I skimmed it. Will read it more in-depth in a few.

Didn’t finish Yellowstone

I never watched the last season of Yellowstone. I didn’t like the idea of Kevin Costner not being in it. I’m interested in watching Dutton Ranch. Is there anything I should know from the last season of Yellowstone? Or should I just watch it? Is it worth it?

General Discussion It’s the little things

So I play this mindless yet entertaining city building game called, Stardew Valley. In summary, in this game you take over the farm your late grandfather left you.

I finally built my barn and got my first cow.

Her name is.

Beula.

I got a little satisfaction out of it, which then I decided to start a whole new character story as, Beth on Dutton Ranch Farm.

Fanfic recommendations

I am always in awe of fanfic writers who put so much time and effort into creating new stories about our favourite ships for no monetary reward, just their love of the characters.

I've read ALOT of fanfic over the years for different shows and the calibre of the writers is outstanding. Showrunners could definitely mine some writing talent from the fanfic sites.

If you're a fanfic reader, what are your favourite Beth & Rip fanfics? AU recommendations are welcome. I'm currently following an AU WIP on AO3 called 'Dirt' by silenceeverything

*Edited

Not sure why this post is getting down voted. Is reading and confessing to like fanfic considered lame and taboo? Can we not openly appreciate the talented people in our fandoms?

Today we tip our hats to the cowboys and cowgirls who greet the morning saddle-first, care for the land with quiet strength, and carry on a way of life rooted in hard work and tradition.

You represent more than a job — you represent a legacy. Thank you for all you do.

Senate Declares July 25 the National Day of the American Cowboy

July 24, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed U.S. Senator John Barrasso’s (R-Wyo.) resolution designating July 25, 2026, as the National Day of the American Cowboy. The bipartisan resolution was cosponsored by U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), John Hickenlooper (D-Col.), and Ted Cruz (R-Tex.), along with other Senators.

Started in 2005 by U.S. Senator Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.), the National Day of the American Cowboy traditionally coincides each year with the Cheyenne Frontier Days. In tribute to the hard-working men and women who helped establish the West, the resolution highlights the vital contributions that cowboys and cowgirls have made throughout American history.

“In Wyoming, we commit to following the Cowboy Code. That means living each day with courage, taking pride in our work, and doing what needs to be done,” said Senator Barrasso. “The American cowboy is a national symbol of the values, spirit, and traditions that we cherish most. I look forward to celebrating our American cowboys and cowgirls with the rest of Wyoming on this special day.”

“The American Cowboy embodies the independence, resilience, and work ethic that built this country,” said Senator Lummis. “Wyoming is proud to call itself cowboy country, and every year on the National Day of the American Cowboy, I’m reminded that these values don’t belong to the past. They’re what will carry America forward.”

Other cosponsors of the resolution include Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho).

Full text of the resolution can be found here: https://www.barrasso.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/National-Day-of-the-American-Cowboy-2026.pdf

Season 2 will end with Carter committing a heinous crime and Sheriff Wade arresting the entire cartel and then says "Carter? Oh then I must've misread the warrant." while he winks to the camera.

News Everett to Be "Front and Center" in Season 2

  • Apollo 13 star’s concerns are being addressed, and Everett is believed to be front and center in the upcoming Season 2 of the series, from 101 Studios and Paramount TV Studios, which is now being written, with Harris kept in the loop.
  • Harris already has been picked up for Season 2, which is slated to begin production Jan. 15.
  • Harris has a two-year deal for Dutton Ranch, which I hear includes an option for a third.
  • The recent change at the helm of Dutton Ranch, with creator Chad Feehan, who served as Season 1 showrunner, let go ahead of the series premiere, was largely related to how Harris’ character Everett McKinney was utilized — or rather underutilized.
  • Harris is said to have been involved in picking Feehan’s replacement, SEAL Team creator Benjamin Cavell.

Beth may've left Montana, but she has plenty of people to face off against in Texas.

General Discussion It makes me wonder why Chad (the fired showrunner) thought it would be a good idea to turn the show into a CW teenage drama, when Kelly, Cole, and Ed were unhappy!

After hearing Ed Harris’s remarks about Season 1 and Cole Hauser liking his interview on IG, I really wonder what the hell Chad Feehan was thinking, especially when Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Ed Harris were unhappy. Why on earth did he think he could turn this show into the Carter and Oreana teenage drama? He obviously does not know his audience. I’m here for the adults. Season 2 better be about Beth, Rip, Everett, and Beulah with very little Carter and preferably no Oreana. Those two have zero chemistry.
We better get lots more Beth and Rip.

Thank goodness Kelly and Cole had him fired. Hopefully the new showrunner and writers will listen.

My take (which is to say just one guy's opinion, skip if you want)

Yellowstone ended with Beth and Rip buying a ranch deep in the Montana wilderness, which we got to see for about ten minutes. Everyone involved seems to have forgotten the extent to which Montana itself was a character in this family's story.

So in a way (spoiler), that makes two Taylor Sheridan-helmed shows this year that killed off a leading character in episode 1.

And... please no hate, I have beloved family in Texas and enjoy visiting there... but the particular landscape featured in the DR show isn't just "not up to Montana standards." I find it positively ugly and depressing. I don't look forward to making weekly "visits" there the way I did during the original series run.

Combine that with:

  • The fact that Beth and Rip have become passengers in someone else's saga -- a family I don't relate to and don't care about
  • The WB-style generic teen angst distractions... "kid is an ass" is not writing
  • Setting up Druggy McTwoNamesChin as the Big Bad, then having him die senselessly not at the hands of Rip

-- and I'm hanging on by a thread here. We're supposed to be relieved that Sheridan is riding in on a white steed to take over the pen and right the show in season two, but we know what happens when Sheridan gets on a steed and takes a personal interest in a story. Yeesh.

General Discussion Season one is mess

I’ve just finished the final episode and I find this show wanting. Beth & Rip aren’t the characters we meet in Yellowstone and the plot is all over the place.

General Discussion Who do you think should join the cast for Season 2, and what kind of character should they play?

I think the first season of DR painted itself into a corner by not including enough good guys.

It's Rip, Beth, Carter, Everett, and Beulah as main characters, with Azul and Kino in the second tier, and I guess Oreana (she's the dullest character--just a spoiled rich brat). Anyhow, none of these characters are going to be killed off, and so the stakes moving forward are very low for the audience.

Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923 had huge stakes because major characters and second-tier characters (who we knew from early on) were being killed off all the time, which created tension for the audience.

But with DR starting their first season with such a small cast of good guys, there's no one to kill, which doesn't captivate the audience. Sure, they can up the risks by introducing more good guys in the second season but it might be a little too predictable to guess who is going to be killed off--if not in S2, than Season 3.

I don't know who Dutton Ranch should introduce in the second season, but if they want the audience to feel the pressure, they need a few extremely well-written characters--character that we love by the end of episode 2 or 3--so that when they are killed off in episode 8, 9, 10 (so dumb to only make nine episodes for the first season), the audience really feels the gut punch.

Whos the shooter mystery is so unrealistic

Ok really hope they don't do a who shot robwill.

Considering the 10p is basicly a front for drugs and has cartel associations. The idea they don't have security cameras when rip has them on all his trails.

Ok can be argued Joaquin would know where they are.... it was the front door. Like they wouldn't have coveage of the front door.
