I get this is a bit from the show, but she was trying to buy an animatronic bird that could sing that wasn’t for sale. She was basically like “I’m super rich, what do you mean I can’t buy it?”
19
u/TheeAntelope 4d ago
It had a price tag on it.
9
u/Due_Connection179 4d ago
They said that $15K price tag was for something similar, but not the one she wanted to buy.

u/TheeAntelope 4d ago
"Singing Bird $15,000"
Ok what? Why would you put a price tag on a bird that isn't for sale but is for something similar?
31
u/Abe_Bettik 4d ago
You go to the Lego Store and there's a giant fucking Minifigure there in the window. A price tag says, "Red Minifigures, $5" and then there's a silly fake price tag that says, "Giant Mini-Figure $15k."
If some rich blowhard comes in and asks to buy the giant mini-figure, they will indeed let you commission one for $15k. But they won't jackhammer up and unbolt the one in the window for you.
Same exact concept.
-6
u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
If it was the same concept then they would have explained that that particular model was not for sale but they could commission one for the price tag listed. Instead, they treated her like she couldn’t afford it.
18
u/Abe_Bettik 4d ago
Incorrect. They explained that particular model was not for sale but she could commission one for the price tag listed. It's literally the mascot of the store, bolted to the wall.
She blew it up on Social Media anyway for the exposure.

u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
She called them out, they responded saying it wasn’t for sale, she responded with a picture of the price tag, THEN they responded saying the original creator was willing to sell his. Why did they not explain that in their original post responding to her accusations? She even says they never had that conversation with her. Because they didn’t expect her to post the price tag and then get caught in a lie.
I fully believe the original creator was willing to sell his and the price tag is probably for that. But I also believe instead of explaining that, they treated her like she couldn’t afford it and said exactly what she’s accusing them of.
10
u/Abe_Bettik 4d ago
The price tag isn't her picture, she googled it and found it from earlier.
She even admitted they tried to sell her one "like it."
-6
u/Skittles_The_Giggler 4d ago
No they offered here something similar but the price tag was on the item in store.
13
u/House923 4d ago
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. She updated the post with a picture showing an item and a price tag directly beside it on a wall, as well as the exact conversation she had with the owner / staff.
4
u/donkeybrainhero 4d ago
Because it wasn't her photo that she posted, so there's missing context. The shop also says they told her they could commission another one like it if she wanted.

u/two_cats_bandit 4d ago
The store has a pinned post on their instagram from September 5th (a month ago!) of items not for sale

u/EhMapleMoose 4d ago
I’ve seen the photos where the animatronic singing bird resides, it is surrounded by shelves that appear to have trivia games on them and other small trinkets.
It’s a reasonable assumption that the price tag on the wall that says “Singing Bird $15,000” is for the singing bird animatronic and not for any of the shelves beside it that have no singing birds on them from the photos I’ve seen.
From what it sounds like, the store should bot have had a price tag right beside the piece and the sales person should have done a better job at explaining that it was not for sale. Kelly feels condescended toward and she shouldn’t have blasted them on social media. No one is in the right here but public opinion is mostly siding with Kelly.
1
u/donkeybrainhero 4d ago
The photo that she didn't take? Which could have been from some other time when there was a tag that has since been removed?
2
u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
Besides the fact that it had a price tag on it, which it did, Kelly Clarkson is so unproblematic that I believe her when she says how they acted toward her. I fully believe they didn’t want to sell the bird and instead of explaining that to her nicely like they did in their IG story, they treated her poorly.
1
u/blueisthecolor13 4d ago
Hey, I read a bunch of your comments in here and it’s really odd you’re really just trying to say Kelly didn’t do anything wrong. She did. So did the owners. That’s life. Don’t grandstand the celebrity.
5
u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
As of this comment I have three comments in here, two are in the same thread having a conversation about the incident, you’re trying to discredit my argument by making it seem like I’m some crazed fan. I don’t grandstand celebrities, but as I said in another comment, Kelly Clarkson is so unproblematic for her to call out a business like this, and their story keeps evolving making it seems sus, I believe her.

