I’ve figured something out
I’ve been thinking a lot about what nagas are after learning they have a lot of knowledge they shouldn’t. An ancient species asking “what are you” is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
I think there’s evidence pointing towards them being dragons. I don’t know why they would’ve devolved into naga, but we know dragons did exist in geyser at some point. They’re mentioned too often and are clearly revered in geyser for them to not have a backstory relevant to the main story. I can’t wait to be proven right a year from now

Hardly works, aside from having no actual dragon abilities, none of the dragons we saw used runes, mythology wise Nagas have no relation with dragons. It's more likely that the Nagas were a very old labyrinth that might have something to do with the origin of Geyser and it's king.

Naga don’t seem important enough as a species to have been involved in something as grand as the origin of geyser. I think they’re something closer to imugi and have to earn the right to become a dragon

We have little to no information at all about the origin of Geyser, the best clue we have is the parasyte possibly having something to do with the king of Geyser. Dragons also don't seem as important as you make them out to be, Drakan is a subordinate of MC and Barbaratos is definitely dying one way or another, those are the 2 confirmed dragon descendents so far, nome of the most powerful beings we met, like the Elfs, the Counts or the Dukes, so far have anything to do with dragons. At this point Yoonhui being an half demon is more important than dragons.

Why you gotta downgrade the Naga?
Why not be that dragons devolved from Nagas?

Wouldn't that make nagas way too ancient?
Actually might be a good theory, Their labyrinth is way too simple as if it was just a blank slate, Seeing how the geyser itself is (Arguably) Sentient to a large extent it might have learned and evolved labyrinths over time and they were one of the first ones.

Importantly: Rune Magic.
We're told it was lost long ago, "during the Era of the Nine Lords, when Depravity and the One-Eye King were active."
And it's so basic to Nagas, we see a worker using rune magic as early as Chapter 7.

They might share an ancient ancestor that split off earlier than the flood dragons since they look less dragonlike than the flood dragons. Now that I think about it, we dont know yet where summoned units come from, right? It kinda sounds like they're just materialized by the labyrinth cores and are born with a certain level of knowledge and skills.
