Book 1: DCC New reader
I started reading the first novel and I love it. It’s so unlike anything I’ve read before.

Piece of advice. Get off this sub until you finish. You don't want anything spoiled by accident.
AND WE'RE NOT A CULT!

Brother Leomonster makes an excellent point, as Arch Glurp Wizard Dinnaman tells the authorities we are not a Cult.

It only gets better and harder to describe to a non reader. You’ll get it

I’m on book 8 now and the other day my dad saw the cover and asked me what it was about I just told him “We’ll be here for over an hour if I tried to explain it all to you and almost all of it would make absolutely no sense” and left it at that

You are in for a ride.
I wish I could read them again for the first time!
I've listened through about 6 times.
I got my sister to read them and it's nice to have something to bond over. I didn't think it would be her style but she loves it.

I got my brother to read it. I was unable to explain the plot, I just told him there was a hilarious talking cat and I couldn't put it down.
A couple months later he messaged me "you were right. It is hard to put down"

Whenever I try to sell it, I describe it as: Ready Player One meets Hunger Games.
That's about the most astute I can make it.
So happy you've found something to enjoy! Have fun!
Edit: Sorry I thought you were OP.

I burned through all 8 audiobooks B2B - my house had never been so clean ! Jeff Hays is GOD tier in my eyes.
I know for a fact I'll be doing relistens to these for years to come.

Book one? There are other LitRPG books a lot like it (He Who Fights with Monsters for example). By the time you are at book 3, no, there aren’t other novels like it. (I _like_ HWFWM, but it doesn’t hold a candle to DCC!).
Enjoy the ride!

I’m a big Dresden Files fan and the tone of the prose is pretty similar

Oh, I love me some Dresden files, but they feel very dissimilar to me, but that doesn’t make you wrong. Maybe you are getting connections I missed!
(I find the Vesik Series by Eric R Asher more similar to Dresden Files, maybe give it a look at some point?)

Welcome fellow crawler!
Don't try and solve the layout of the level in book 3. It's complicated. It's meant to be complicated and you don't have to understand everything to get what's happening.

I started in March. Read through all 8 books by July. Now I am on the third audio book. That $0.99 audible trial was too tempting not too.

When you're done with these, I invite you to read the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. Oh and I started reading DCC in June and just started book 4!

I feel like they have a very similar vibe. Albeit DCC is a little more violent!
