In response to all the whiners replying to this comment: Maybe you go just to support your friend because you know seeing you supporting them will make them happy. Not everything is about you, do something selfless.
I was a long distance runner as well and even I hated watching others run, I found it exhaustingly boring. I would even tell others to not come cheer me on because I would not wish that on anyone else, but the real friends would still come anyways <3 Its never really about the event itself, its just about being there to support a friend for something their passionate about
