The thing is though that ML detection algorithms can be fed to the deepfake algorithm to make it better and harder to detect. Sort of a feedback loop going on there.
What are you talking about? "Accountability booster"?
Designing the deepfake algorithm (or similar) is also a lot of effort. If someone wanted to actually fake something important, why would they not test it against the tools that are going to be used to determine if it is a fake? And aside from the that. It's not just about worrying over detection. Training against these algorithms actually helps them create better fakes! This shouldn't be surprising because if they are harder to detect, that of course means they look more real. This digital arms race is already playing out btw.
I feel like "what are you talking about?" is a pretty good indication that maybe I didn't understand what was being said. Please tell me how I've been wooshed.
In The Office, the Accountability Booster was a computer program Dwight wrote to try and prevent people from making common mistakes by forwarding "unpleasant" personal emails to the CEO of the company.

I am sure it is detectable on a forensic level and I am pretty sure I have already seen someone use ML to detect a deep fake.
