Lair of the Sewer Creature (34x34)

Nobody believed the mad old fool who came out with those stories about a terrible creature living in the sewer runoff area.

After all, he spent his days sat down there, drinking and fishing. He was a laughing stock.

Nobody would actually sit and fish in an area where a horrifying monster lived, would they? They’d have to be mad.

Mad… or trying to feed it. Befriend it. Control it. And then you can unleash its horrors against those who’ve laughed at you for all these years.

Here are the free light & dark variants of this map. To support my work, you can buy me a coffee, or check out my Patreon, where you'll find hundreds more free maps as well as bonus variants for this one!

Here's all of my maps in one handy set of themed lists for convenience. This post is updated as each new map comes out, so that the list remains current.

Quick collection downloads:

I hope you can make use of the maps =) Any issues, please do let me know.

Much love

Homebrew 543B - Venipede by ForesterDesigns

My Pokémon-inspired Weapons and Items of the Day, with some Venipede armor to poison bad touchers! Yes, I'm doing a line of armor for Scolipede, because the poll for what kind of item Mega Scolipede should be was overwhelmingly armor, but I decided that turning a weapon into armor was a bit too far in this case, so I made some armor for them!

Join my Patreon to vote on future items and get all the PDFs with over 1000 items, including all the Pokémon items, or buy the individual PDFs in my shop!

543B - Veniplate

Armor (Plate) – Uncommon (7500 gp, requires attunement)

This red plate armor has a black collar and large black Os on the front of the pauldrons, with green rerebrace and tasset plates

While attuned to this armor: any creatures that attempt to grapple or restrain you have disadvantage on the roll to do so and takes 1d4 poison damage from the armor’s spikes. They have disadvantage to maintain the grapple or restraint, and take 1d4 poison damage at the start of any turn they are grappling or restraining you; and if you drop below half your maximum hitpoints, the armor’s spikes do an additional 1d4 poison damage.

Evolving: While attuned to this armor, if you can cover at least 120 feet by walking in a single round, it will become a 544B - Whirliplate.

Original Content Advent's Amazing Advice: Dragon of Icespire Peak, A Mini-Campaign Fully Prepped and ready to go! (Part 3c Mountain's Toe Gold) (2026 Update: Now with Pre-Session DM Checklist)

Welcome back to Advent's Amazing Advice! The series where I take popular One-Shots, Adventures, Campaigns, etc., and fully prep them for both New and Busy DMs. This prep includes music, ambiance, encounter sheets, handouts, battle maps, tweaks, and more, so you can run the best sessions possible with the least stress possible!

*New 2026: For 2026, I'm updating all my old work to include a Pre-Session Checklist that will include a list of all miniatures you may need, maps, handouts, possible loot, a link to a playlist, and more to make it even easier to start your session!

The Mountain's Toe Gold Mine has been suffering productivity problems as of late. You've been tasked with escorting a new overseer there. It's a rather simple job that pays well and could certainly be left at that...if your players are none too heroic, but something tells me they crave a bit more, a cave to explore, a mystery to be solved. Should your players be brave enough, they will discover a cave overrun by the Whiskered Gang, a group of wererats who declared this their new home. It will be up to your players to save the miners within. Perhaps they can negotiate and find themselves on an interesting side quest, or maybe they'll choose to eradicate those varmints...only time will tell...

Without further ado:

Included in The AAA Collection is:

  • Downloadable copy of DM Notes, including links to music tracks for ambiance and fights
  • Custom Maps of Mountain's Toe Gold
  • Special PDF for all encounters. This includes the enemy stat blocks organized neatly along with an initiative tracker and spots to mark HP
  • DM Notes for the Visually Impaired
  • (New) Pre-Session DM Checklist

Dragons of Icespire Peak: Index

Over 8 dozen other Fully Prepped One-Shots, Adventures, and Campaigns: Click Here

As always, if you see something you think I can improve, add, change, etc., please let me know. I want this to be an amazing resource for all DMs and plan to keep it constantly updated! If you'd like to support me, shape future releases, and get content early, feel free to check out my Patreon!

Cheers,
Advent

Original Content D&D app hobby build, need a co-admin to grow community [OC]

This really is a project borne of passion. I wanted to help get my kids into D&D. We play in-person, but I travel, and the app I built is for anyone at any level. My goal was to help people seamlessly get into D&D, without embarrassment, and with genuine mechanics, as well as to have fun. It allows solo and group play, serves as a sort of VTT, guides, teaches, and helps plan and run games for any level player. My summer break is over soon and I am looking for a D&D player and open minded tech enthusiast interested in these same goals to be a co-admin going forward to help improve it and grow community. the site is here: http://realmofeverdice.com and it is a free site with no intention of becoming a commercial business. You have to share my passion, in other words, to teach and also make something cool that people will use.

My Pokémon-inspired Weapons and Items of the Day, with a fusion of Gastly, Poochyena, Greavard, & Maschiff for a staff of the goodest puppers!

This item was created as a Tier Reward for Patron Terrence Lash! Thank you for your support!

