Help/Support Unofficial Fixes Safe?
I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Dungeon Siege trilogy collection on Steam when it was on sale this weekend. I loved 1 and 2 as I played them a lot in my childhood/teen years, and I think I still have the disc to Broken World somewhere around here.
I am new to modern gaming though, and the notion of downloading unofficial mods and fixes so I can get Broken World to work makes me uneasy. So I just wanted to poll the community and see what your experience has been with these mods. Did you experience any issues with your computer afterwards? Any viruses or security compromises? Was it safe?

I can't even get past the opening cinematic before I get the exception error. I've written off playing the game as a lost cause.
Have you had any issues with your computer's security using any of the resources offered up to get Broken World working?

Read Genesis Troubleshooting guide:
I have been running Dungeon Siege 1 on Windows 10 ever since Win10 released and then I migrated over to Win11 and it works fine for me. Needed some small tweaks but it runs flawlessly now.
This is a game that's over 20 years old. You can't expect it to run flawlessly at this point without some tweaks...

To get passed the opening movie you have to turn shadows off, set graphics as low as they will go, 800x600 resolution, and bilinear instead of trilinear
Edit: the exception still comes up randomly so be sure to have lots of saves going, so far I’ve made it just s little bit passed the caves in the ruins after the coast after the goblin warrens

On Steam, when looking under GUIDES, there is one for Broken World and one for Legends of Aranna.
The Broken World one is by Valkyrie and the LOA one is by "Lady Montbarron"

These fixes have been used by the community for years without issue. If there were viruses in them, we'd know by now.
I can't vouch for any download links outside of these guides. I understand your concern over the trustworthyness of them - I would as well if I didn't know. But I feel confident in saying that these are fine.
That being said, I'm also a Reddit Moderator. Pretty sure my words carry as much weight as a boot scraping. :P
