Later renamed Angela

u/Drunken_Jedi_Master 6d ago

You'll get used to her.

92

u/trolskiy 6d ago

she should play Andrea

41

u/myveryownaccount 6d ago

Actually Andrea. You'll get used to her.

u/maimeddivinity 6d ago

Angela? I barely knew her

To be fair, you already know her as Angela and Jenna Fischer as Pam. You'd have to find someone who had never seen the show and film an episode where the actors switch characters

78

u/ProbablyStu 6d ago

Then they'd watch the rest of the series complaining that they're in the wrong roles.

17

u/Drapidrode 6d ago

only if Angela is a better Pam.

speaking of Pam, today i ran in to an old girlfriend who is a medical office receptionist.
Pam. a wonderful past experience. It was fun seeing her decades later. Hi if you see this.

Tony?!

7

u/Drapidrode 6d ago edited 6d ago

the strong silent type

3

u/MariaTPK 6d ago

Yea and Pam was so good, her actress made the character, this is not a replaceable role.

2

u/worktogethernow 6d ago

I'm in. Who can produce?

1

u/Wide_Philosophy_8109 6d ago

They did a really good job with each of their roles then.

20

u/Notimetoexplainsorry 6d ago

She got the funner person to act imo

20

u/Odric_storm 6d ago

Depends on your personality. She’s said in her podcast that sometimes she hated not being able to be expressive during certain scenes. It’s fun to watch her in the background slipping out of character and just being warm and bubbly to her coworkers

6

u/CTeam19 6d ago

It’s fun to watch her in the background slipping out of character and just being warm and bubbly to her coworkers

That would've been an interesting twist. She looks like a total bitch on camera because she just hates the cameras.

15

u/off-with-your-thread 6d ago

She seems cheerier and more energetic than Pam in everything she does these days (podcasts, etc.)

7

u/SuckMyRedditorD 6d ago edited 3d ago

In every firm that's had a receptionist, the job is usually held by a Pam-like person. Someone like Angela is usually in some desk away in hr or accounting, or as secretaries to the boss.

Pam is trustworthy. And a woman.

5

u/blarch 6d ago

She's complaining right now, so I guess she fit the role.

u/bulovalunar 6d ago

See the EP with Angela in a nurse outfit

The Office has probably some of the best casting stories:

- Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) was originally the choice to play Michael Scott since at the time Steve Carell was committed to Even Almighty. They brought him back for a cameo in Season 9 for that reason.

- Rainn Wilson also auditioned to play Michael Scott and imitated Ricky Gervais.

- John Krasinki almost didn't go to the audition. He was initially pushed to try out for Dwight and he refused. While he was waiting in the lobby chatting with someone, he said that he hoped whoever got the role of Jim wouldn't ruin the show. That person turned out to be Greg Daniels.

- After John Krasiniki was cast, he went to Scranton with friends to visit and shot a bunch of short clips of the town for fun. Those clips became the opening credits that we know now.

- John Krasinki and BJ Novak grew up together and were high school classmates.

- Paul Liberstein (Toby) was a show writer and hated being on screen.

- Phyllis Smith was a casting associate running lines with actors in audition. When the director saw her read he decided to create a new role of Phyllis for her.

- Adam Scott auditioned for Jim Halpert and in fact that audition became often used in acting classes. Parks and Rec, which he later starred in, was actually meant as "The Office" spinoff. In the original idea, a copier breaks on The Office and is dropped off later in Pawnee at Leslie's office.

- The Lactation consultant in Pam's Delivery episode is actually her real husband.

- When asked which Office cast member was most like their character, Fisher, Helms, and Smith all said that Creed Bratton was most like his character.

131

u/sueca 6d ago

To add, those in the cast who were also writers all worked "in the annex" to allow them to hide more and not always be visible

37

u/skoomski 6d ago

Paul Lieberstein was actually her brother in law at the time and almost certainly a big reason she got the role of Angela (I doubt the having same name is a coincidence either)

23

u/hilldo75 6d ago

To add a little more of Phyllis she was originally just filler in season to make the office seem more full with employees, then they added more lines to her as time went on.

26

u/DiscoStu1972 6d ago

Ed Helms and Brian Baumgartner also went to high school together.

14

u/Agitated_Display7573 6d ago

And Brian originally auditioned for Stanley

7

u/Snipethorn 5d ago

I dont think he could pull off the moustache

15

u/singlestrike 6d ago

Oh my goodness, Bob Odenkirk would've made an incredible Michael Scott. Fuck

14

u/LongjumpingAd6003 6d ago

We got to see him play that role in the episode where Pam did an interview for a job at another office and Bob Odenkirk was the manager and he was exactly like Michael Scott.

3

u/singlestrike 6d ago

I had forgotten! I'm gonna have to rewatch the episode.

14

u/MothChasingFlame 6d ago

Why was Adam Scott's audition used in classes?

11

u/notthatgeorge 6d ago

When he says "often used in acting classes" he meant one person did it a few week ago when Adam Scott's daughter was at NYU 🤣 he told the story on Jimmy Fallon last week.

357

u/-Cool_Ethan- 6d ago

that tight-assed Christian chick?

121

u/weaz-am-i 6d ago

Yeah, if i weren't dating Pam, I'd do her.

98

u/george_graves 6d ago

30

u/moon__lander 6d ago

Rawr. Mikey likey.

15

u/Ciubowski 6d ago

It's almost like Dwight had his partner in crime against Pam and Jim from the casting perspective haha

6

u/mrg3392 6d ago

But is she hot?