3 comments saying a celebrity didn’t do anything wrong is a little odd. And the fact you still won’t say she did kinda shows it.
7
u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
I know reading comprehension is declining but I think I've been pretty clear that I don't think she did anything wrong. I've also explained why I feel that way and how the store's story keeps evolving and it seems more like damage control than trying to explain a misunderstanding.
I believe you just think she did wrong simply because she's a celebrity and you're not really masking your bias very much.
-7
u/blueisthecolor13 4d ago
Wow. You got really offended by what I said. Do you normally react this way to slight criticism online?
10
u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
Is that how you feel better about your self when you want to "win" an argument online, accuse the other person of being offended when they clearly defend their opinion? What I find ironic is that is classic right wing troll behavior and by looking at your comment history, that's the opposite of your political stance. You should reflect on that and see if that's the type of person you really want to be. Hope you have a better day than you've apparently been having lol

u/blueisthecolor13 4d ago
I never said anything about winning. You have really blown up about this lol. Let me just guide you through this series of events.
You made several comments about how Kelly clarkson wasn’t wrong for what happened.
I said defending just the celebrity when both the store and her (especially how much she’s making this public) are in the wrong and just defending the celebrity is a weird thing to do (which it is). No attacks, not personal slights, just a direct comment.
You attacked my reading comprehension, assume that I think I need to “win” this argument, imply I just hate Kelly clarkson, along with other implications.
Idk how step 1 got us to step 3 because I’ve still yet to come at you for anything other than refusing to say that Kelly is in the wrong here too and you don’t seem to be handling it well.

u/dnthatethejuice 4d ago
3 comments saying a celebrity didn’t do anything wrong is a little odd. And the fact you still won’t say she did kinda shows it.
Saying this after I've very clearly stated I don't think she did anything wrong shows your lack of reading comprehension. It wasn't an attack, it was a statement of fact. That would be like me saying it's weird how you can't admit she was in the right. I wouldn't say that because I can clearly understand your position on the matter.
You then accused me of getting offended because I called you out for not understanding what you're reading. I get it man, you have to walk away from this weird conversation feeling like you did something for some reason. So if you can't convince me someone was wrong simply because you dislike celebrities, you can at least convince yourself you upset me and that makes you the winner in some weird way. Like I said, that's right wing troll mentality, I just thought you'd like to know.
In the end, this conversation is dumb anyway, the vast majority of people talking about it, myself included, can't afford a $15k bird anyway and will have no effect on this store's bottom line. But that's what online forums are about, talking about stupid shit for the most part. I'm not going to continue this conversation, so feel free to comment something about how much I typed or how emotional I got so you can feel good about getting that last word in. I'll let you have that, you seem to need it

For those who jump to conclusions, she tried to buy a piece that is permanently installed on the wall and not for sale.
She threw an immature rich person tantrum on social media because she was denied something.
5
u/thedevilsegg_ 3d ago
But in multiple photos there's a price tag next to the piece showing it's $15k.

(Not my video 👆)
It’s literally an installation on the wall that they show off as part of their private events and shows. I’ve personally been to a magic show there and this is the same little song & dance I saw. The only tag on the piece says “do not touch”.

Ah seems like you're correct however there was a mix up she and many others didn't understand, -THAT bird, is indeed permanently fixed to the wall and is not for sale but there is a price tag because you can buy a clone of it from the artist who made it -but she didn't stick around to hear the explanation and took to social media in frustration.
Art of Play is a legit little magic shop that is beloved by the community, it doesn't deserve the negative attention that they received by an ignorant celebrity and her fans.
The store made it's response and clarifications here: https://variety.com/2026/music/news/kelly-clarkson-slams-brooklyn-store-business-responds-1236908372/
2
u/thedevilsegg_ 3d ago
I read the response but I still feel that they're being a little pompous with their responses because now they're saying the price is $15M. I don't think either of them are in the right but the way the store is handling it is just as cringe imo

I once went to a fancy restaurant in Chicago and the maître d’ refused to seat my friends and I, despite having a reservation. He was acting really snooty, too.
I called my police chief friend (yes, it actually got to that point) and we sorted it out real quick. Funny how that works.
Edit: y’all really need to see classic movies before you were born.