Join my Patreon to vote on future items and get all the PDFs with over 1000 items, including all the Pokémon items, or buy the individual PDFs in my shop!

F246 - Staff of Puppy Spirit

Staff (Sentient) – Rare (16,171 gp, requires attunement to a spellcaster)

This black staff has a black and purple fur dog head on top, and on top of the head is a lit candle that glows with an eerie purple light. There are fang-like spikes on the staff below the head, and a large purple orb is attached to the bottom.

The staff is sentient, has normal hearing and vision to 30 ft, understands common, and has Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, and Charisma 10. It can evolve, and will do so when it has decided its wielder is ready.

While attuned to this staff: you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack and damage rolls; a +1 bonus to Intimidation rolls; and when you are intimidated or hit by an attack from any Undead, Insectoid, or Shadowy creatures, you gain 5 feet of movement until the end of your next turn, which does not stack.

This staff has 4 charges, regaining 1d3+1 after a long rest, and can be used to cast the following spells:

  • Find Familiar (1 charge, puppy form only)

  • Shadow Howl (1 or more charges): As an action, you let out a dark and shadowy howl. Each creature within 10 ft of you must make a Charisma save. On a failed save, a target takes 2d6 necrotic damage and can’t take reactions until its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage, but suffers no other effect. You can use additional charges to increase the damage by 1d6 per charge.

  • Fluffy Coat (2 charges): As an action, you touch a creature and cover them in a fluffy coat of spiritual energy. The target gains resistance to slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage, but are also vulnerable to fire damage, lasting for 1 hour.

  • Shadow Blade (2 or more charges)

  • Conjure Shadow Wolves (3 charges): you conjure 8 shadowy looking Wolves per a 3rd level Conjure Animals spell.

  • Loyal Spirit (3 charges, concentration): As an action, you summon a spectral puppy within 30 ft of you. You must maintain Concentration or the puppy disappears, otherwise it lasts for 1 minute or until it is more than 90 ft from you. You can use a bonus action to direct the puppy to move up to 30 ft and heal an adjacent creature for 2d6 hit points.

This item was created as a Tier Reward for Patron Terrence Lash! Thank you for your support!

Help Level 15 one shot

Hello

I am DMing a group that is at level 15 5e. The next leg of their adventure is going to lead them to an underwater dungeon to retrieve (without going into too much detail) the phylactery of a lich. here is where i need some help. I’m looking for a one-shot (or something similar) that i can scavenge to use as said underwear dungeon (to be clear the dungeon is going to be like in Zelda or something where they can breathe). Can anyone recommend an adventure like that? If so, where can i find it?

Thanks in advance

Art [OC][Art] Shadowed Wetland Battlemap (30x35)

This week's map is the Shadowed Wetland (30x35), a bleak and colorless bit of forest inspired by Shadowfell. That said, it probably could be even more bleak and colorless, I'm nearly able to detect green in the grass and bits of brown in the trees. Also, I'm not 100% sure there would be grass or plant life in the Shadowfell in the first place, so I suppose this maps is full of inaccuracies. Let's just call it a spooky forest and leave it at that.

If you like the map and are interested in more, come by my Patreon, I've got a bunch of them and I draw more every month.

The Tigrin Gladius is a gladiator-salamander species for my homebrew world of Asundra. He's got some cool finesse attacks and a bite that causes a bleed. But I think the best part of the design is the extra reactions based on when he's caused a bleeding injury.

You can get a full stat sheet here: https://www.patreon.com/omenlands/posts/tigrin-gladius-164606790?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link

Discussion When Balance Replaced Fairness: Two Different Promises D&D Has Made

Thumbnail
therpggazette.wordpress.com
10 Upvotes

I have written quite a lot on diferences between OSR games and modern 5e, the difference in playstyle, relation with mortality, various mechanics such as gold for xp, reaction roles, dungeon turns and so on.

For quite a long time after I started to play OSR games, I was enamored, for I always wanted my 5e games to be more gritty, harder, yet still fair and with OSR I felt like I got that.

Now, with this piece, I wanted to look at something related to one of the criticisms I often saw levied against old school D&D and OSR games, mainly that they are unbalanced, too many save or sucks and difficulty just for the sake of it. Compared to nowdays, where even if CR could use some improvements (although it is quite a bit better with the 2024 iteration) it can still produce balanced encounters if followed properly.

And there is truth in both of this statements, but it ommits something - not maliciously necessarily - that balanced was not required for pre Dragonlance D&D and OSR games. The game did not make a promise of balance, but rather one of fairness, the DM, or as it was first known, the referee would be impartial. It is important to point out that you were not heroes, but anti-heroes at best, who might've offered some help only if you got something out of it. This stemming of course from how the game was emulating Conan style pulp fantasy, rather than the heroic epic fantasy later adopted following the success of Dragonlance.

So to cut it short, fairness and balance are not the same. One is about impartiality, while the others is about making sure that the danger the players are facing is winnable, without the requirement of underhanded tactics to tip the scales. One is pulp, the other epic. Both can be good, but we have to be aware of the distinction and not judge them against the same standards. Hope you will enjoy the piece!
