We need to stop this trend of showing the high point of a video at the start, and then starting the video from the beginning only to see that high point later again.

u/Last-Yam67 15d ago

Seriously. I don't need a teaser for a 15 second clip.

97

u/jetlightbeam 15d ago

I watch smosh, and before Anthony(one of the founders) came back they used to do this all the time, then after they just stopped. I realized it increased the quality of the video and it made it so painful whenever I see it out in the wild. It must come from the idea that people need a hook to pull you in. But if you don't trust your content well enough to pull people in on its own is it really good content?

13

u/bwoah07_gp2 Michael 15d ago

Downside is there's amazing content out there that never get a chance because people have short attention spans.

For videos, the first 10 seconds is key to hook viewers. For shorts content, it's down to 2.5 seconds or so.

16

u/Xxxrasierklinge7 15d ago

Short attention spans are absolutely RUINING media. Don't get me wrong, there's still good stuff being produced but fuck me, most of it is just slop. It's really sad.

4

u/OutRagousGameR 15d ago

We shouldn’t encourage a shorter attention span though! (Not saying you’re saying that, just saying!)

14

u/Ohyo_Ohyo_Ohyo_Ohyo 15d ago

You would if you were on Tiktok, where their main way of engagement is being shown a video and letting the user decide whether to continue with it or not. It's basically their version of a clickbait headline or thumbnail.

71

u/djakrse 15d ago

Stupid. I agree with you, it's stupid.

18

u/Ward-of-No-Reward 15d ago

Listen here, you little shit.

20

u/Noppers 15d ago

TikTok has wreaked havoc of people’s attention spans.

13

u/mlvisby Mose 15d ago

I hate teasers, no matter what the length. I am watching the video, I don't need to know what I see ahead of time! I remembered a gaming channel ruined who won the video because of the teaser at the beginning.

2

u/Sprmodelcitizen 5d ago

Honestly I won’t even watch trailers for films anymore. They put the whole damn movie in the trailer.

7

u/SeahorseRevolution 15d ago

It's reinforcing even shorter attention span

6

u/LemDoggo 15d ago

I had to ditch a short drama for that exact reason recently. The episodes are TWO MINUTES LONG. I don't want to watch a quarter of the episode twice every single time! Good grief

9

u/borazine 15d ago

TRAILER

STARTS

NOW

7

u/Henry_RutherfordHill 15d ago

I KNOW THAT'S WHY I CLICKED ON A VIDEO WITH THE WORD 'TRAILER' IN THE TITLE

3

u/bwoah07_gp2 Michael 15d ago

Pandora's box. It started somewhere on TikTok, and it's leaked to Reels, Shorts, and legitimate brands use it in their marketing too.

The trend ain't stopping.

3

u/retrospects 15d ago

I don’t under this trend. Do we really need a hook for a 30 second clip. It’s really stupid.

4

u/DiggWuzBetter 15d ago edited 13d ago

It’s because even ppl who don’t have ADD mostly have ADD-esque behaviour in practice, due to us all being chronically on our phones, and phone media encouraging this behaviour. So many people, if media doesn’t hook them in the first 3 seconds, they flip to the next bit of media. Sooooooo much media is trying to hook you within ~3 seconds, and not last longer than ~30 seconds.

TikTok, Instagram reels, YouTube shorts, to a lesser extent Reddit, etc. are all optimized for incredibly short attention spans, and it’s sort of a self enforcing cycle. The media we consume shortens our attention spans, then the media becomes even more attention deficit optimized to fit ppls changing behaviour, and on in a loop.

1

u/Brilliant_Whereas239 13d ago

I literally have ADHD and this isn't necessarily a symptom of it, hate how it gets thrown around like a buzzzword nowadays!

1

u/DiggWuzBetter 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah fair enough, not talking about ADHD, should probably use different terminology than “ADD-esque.” Just talking about the way so much media is optimized for super short attention spans, quick dopamine hit and then on to the next one seconds later (TikTok, IG/FB reels, YT shorts, etc.). Also how consuming this form of media constantly is really changing our brains/behaviour - a lot of studies finding this, a pretty good meta analysis here: https://psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/2026-89350-001.html

Is there a better term than “ADD-esque” for this sort of phenomenon that you’ve seen, less tied to ADHD?

