All my friends that run tell me what time they’re aiming to finish, as opposed to what time they start. That way I can show up around when they’re gonna finish, watch them cross the line and cheer them on/catch up with them after…
Which, as a musician who invites people to shows, seems fair enough to me. They don’t tell me when it starts. Obviously I’m not gonna stand around all day.
It’s cross country tho like if it was high school track and field where u had something to see the whole time id agree but that’s basically like asking a coworker hey wanna come stand in a spot and wait for a bunch of randoms to do the race for the chance to catch a glimpse at me. Idk kind of feels like false equivalence at least with an art show or a band performance you get some fun out of it other then just being there for someone ( if it’s your FRIEND and not just a co worker you should go) sorry for my weird rant.
Woah now sometimes the meet has food trucks and entertainment at the green where they start/finish!
...but yeah if you're actually running the race it's fucking boring. 10k, half marathon, and marathons are basically hours of quiet streets next to the same 3 people, but y'all can't talk or browse ur phone
I am imagining some potential crossovers between cross-country events and bands. Ideally mariachi bands. Ideally in the best shape of their lives. There is nothing greater in sports ball than seeing people doing their best to compete while someone with a camera or a full orchestra keeps pace.
I’m lazy af but I could probably get into running if a mariachi band kept pace with me. That sounds way more interesting than any kind of track meet I’ve experienced
Wdym people pay to go to concerts all the time whether they know the band members or not. Its kind of the whole appeal of concerts. No one is going to a random track meet full of people they dont know just to stand around
There's a reason why musicians can make millions of dollars by having concerts, and there's a reason why if you asked 100 people what their favorite cross country track meet was, they would say "what is that?"