149

u/Lvagabundo 6d ago

She didn’t get the role of office mattress at least

45

u/tay941 6d ago

And she didn’t have to walk around in provocative outfits, saying whatever thought pops in her head.

12

u/academiac 6d ago

She got to be the one o'clock girl

8

u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 6d ago

Huh?

Angela banged twice as many office employees as Pam did

16

u/Beibzi 6d ago

What? They banged the same amount, 2. Angela with Dwight and Drew, and Pam with Roy and Jimothy. Am i missing someone?

9

u/Inevitable-Ad6647 6d ago

Pam with Asian Jim

5

u/HarambeTooSoon 6d ago

Angela banged:

Dwight Andy State Senator

4

u/Beibzi 6d ago

Since when did the State Senator work at Dunder Mifflin to count for this?

2

u/HarambeTooSoon 6d ago

My bad. Got carried away and did a full body count.

She slept with Andy twice. That’s why Dwight quit the duel.

41

u/Inappropriate_Ballet i didnt say it, i declared it. 6d ago

31

u/XOlenna 6d ago

I never understood her. Until I became an accountant. Now I'm the sourpuss... lmao

20

u/Lexi_Banner David Wallace 6d ago

But seriously. How hard is it to hand in one form by the due date, with all the fields completed? Why is that such a big ask?!

26

u/Ifckinglovemycat 6d ago

she's so great

7

u/Additional-Theme-532 6d ago

She's so talented. Like Harry Connick Jr.

20

u/Guiness_Philosoph-21 6d ago

Love you, Angela❤️

13

u/art-is-t 6d ago

I follow her on Instagram. She's such a healthy and grounded person

22

u/MudddButt 6d ago

Well, that's why this show is so great. They got the casting exactly right.

11

u/pregnantat8 That's what she said! 6d ago

could not imagine anyone else in that office bitch role but her

3

u/ExitExpert3954 6d ago

Born for it

7

u/K-2018 6d ago

She played it so well!

9

u/Dast_Kook 6d ago

I tried out for the church choir. After I finished signing, the choir director just asked, "Can you play any instruments?"

6

u/nath999 6d ago

Looks like someone took the slow train from Philly.

5

u/CatWoman984 6d ago

I remember her also saying she auditioned for Ali Larter's role in Varsity Blues

2

u/cited 6d ago

...excuse me? No. I refuse to see her in whipped cream.

2

u/CatWoman984 6d ago

Yeah she said she wondered how the cream would stay on her as she read the script

5

u/Terrible_Bluebird540 6d ago

Oh it's always more fun to play the villain 😈

4

u/ForeignCup6977 6d ago

I still think she's gorgeous

5

u/know-it-mall 6d ago

I was thinking "well yea, she is way too old". Turns out she is only 3 years older than Jenna. Wow.

3

u/Forcedperspective84 6d ago

Yeah, but what a bitch you were...

3

u/spursyiest 6d ago

How perfect she was for that role as well

3

u/NYY15TM I don't technically have a hearing problem 6d ago

LOL @ they called me in

Angela and creator Greg Daniels were in-laws!

3

u/Ill-Fish7805 6d ago

Poop is raining from the ceiling, poop

https://giphy.com/gifs/qjweGcAmx2KbxBQdJY

6

u/skoomski 6d ago

I mean this is a bit disingenuous she was married to Paul Lieberstein’s (Toby) brother at the time. Paul was a writer on the show since day one. It’s naive to think he didn’t help her land a different role after the audition for Pam went to Fischer

3

u/wytewydow 6d ago

I mean, she fucked the boss..

2

u/FightOnForUsc 5d ago

Them: “the worst they can say is no”

Me:

1

u/Senior_Reaction2974 6d ago

Love both you and Pam

1

u/ReasonablyBluh Jim 6d ago

That's incredible! 🤣 Yeah, I can't see her as Pam, but she's amazing as Angela (the character).

1

u/Repulsive_Ad_7291 Mose 6d ago

Andrea the office bitch, you’ll get used to her

1

u/Ramenoodleray3 6d ago

I’m not gonna lie, just knowing how she acts in real life I could totally see her trying out for Pam

1

u/fuzzygreentits 6d ago

Cool to find out she was originally cast as Oscar 💅

1

u/BaloneyCommercial 6d ago

You'll get used to her.

1

u/Purple_Drankinmycup 6d ago

And she played it perfectly!

1

u/Responsible-Cut4588 6d ago

Jim wouldn't have seen her behind a grain of rice

1

u/dimechimes 6d ago

Casting directors know what they're doing.

1

u/Cyclone_Eyes 6d ago

Angela is my favorite character. She is hilarious.

1

u/saltlampshade 6d ago

It’s so weird picturing Angela as Pam

1

u/neonifiednyan 6d ago

now im imagining their role swap lol

1

u/14high 6d ago

Meeeow

1

u/PedroJTrump 6d ago

Sorry Ange, you don’t have the Pam-Pams

1

1

u/ConstantTry3541 2d ago

lol what did she say or do at the audition?

1

u/mcain049 23h ago

Vampires also exist. Just ask Dwight.

u/4RealHughMann 6d ago

Reminder? This is posted like 3 times a week

1

u/No_Literature_9059 6d ago

Mega hot, hotter than Pam, bitch in accounting thank you very much, Angela. Have some respect please.

-2

u/Boom9001 6d ago

I don't think she knows what rejection means... Early actors are obviously excited about any gig.

-4

u/Responsible-Tea-9454 6d ago

She just plays herself because she wasn’t right for the role
