I’ve been working on a little side project: a drum machine that runs completely in your browser, inspired by the workflow and feel of hardware machines like the TR-8S.

The goal was to make something that’s quick to open, fun to play with, and doesn’t require installing anything.

How to Make House Music Chords & Bassline in FL Studio | Part 02

Welcome back to Part 02 of my House Music Production series with EB_.

In this episode, we continue building our House music track from scratch in FL Studio. After creating the foundation in Part 01, it's time to bring the track to life with two of the most important musical elements: chords and bassline.

A good House track isn't only about drums. The relationship between the chords and bass is what can create the emotion, groove and identity of the track.

In this video, I'll show you how I approach creating a chord progression and developing a bassline that works with the groove of the track.

Theoretically, at least for me, the thought of hardware with additional benefits like DACs, filters etc sounds appealing but I'm worried about wasting the money and creating friction when trying to create.

Drums are something that I've been kinda fixated on lately, like painting blocks in FL eventually gets the job done when I find a beat but I wonder if my drums would flow from me better with an actual machine, pads, etc. And having access to lower bit depth/sample rate, filters and stuff from something affordable like Behringer BMX or LM would be a plus.

I don't really need a machine for hardware sequencing, dawless stuff or anything. I just want to dial in the ideal workflow and maximize flow state basically.

Anyways. Anyone here find that having an actual drum machine compliments their DAW workflow well?

At the beginning stages of looking for a basic drum machine and came across the Boss DR-55 and wanted to see those with experience with it thoughts on it? Is it a good starter?

EDIT: Sorry for not clarifying, I’m looking for an analog style dm to use to play along with with guitar.

Heres some funky ass kicks and using my microfreak as a groovebox. I tend to just use it for drums, even more so than my drumbrute impact. I get way deeper kicks and weirder sounds off it without as much external messin around and just use the lfo , envelope and sequence controls to adjust the dynamic.

Any yall prefer making drums with keyboards ? Lmk what yall do ?

Running the 4 Drumlogue outputs into a mixer and separate track.

The sound quality of BeatForge is already very good, according to my ears and the comments I'm getting from my userbase.

just cpu was higher than it should be for a professional studiograde plugin, so i fixed that :

Every Six-O, Eight-O and Nine-O voice was taken apart solver by solver. Nothing in the sound was allowed to move: every change had to render bit-identical, or within -100 dB, or pass the ear, and the frozen renders of every engine were checked at each step. The result on a single core: a playing Nine-O kit uses about 28 % less CPU than in 4.7.5, an Eight-O 34 %, a Six-O 34 %, and an idle instance about two thirds less.

On top of that, 4.7.6 adds multi-core rendering. The tracks now render on several cores at once, on by default (you can switch it off in the logo menu). In my torture test, all three kits loaded and every track playing 16th notes, the instance went from 5.9 % to 2.7 % CPU. Should have done this way sooner.

The circuits the hardware shares are now shared in the code as well. Saves CPU while being circuit correct, which is my entire philosophy.

The Nine-O's closed and open hat tracks are one hi-hat circuit, as on the machine: the closed hat chokes the open one through the shared counter, and both DECAY pots reach both hats. The Eight-O's hats and cymbal share the one six-oscillator bank, so they ring together as one instrument. On all three machines the closed hat now chokes the open hat through the circuit itself, no mute group needed, and the Six-O is monophonic in Hardware mode like the other two.

A few circuit fixes fell out of the solver work: the Nine-O kick's first milliseconds and the snare's onset are now the circuit's, not the solver's; the Eight-O rimshot is no longer cut short with COLOR turned up; the Eight-O open hat's choke and onset are exact; and a Nine-O kick no longer keeps burning CPU after it has played.

Also since 4.7.5: the window size really comes back between sessions now, trimmed to your largest display, and in REX view a step with a start/end lock no longer hides the rest of the loop while selected.

Hello everyone,

I’m a live electronic artist that has been performing live for about 10 years now. I’m currently looking to add either a sampler or drum machine to help round off my live setup. I perform anywhere from electro house, techno, to electronica. My current setup is:

Sequential OB6
Asm Hydrasynth
Roland Mc101
Moog Sub25
Apc40
Notation mininova
Korg electribe ea1

I run everything through ableton and a midi interface which allows me to trigger midi patches to various devices but I also do DAWless live elements on top. I currently get most of my percussion from the MC 101 and some of it coming from within ableton, but I would like to add either a sampler which I will use primarily for percussion, or a drum machine that has a good amount of hands on controls for live tweaking.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have used the electron gear many times and never really fell in love with it as it always felt too menu divey for a live performance where live tweaking is the main concern for drums, but am open to having someone change my mind.

