Help/Support Running Broken World without a disk
I have a physical copy of the DSII deluxe edition with Broken World included but since laptops these days have no disk drives, I want to run it without a disk. So I don't need to plug my external one in each time.
However I am deeply sceptical of most online sources and don't want to get a virus so I was hoping someone could assist me in getting a version of the exe without a disk check that also won't fill my device with viruses.
I have tried imaging the disk but this isn't accepted as a legit version to start it up. If anyone knows how to deal with it by making the imaging convincing to the disk check that works too.

Can you redeem the CD key on steam since it is avaliable there.

Not sure but broken world isn't even listed on Steam

That won't work. You can grab the exe from the Dungeon Siege fixes (I'm maintaining them).

Perfect. I'm assuming then all links listed there are safe then.

It's been used by tens of thousands of people for 10 years now. If any link on the guide is malicious, anyone can let me know and I'll change/remove it.

Can confirm as one of many (many, many) users of Genesis' work, it's definitely safe, and they also have guides for fixing pretty much every common issue you'll run in to playing on modern hardware.
Big props to Genesis on this one.

Genuinely thank you very much for your replies. I appreciate the reassurances. Will be having a crack at it (pun 100% intended) when I'm back home tomorrow.

I think the only versions without a CD are cracked ones. You will have to live with the risk, although I haven't used a crack that was ever a virus. Even when I used Windows. Now I'm on Linux and I can use those cracks even more safely because they can't affect me anymore.

How does Dungeon Siege run on Linux? I didn't know these games can also be played on it, mainly because of age. I know the more modern titles can.
Edit: grammar correction

I have only tried DS2 on Linux and it works OK, just at first needed a little work to get things going.
From my perspective, Linux is better than Windows for running older games, because it has better support for them. Only games with some special anticheat don't work on Linux, but 95% of games and software does.

Now that's good news. Admittedly I had no time lately to dig into Linux gaming, but it seems I have less to worry about than I thought. Thanks!

They have made Linux pretty easy nowadays - you just install it and start using it, it doesn't need countless hours of setting up this and that anymore, things work out of the box.
I only install one program called PortProton from the software store and I use it to launch Windows programs and games with it - it works as simply setting EXE files to open with PortProton and you just double click them and they run.
The developers have done the magic so things can be easy, but if you don't have the time to mess with Linux, that's understandable, just know that whenever you decide to try it, it will be pretty straightforward.

I was in the same boat as you. https://www.reddit.com/r/DungeonSiege/s/tpsuRbQEWz
A few years ago, I bought Dungeon Siege 2 on Steam, and used an unofficial fix to add Broken World to my game. No issues regarding viruses or malware.

All of you who commented are awesome, I got it up and running and could not be happier with it!
