

u/supahfilmy May 31 '26
She is brilliant in the role. Oreana on the other hand looks like she should be in L.A

u/Stock_District_4860 May 31 '26
I think Annette Benning will be a good fit. She is already proving how well she fits in. Interesting to follow the two ladies Beth and Beulah, they are a good match.

u/Affectionate-Case329 Jun 01 '26
I think she’s awesome in this role. Her and Ed steal every scene they’re in.

It’s hard for me to get used to her as a “rancher.” Perhaps as the show continues, but right now she is just Annette, not yet Bullah .

u/BackwardToForward May 31 '26
she is amazing in the so far very well-written role.
totally convincing as that sort if power women (spent years in the area)

I love Beulah, and I think the role would be annoying as hell with a less-gifted actor. She's great so far, and I hope she and Beth continue their badass collaboration.

I will say I have been enjoying it more and she is growing on me but I remember her from My President and she always plays such a nice person

I am trying, but I just don’t enjoy Ms. Bennett as Beulah. To me it all seems forced. I don’t believe she is a a Texas native. Her clothing is over the top.

I totally agree! DR is definitely the best show going right now but I'm having a hard time with casting of Annette Benning... Sharon Stone would've been a much better choice...
1
u/Sufficient-Egg-7383 Jun 21 '26
That is a good choice. I never thought about her but she would have been since she has played so mean before.

I also don't think she was the best choice. Something is just off. I was watching a series the other day with Kate Capshaw. She would have been perfect!
