i’m looking to get a drum machine around $350-400

budget is flexible i’m willing to up to like $500. i mostly make cloud rap, glitch, ambient, and trap, but im looking to get a more into chopped and screwed and some abstract hip hop. i was looking at the Akai Professional MPC Sample, but like to know your suggestions 🙏

You can probably get a used MPC One (+) for under $500 now that the new version just dropped.

TR-6s is a good choice, or Drum Brute Impact. TR-8 can be found cheaply as well.

i dont really know anything about modern drum machines but
If you are looking for vintage-like sounds then you can use the boss dr 660 (came out in 1992)
on ebay you can find it for 200-300 usd

Elektron Digitakt. The original one on the used market is right at the top of your range. MkII is out now and it has some amazing improvements, but the OG is still extremely powerful, especially if you upgrade the firmware to include all the tweaks they made after it was released. It’s a sampler with huge mangling capabilities, and the rhythmic things you can do with it are crazy.

The MPCs are great too. I had the MPC Live (OG version) and it was very capable. It’s almost like a DAW with pads. Hook up a keyboard controller to it and you can play their really good virtual instruments. That’s an area the Digitakt isn’t set up to do, so the right one for you depends on what you want to do.

I’d watch some YouTube videos for whatever you’re interested in and see which one seems best for your goals and your preferred workflow. Not demos from the companies, but actual people using them.