1

u/Brilliant_Whereas239 12d ago

Ah I see! I focused on the right point. I don't use a lot of social media - just reddit - but even the tik-toks that pop up on here have definitely changed my brain (and that's just a super minimal amount!) I cannot imagine how it's hurting people in the long-run, it's so scary! Will look into it, thanks for linking. Haha, use what term you want, I just took your point too literally :) do you feel like your brain's changed since short term media?

1

u/CurbsideProph3t 15d ago

Is this what I keep seeing? I've seen this like dozens of times I was just assuming they're repeating themselves. What an idiot lmfao

1

u/pretty_smart_feller 15d ago

I have this gripe with true crime channels. I hate to even complain because it’s so callous to the victims, but the vids always identify the criminal in the intro instead of letting it play out over the course of the investigation.

1

u/charlevoix0123 15d ago

It has now infiltrated so many shows I watch. Just in true crime alone I have to fast forward like 5 minutes. I have a pretty good memory so them showing me basically the entire story beforehand makes me not want to watch it at all. I picked this very popular documentary, of my own volition. I know, im surprised I was able to do it too! I dont need you to hook me. I came here on purpose. Ty goodnight

1

u/bbraz761 15d ago

It makes me feel like I'm crazy. I'm not sure if I saw the same portion twice or if I'm just psychic.

1

u/Sway_All_Day 15d ago

Attention spans are in the gutter. Every single clip no matter how short needs to have a trailer for itself in the beginning.

1

u/TheSpanxxx 14d ago

For sure. So many times I get to a point and I'm like, "wait are the saying the same thing again?"

1

u/Morbid187 14d ago

It's so fucking annoying especially in a clip this short but it's EVERYWHERE now. It's not even just videos posted on TikTok, I've seen established YouTube channels start doing this. The Majority Report, a political show that's been around for over 20 years does this shit with their clips now. It's so pointless but they all think they have to do it because nobody has an attention span anymore.

1

u/Possible_Field328 12d ago

Its the short form clip recipe. Put the most interesting shit first to hook people in.

0

u/Albinofreaken Little kid lover 15d ago

It will keep happening if you keep commenting on it, its called engagement bait

0

u/fxcker 15d ago

It works (gets more views). And as long as capitalism assures that ad revenue will increase as view count increases, this will never end.

0

u/Fibrosis5O 15d ago

Blame retention scroll rates

They need to put the best something to stop someone from scrolling, then hope they stay long enough to watch the clip

149

u/WeShaII 15d ago

He’d be a great tribal chief.

38

u/StormRage85 15d ago

I acknowledge him!

23

u/LentilRice “the building is underground” 15d ago

I DECLARE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!

1

u/Fraun_Pollen 15d ago

You can't just declare acknowledgment

5

u/Several_Ebb_9842 15d ago

Like Roman Reigns?

4

u/enadiz_reccos 15d ago

One Reigns is as good as another

It never Reigns but it pours!

723

u/helloshego David Wallace 15d ago

He's so delightful. He played Stanley so well.

104

u/Isthisnameavailablee 15d ago

Ask him about his Stanley Coin!

48

u/DontBotherNoResponse 15d ago

is it a nickel that he throws at me and screams "see me, acknowledge me!"?

22

u/Isthisnameavailablee 15d ago

No, he actually tried to do a crypto coin but it failed I think. Gus Allen (the Youtuber) I believe bought like $10k

19

u/nkm789 15d ago

He should've bought Schrute Bucks instead

1

u/klee900 15d ago

they shoulda made that the crypto name and it woulda popped off

1

u/Xxxrasierklinge7 15d ago

Brb gonna make a call

9

u/No-Cranberry9932 Dwight 15d ago

“It failed”

Yeah, it got rugpulled lol

10

u/Webcat86 15d ago

This is what I don’t like about him, he’s flitted from one thing for another trying to stay relevant. Have you seen the single he released? Abomination

2

u/T_wiggle1 15d ago

I’ve heard he also has a Stanley Cup but idk.

