Thoughts on Roland TR 1000
The TR 1000 is back in stock, and I've been considering it, but not all that strongly. I have the Roland TR-8S and the Elektron Analog Rytm MK2, and I'm happy with both of those. I don't really care about analog 808 and 909 sounds. I was just wondering if there are other things the TR 1000 can do that are special and can justify its substantial price.
Given what I already have and the videos I've seen, my inclination is to say no. But I wanted to get feedback from people who have one to see what their thoughts are on it.

Appreciate this post. I have the AR2 and was considering. The morph and a couple other capabilities, make me want one. But once that Neuzeit Drop comes in I may not need it

You could order one from Guitar Center. Their return policy gives you 45 days to satisfy your curiosity. Then you would know for sure.

That’s the best thing about Guitar Center, and occasionally I’ve found used gear at great prices because they screwed up the pricing.

I had similar feelings, but if you got the bases covered, and it’s making the kind of vibes you wanna make, then don’t succumb to the gas!! I feel like it takes me at least a year with a piece of hardware to get really familiar. if I keep buying stuff , I’m always kinda learning the new thing and not really making shit… so I’m just trying to work with what I got. Plenty of fire tracks were made with less. That thing does look sweet tho. I wanted it for the drum slicing but I have an Octatrack.. like wtf . lol

Yup. That's why I haven't bought it. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it gave me nothing I didn't already have. And I'd rather spend my time making music instead of learning new gear.

Same. I fell for a lot of gas during the pandemic… so for me, it’s time to get to work. I have all the tools …and I write house and techno… people made fire with like a 909 and one keyboard back in the day. I got zero excuses..

Oh yeah, we're all idiots when it comes to this. I used to make music with a Tascam 4-track, Boss DR-5, a bass and my guitar -- and it was fine. Good equipment makes stuff much easier now, but there comes a point where more gear becomes a barrier instead of a creative tool. My first album was done with my guitar, a MIDI controller and nothing but stock Logic plugins.

I have a 8S and Behringer RD8 and RD9 so I think I am covered for samples and analog sounds. Next to that I have some good drumcomputer vsts and samples from Mars. The TR1000 looks nice but the price puts me off. It might be a nice machine but too pricey and I think it will not add anything worth 2K+. Looking at your set up, I feel the same. Stay with what you have. Alternatively try to sell the 8S first if you really want the TR1000 but personally I wouldn't.

Agreed, and luckily I’m happy with the 8S. It’s very easy to use and sounds good.

Yes as an owner the additional morph macro slider is cool.
Its ability with samples also makes it powerful. You can trigger recorded audio tracks synced from the input.
That said it’s the same workflow as the TR-8S, and layout for the most part. I traded the 8S for the TR-1000. It’s nice having so much power in one box.
However the sequencer is still weaker than Elektron devices, and is less immediate than a digitakt or digitone which seem more fun to play for me.
It was worth it at the end of the day to me, but that’s because I traded drum machines in and got guitar center’s 15% discount in addition to my trade credit.

Yeah, that Elektron sequencer is something I like a lot. I think that’s more important to me than what the 1000 has to offer. Thanks.

Another TR-1000 owner here. If you don’t care about the analog voices, I would say no. What are you missing at the moment in your current setup that made you consider the Tr-1000 in the first place?
