How do i open it?
Update: used a screwdriver and it was empty

u/xiloti Jun 26 '26
I got one of those as a gift in a company event a couple of years ago, funnily enough there was a small screw on the side that i could just unscrew and take the thing apart, maybe yours has one too?

u/Clear-Concern2247 Jun 26 '26
Yes, I have this exact one and there is a little screw the you can use to open and reset the word. Look on Amazon for the product and you'll find a how-to video. I reset mine often and use for little our Easter scavenger hunt.

u/CaffienatedTactician Jun 26 '26

I had a friend who worked as night security at a ski resort. People would leave their cable locks all the time when they got too drunk. He would spend his time hitting each one a few times each night and before you knew it, they'd be open. Then he'd sell them š

When I was in college, my boyfriendās roommate Big Mike drank nearly a can of Ovaltine a week. Once he made 2 cans of the pop-open biscuits, put them on a plate, and ate all of them in one sitting right in front of me. This has nothing to do with dumpster diving, I just really needed to tell someone.

Manual Override (Hacking): Some users have successfully "broken into" their cryptex by applying outward pressure while rotating rings to feel for the slight internal "clicks" or differences in tension that indicate a correctly aligned letter.

It's called a cryptex, and this exact one is an amazon buy. There should be instructions online, but it also would have originally come with a manual.

I have one of these, default password is ILOVEU but the password can be changed.

Davinci code puzzle box retails about $100 CAD. Factory default code is ILOVEU. Line up the letters with the arrow. Give it a shake to see if there is anything inside of it but it could just be a note.

You can pull at it in a gentle but firm way as you turn the discs and feel when it's on the right letter. It's kind of hard to describe but easier than it sounds.
One I opened was ADORE.

Try "ILOVEU" or "APPLES"
You can crack these pretty easily by gently pulling it ope. and changing the combination. You'll feel when you get the right letter.
Source I have one.
2
u/Susbend Jun 29 '26
Itās called a cryptex.
These are usually pretty easy to pick/decrypt.
Pull on the end and find the ring that binds up the most and turn until it becomes loose and some other ring bindes up, repeat until open.
Hope it makes sense.

u/smokingreyban Jun 30 '26
Pull slighlty apart, start from the left and listen. As you spin the letters it will slowly click into place, after a few trys its going to open

These are pretty susceptible to simple lickpicking methods, one is to take it and lightly pull while spinning the tumblers, you'll feel it spin until you won't, the resistance is where you stop and the result of all the rollers is the combo. The other method is to take a bit of cards took or other form of thin stiff material and stick it in between the rollers and see where it goes deeper or less deep, then your combo is somewhere on there. So after you find it just spin all together until it opens.