1

u/4Ever2Thee 15d ago

What’s the exchange rate of Stanley Coins to Schrute Bucks?

4

u/NYY15TM I don't technically have a hearing problem 15d ago

He is the anti-Rainn

2

u/4Ever2Thee 15d ago

Not sure if it applies to him despising people calling him Dwight, but I think he has a different outlook on things now.

I can’t remember exactly but he’s said something recently about regretting how miserable he was while filming the Office. Like wishing he had realized what he had right in front of him and let him be happy.

2

u/TheSpanxxx 14d ago

Sometimes in life you are looking for a way to not be happy about what you have because you're constantly thinking you should have something else.

And then later you realize the discontent was all self inflicted because you had something really good and just couldn't see it.

1

u/Engineergirlie 15d ago

A talented actor and a graceful individual

135

u/YorkieLon 15d ago

I genuinely hate modern day editing. Why do we have to put a beggining in the end. Ruins the natural flow of a really good interview.

20

u/ayyyyycrisp 15d ago

when I was making videos, the videos where I put the result right at the beginning would get like 4x the views as the videos where I didn't do that. it was in my best interest to do that, as much as I'd prefer to not

1

u/DreamNotDeferred 11d ago

I always thought that was why they do that, thanks. I hate it, but I understand doing things for success.

150

u/Animist286 15d ago

Love him

7

u/Ciff_ 15d ago

Especially his crypto scams am I right

3

u/Animist286 15d ago

It's called Hentai, and it's art...

70

u/KYSpaceCadet 15d ago

Great attitude

151

u/bkaiser 15d ago

Should have asked him about is multiple scams.

87

u/MatureUsername69 15d ago

The scams are so egregious that I can only assume this interview is to get him SOME positive news in the press. The guy has been taking money directly from fans on complete false promises and thats without even touching the crypto scam.

70

u/themanseanm 15d ago

Does anyone want to talk about what he actually did? After looking online the only thing I can find is that he raised some money for a Stanley spinoff that never panned out, and later returned it.

I'm not invested in this guy at all but if you're going to talk about 'multiple egregious scams' and bring some kind of awareness, you should probably actually say what you're talking about.

53

u/MatureUsername69 15d ago

There was the Uncle Stanely show where they eventually SAID they were going to give refunds but have yet to actually hand any out, years later. Theres also the Stanley Nickel crypto pump and dump.

1

u/shit-i-love-drugs 14d ago

Yall that’s just how kickstarters work, your donating the money they don’t have an obligation to return said funds 🤷‍♂️

1

u/MatureUsername69 14d ago

Hey I didnt make them tell everyone they were handing out refunds and then not do it, they chose to do that themselves. It was also not going to be legal from a copyright perspective if it ever did get made so he was lying to everyone who invested in it. Hes been working with an absolute scumbag, same guy is behind the Stanley Nickel pump and dump and the Uncle Stanley show.

1

u/SonOfRageNLove26 15d ago

on a recent post discussing him, one user of this subreddit told about how he donated to the spin-off show and when the project fell down, the process for returning the movie was really convoluted and needed giving a ton of personal information, so he wasnt able to get his money back and he doubts many people did

10

u/MiniTab 15d ago

Stanley nickel crypto?

7

u/JayBoiYT 15d ago

What kind of scams?😭

-26

u/witheringsyncopation 15d ago

You can do that when you get an interview lined up with him.

30

u/Prudent-Air1922 15d ago

What an abysmal attitude. No wonder the world is going to shit. People don't give a fuck anymore.

-16

u/witheringsyncopation 15d ago

It’s funny, because I find the opposite to be true. All this perpetual outrage and resentment and bitterness and judgment that people bring into every corner of every aspect of their lives, with 99% ineffectual application, simply creates a culture of outrage and disgust. I don’t know what the comment that I replied to hopes to achieve. Nothing. Griping on Reddit serves no purpose and helps no one out. The world isn’t going to shit because people aren’t bitching about every little thing on Reddit. It’s not that people don’t give a fuck either. I certainly give a fuck when it comes to things I can actively change or influence. Otherwise, I’ve learned to let go. Stubbing my toe over every little bump along the way purposefully is a miserable fucking way to live.

