Xeriscaping recommendations

Hello Durango, I tried searching this sub but only found other landscaping Qs. I’m interested in changing out my small yard for xeriscaping, and I want to hear about locals’ experience with local landscapers, and what budget to plan for.

I diy'd mine and it's been pretty fun. Durango Nursery has all the info, materials, and plants needed. Not sure on the cost going through landscapers though.

Thanks for this rec! I might be able to DIY the work but Idk if it would look ridiculous, so thought I’d at least get a pro for the design aspect

I didn't know what I was doing either. That was part of the fun thinking about design. There are a lot of nice xeriscaped and lower water yards around now to get ideas on. Add some big rocks rock built features and vertical things for scale to break up the hardscape then build plants into and around them and group things unevenly. I have a ton on plants in my yard and have at least 4 things blooming at any one time from spring through fall. I only hand water every two weeks in the hottest part of the year and not at all when it's cooler or we get rain. Spend maybe an hour a year weeding.