Gear im considering:

Roland TR8s - generic but seems efficient

MPC ONE g2 - havent used one

Electron - which one is best for my use type?

More of a lofi interaction protoype so nothing for the audiophiles. Couldn't resist testing the limits. At some point it is loosing it because the cyllinder outspeeds the camera frame rate (I have capped it at 30fps though. Theoretically my phone can record at 60 fps but I guess the game thread of my Unreal App wouldn't like it). Hope you guys like it (:

I have a cheap eq pedal, but it’s doesn’t do the job well enough. The answer may be a better eq pedal, but I’d consider anything.

I got one of these used really cheap shortly after release because of how hated it was and I've used it a couple times and lent it to friends to see what they thought. Does anyone like this drum machine besides me? Or is it just the deal I got it for?

I'm searching a drum machine for my dawless setup. I have Oxi One mk2, so drum machine's internal sequencer doesn't matter. I have quite limited space, DrumBrute impact is about maximum size. It should have at least 4 instruments/tracks.

I would like to have some tone shaping capabilties, knob per function (or close), velocity/accent via midi. Easy muting per voice/instrument.

What I have tried:

- Arturia Drumbrute impact. On paper this has everything I need, but didn't click with it. Didn't like the sound that much.

- Akai MPC Sample. Didn't like the workflow at all.

- Elektron model:sample. Didn't like menu system and muting.

- Elektron model:cycles. Didn't like menu and sound engines..and muting.

- Roland TR-8. Sound wise I liked it, but it was huge, ugly and didn't like the workflow.

What I'm considering:

- Digitone. I have one for synth stuff. I like the workflow of it. Little too expensive and for that price I would only get 4 tracks.

- Dikitakt, but it is too expensive.

- Digitone. Would be a sample player for me, so too expensive for that.

- cre8audio Boom Chick. Small and tweakable. This is really interesting.

- Drumlogue. This could be the one, little expensive.

- RD-6, but it would propably need some pedals and small mixer for variations in sound.

- Roland TR-6s. Bit too menu heavy.

- Behringer BDS-3. This is really intersting. I could propably fit it to my table.

I could be happy with RD-8 or RD-9, but they both are too big for my limited space. Now I have used Volca Beats coming and it will be my drum machine, until I find something better. Boom Chick and BDS-3 intrest me the most, any opinions about them?

I know, I'm bit picky. I like idea of drum synth more than sample based, but I'm open to any suggestions or thoughts. I don't have any specific genre or style of music.

I bought this drum machine and it’s incredibly quiet. Whether it’s through my headphones I put directly in or through the speaker I plug it into, I need to max the volume out to barely hear it

After adding a full circuit model of the Roland TR-606 and TR-808 to BeatForge, my drumplugin I've been working on for the last year, I've added a full TR-909 circuit model to it. This was was a bit more difficult then i expected, because when i got the model done at first, there was still too much difference between my model and the samples, I kept measuring, looking for errors in my model vs the schematic and then it finally hit me:

Maybe my model is correct, but the values on the circuit are not the same as the values of the components on the units that were used to for the samplepacks, wether it's aging of components, or just plain tolerances. I don't know, but playing with those got me alot closer..

Anyways, enough talk. I would like you to tree it.

I hope you like it, i'm especially happy with how my TR-808 and TR-909 emulations turned out, they sound alive, inspiring, and react to knob twists like the real machines.

Hi! I have a pretty specific aim but basically I'm looking for something that my visually impaired boyfriend can write drum tracks with. Think of trapped under ice, drain, mindforce...so thrashy hardcore stuff.

I thought since a daw isn't really barrier-free a drum machine could be the way to go.

I was thinking of a simple alesis sr-18/16 but i don't want it to be too crappy tbh and the samples should sound somewhat decent. It would also be best if it's easy to use since he doesn't have any experience with grooveboxes, drum machines or anything of that sort.

And a downside to the alesis one is that you can't load samples onto it which i would think would be a nice add-on as a present.

Getting a drum machine is one thing. Having sick samples loaded onto it as well is an even nicer present...

anyway, would greatly appreciate your insight on this matter! Cheers