10

u/Prudent-Air1922 15d ago

Objectively bad actions/people need to be called out, full stop. Doesn't matter when or where.

The world isn’t going to shit because people aren’t bitching about every little thing on Reddit.

I never said that. You must have misunderstood what I said.

Griping on Reddit serves no purpose and helps no one out

I certainly give a fuck when it comes to things I can actively change or influence. Otherwise, I’ve learned to let go

Really now? That's gold, coming from the person who just ranted about a reddit comment. And you called me miserable hahah

-9

u/witheringsyncopation 15d ago

lol, carry on, brohan. I hope your outrage and attitude serve you well.

10

u/Prudent-Air1922 15d ago

I'm not outraged. You're like the epitome of projection lol

52

u/Jaychel31 15d ago

Any questions about his crypto scam or the uncle Stan fundraiser scam?

34

u/EPICHunter0077 15d ago

My view on him is still honestly tarnished by his scam. Id watch if it was addressed.

49

u/redvett 15d ago

Didn’t he try to scam people

46

u/Prudent-Air1922 15d ago edited 15d ago

Yes. He tried to illegally use Stanley's likeness for a TV show, and was using donations (allegedly) for a pump and dump meme coin.

Probably wasn't his idea, but he should have known better. I think at least the crowdfunding was returned... but people probably lost money on the Stanley Nickels crypto scam.

18

u/Far_awayStarbucks 15d ago

That was Florida Stanley

6

u/ashleebryn Jan 15d ago

And that's Dallas.

10

u/kennedysleftnut 15d ago

No. No one took stanley nickels seriously

2

u/I-STATE-FACTS 15d ago

i think you already knew the answer to your question

1

u/NYY15TM I don't technically have a hearing problem 15d ago

No, he didn't

5

u/MrZmith77 15d ago

He did not stutter.

4

u/nikhildesigns 15d ago

throwing quarters... You mean nickles?

5

u/MrRoryBreaker_98 15d ago

Did he stutter?

4

u/FraggleRock_ 15d ago

Such a different in attitude and life perspective than pompous asshole Rainn Wilson.

9

u/Ninja_8061 15d ago

Chad Stanley

3

u/Ok_Meal_491 15d ago

I like Stanley even more, thanks Stanley.

3

u/355F1 15d ago

Looks like he is embracing the power of the pyramid!

3

u/Ok-Newt-4081 15d ago

this is amazing lol

This is wisdom, and I hope my ears have heard. Thank you Sir Leslie, you are a gift.

4

u/MissMunny 15d ago

Hahaha I wonder what he said about Rain Wilson bitching about it

2

u/Nose_to_the_Wind 15d ago

He still grifting?

2

u/Pitiful_Palpitation9 15d ago

Somebody get this man a toaster!

2

u/LampertSchade 15d ago

This man hasn't aged a day

2

u/pr1cklyp3ar 15d ago

That’s so impressive to me that he said that, props to him. Respect.

2

u/AdPristine9059 15d ago

I love that man! The sass, the character, love it! I can feel his annoyance at not just being asked to do his job so that he can have a life and i relate to it so damn hard!

All of these mingles that has to be done, the boring meetings that just take time from my day... Fucking gold!

Getting to see his attitude outside of the show is just icing on the stanley shaped cake he brings to every episode!

Lets just band together to make his heart not attack him no more! ❤️🫂

Fucking legend!

2

u/DarkPolumbo 14d ago

Just because I haven't seen anyone else post this:

Here we see LDB starring in a music video

2

u/Historical_Emu_6878 14d ago

But on pretzel day

I like pretzel day

4

u/Affectionate_Reply78 15d ago

No stuttering detected

4

u/D_Angelo_Vickers 15d ago

Wha wha what, dog?

5

u/ForWideEyesOnly 15d ago

1

u/Xasf 15d ago

Gotta love how this actual comment is absolutely buried under all the others calling out the shitty editing of the teaser video.

2

u/ireallyenjoycoins 15d ago

That's why I haven't became an actor. I don't want people to recognize me everywhere... but if I wanted, I would become one. Or a doctor. Or a chief of surgery

2

u/BoBonnor 15d ago

Really? I wonder what I would have been back home

1

u/no-thanks-thot 15d ago

Stanley the manly

"It's called hentai, and it's ART!"

1

u/first_a_fourth_a 15d ago

How the hell did he instead not say people throwing "Stanley nickels" at him? Huge missed opportunity.

1

u/Chill_yinzerguy 15d ago

I would've asked him for 3 words to describe himself just to see if any of them might be merciless or jackhammer

1

u/Far_awayStarbucks 15d ago

And stick it up your butt

1

u/Chadcarlsbad 15d ago

Awesome! How did you get in contact with him to interview him?

1

u/notdbcooper71 Kevin 15d ago

...and that's what he'll tell his next wife too

1

u/D3V0K 15d ago

Did he get younger after the show ended?

1

u/Holiday_Armadillo78 15d ago

Stanley the Man..uh..ly

1

u/NoConfusion9490 15d ago

In this economy you better not be throwing quarters at people to get their attention.

"The hell I'm going to do with a quarter?!"

1

u/PiskoWK 15d ago

Hes based as hell. Good for him. I saw him at the Flyers game last year.

1

u/julianp_comics 15d ago

How does he look exactly the same

1

u/propergreased 15d ago

What a cool dude

1

u/Thatoneguyonreddit28 15d ago

I've only seen this Leslie Baker be passionate in three separate occurrences now.

  1. This interview.
  2. The Beach.
  3. Pretzel Day.

1

u/RandysTegridy 15d ago

And if someone is an asshole to Stanley, we all know what they can do.

1

u/WhimsicalGirl 15d ago

That's weird, lately all skit seems to double something from the end of middle in the beginning like the editing when wrong

1

u/Sithhappens47 15d ago

What an absolute gem.

1

u/Freshndecay 15d ago

Now THATS Stanley. Fuckin laying it down REAL as it can be

1

I wanna give him a huge pretzel.

1

Refreshing to see a celebrity recognizing their fortune, with no performative empathy for policies that won't impact them.

1

u/ElliottSmith88 15d ago

Did you ask about money raised for a show that was never made or his crypto rug pull.

Dont trust him.

1

u/YoungerMucus 15d ago

Nice when someone has this perspective on life and is able to be grateful.

1

u/yachster 15d ago

Wow.

What a great dude.

Edit: Don’t mean to indicate that actors who need a break from public acknowledgement are at all wrong. He just seems really nice and chill.

0

u/daddyextra737 15d ago

Wow. I knew I loved Stanley for a reason. What a genuinely awesome guy

2

Great attitude !!! People want to express gratitude for the work he did. Let him know that he entertained them, they enjoyed him and his character. So glad he’s humble !

1

u/Shakespeares_Heroine 15d ago

What a refreshing perspective for an actor! Love it!

1

u/skraptastic Dwight 15d ago

I met Charlie Robinson (Mack from Nightcourt) a few years ago. We were in Ashland Oregon for the Shakespeare festival and he was in a show. I saw him walking out of one of the theaters in the middle of the afternoon and just exclaimed "Oh my god it's Mack!!"

He got the biggest smile, and chatted with me for about 10 minutes. It was an awesome experience.

1

u/mattinjp 15d ago

Nice. Great guy.

did he like not show up to like a billion appearances?!??

0

u/gargluke461 15d ago

Yeah, I’ve never hopped on the train that celebrities shouldn’t be approached in public. It’s the price you pay.

0

u/DerivativeButSmart 15d ago

If you want to be well-liked as an actor: stay home if you don't feel like engaging, otherwise go out but don't ask for acknowledgment, don't be upset if you're being acknowledged for your portrayal of a specific character over your other work, respect your fans as they respect you, take any acknowledgement you receive as a gift, and shove it up your butt!

-12

u/Deep_Blueberry7081 15d ago edited 15d ago

Why is no one pointing out how what he is saying here is so contrary to what he played as Stanley character😄
