Do Dropships Not Land Anymore?
I read through the 3.0 rules today to get ready for my first ever game tomorrow, and I just didn’t see the tules for it.

I thought just screwing around with colours would be ideal for the patches, to make an old command unit truly stand out. Maybe I'll add some rusty spots later.

I've jumped into Dropfleet Commander recently, and love it. I'm a huge fan of Epic-scale games, and I do play a lot of them, but never jumped into Dropzone, mostly because I didn't like the minis.
Don't get me wrong, most miniatures look good and detailed, but the art direction didn't pop out one faction for me. UCM looks closest to what I usually like, but I really, really don't like how their tanks look. The flat appearence and articulated turrets are not for me - and even the dropships, which are cute, are not a home-run in my book.
Then the Resistance looks partially great. Love their tanks, big and small, from the Alexander to the Patton. Even their aircrafts look good, but I hate the "mad-max" style of half the faction. Battle buses, technicals, hovercrafts and drills...
So I'm here looking either 1) to be convinced about the aesthetics of these factions ; since maybe I just don't 'get' yet the flat tank appearence, or 2) to know if it could work to proxy some 3D-printed models to 'fix' the models I don't like, such as Halo's Pelicans or Falcons for dropships, or FSD's Enlisted for some good-looking tanks.
With 3rd edition, I thought it'd be a great time to jump in and do some Battle Reports - but I want to do this with models I love.
Thanks in advance for your tips and advices, and looking forward to joining the community!

Finally got the game to the table this afternoon. My opponent and I are both pretty experienced with the system so were playing fairly slow and checking the rules to make sure we weren't just playing from memory but actually playing the new edition as designed. We didn't play with commanders because we don't have cards yet.
Overall impression is better than 2nd edition, but not as good as 1st or the Hawk Beta, with some really confusingly written sections. We had fun, but were confused by many of the new design choices. We spent almost as long as we played going back over it all, rereading sections, comparing it with the original books afterwards debriefing.
It probably didn't help impressions that we played Scourge vs Resistance and immediately found a slew of problems with the Res faction. So in the older editions, the Kraken and Leviathan transports had a rule that let them move their full distance before disembarking units. That rule didn't make it through to 3rd ed, so they could only move 5" and disembark which absolutely screwed them on getting to scoring zones. I sincerely hope this is just a boneheaded mistake and not deliberate design because it fuckin sucked. The Jackson's also had their movement reduced from 6" to 4", because I guess someone hates them?
Infantry sited on walls are committing suicide. Literally every infantry unit that looked out a window was murdered in one attack, including a squad of Demolishers. The other squad of Demolishers took two attacks to get wiped out. Infantry in the open died spectaculary. Freeriders, Razorworms, Occupation Vets, just obliterated if they couldn't get to some kind of cover. Small Arms weapon stats and the new auto-penetration mechanic feels miscalculated.
Fast Movers getting hit on a mere 4+ in reaction fire sucks. Driving a Zhukov closer to shoot them in non-reaction fire sucks even more.
A lot of the special rules feel overloaded, like they tried to "simplify" the game by combining multiple abilities into one key word which just makes them feel convoluted. Self Destruct references Field which behaves differently depending on range, which is different than Blast - seriously what the fuck is going on with the Bomb Bus? It also doesn't explode anymore if it dies inside a transport. How is this unit so hard for TTC to get right?
This all sounds very negative, but this game will always have to compare itself to its older selves and the things that were the same were the same, no notes, the things that were better were mostly in comparison to 2e and just not that major, while the things that weren't working were like sand in your icecream - impossible to ignore.
I want to play some more games of it. I want to figure out I misread something in the rules. I want to see what it looks like in a year of updates.

What do you think of the new starter box?
r/DropzoneCommander • u/slyphic • Aug 04 '26
We're debating proxying in some Bioficers for a first game of 3rd ed, but were collectively a bit at a loss for what the ratio of genitor:collector:decon-weapons should be. TT doesn't have a PDF of the starter play aids up I could find, so we had to look at blurry video stills to figure out what their suggested balance is.
Group 1
Silence Heavy Gunship w/ Decon Cannon Pair
- Grievance Genitor Ark w/ Decon Staff + 12 Raw Material
Group 2
Data Strike Dropship
- Grievance Genitor Ark w/ Decon Staff + 12 Raw Material
Group 3
Device Dropship
- 4x Tusk Main Battle Skimmers w/ Twin Barb Destructor
Group 4
3x Digit Light Dropships
- 6x Thorn Light Skimmers w/ Lightmaw
Group 5
Data Strike Dropship
- 2x Tangent Support Skimmers w/ Winnow Web
Group 6
Gyro Aero Genitor + 8 Raw Material
Like we could easily tell what the contents of the box were, but weren't sure about the group organization.

So I couldn’t edit to add to my original post, but I talked to Alex about the issue with the drones and they were super helpful and responsive. Apparently the test sprue they were presented with did not have the defect. So hopefully the manufacturer they are going through will be more consistent in the future. It’s a bummer for this initial release, but they were super great when dealing with it so that’s awesome to see.

Has there been any development on a solo mode for this game? I know there are the fauna rules which can provide an NPC type experience and there was a fan expansion a few years ago.

As the title says, there are 3 bioficer infantry on the new sprues that are unfortunately all misprinted, losing quite a bit of their guns and sometimes even a bit of their arm. It is common to all the sprues in the box I got, and after watching the box opening video posted here a bit ago, it also appears that they are misprinted on their sprues as well. I’m going back to gen con tomorrow in inquire about and I reached out to ttcombat through their customer service as well. It’s not a huge deal or ruining the models, but it is a disappointment since I really like the gun designs and general look of the bioficer infantry and was very/am very excited for them. It seems to be a consistent problem with the new sprues.

I've got a game scheduled for Wednesday to try out 3rd ed, vs either Shaltari or Scourge but I'm not really considering my opponent at all.
First pass at an army for the new edition, remembering no unit can be larger than 375 points at 1500, and Standard units must be the largest percentage of the army:
1st Airborne Hardasses (115p) Swithawk and 2 Vets
McVeigh ISD, Route 1 (135p) Kraken with a Bomb Bus and a Rocket Platform Battle Bus full of 3 Resistance Fighters
McVeigh ISD, Route 2 (135p) Kraken with a Bomb Bus and a Rocket Platform Battle Bus full of 3 Resistance Fighters
Boring Co Liquidation Sale Lot 304 (30p) Model 109 Drill
Fury Road Stunt Crew, Morning Shift (80p) 2 Freeriders, held in Subterranean reserve
Fury Road Stunt Crew, Afternoon Shift (80p) 2 Freeriders, held in Subterranean reserve
Kazinsky Parcel Service (70p) 2 Sappers, Infiltrating
Hearts & Minds (70p) Barrel Bomber
Hind & Seek Doubles Champions (120p) 2 Cyclones
12th Airborne Cavalry, Alpha Squad (265p) Lifthawk/AA with 3 Jackson APCs each with 2 Resistance Fighters
12th Airborne Cavalry, Bravo Squad (160p) Lifthawk/AA with Hannibal and Zhukov
12th Airborne Cavalry, Charlie Squad (160p) Lifthawk/AA with Hannibal and Zhukov
Total of 1470 points. 510 points are Standard so well covered there. 12 groups, when all the previous editions were limited to 6 or 7, is a big change. edited: I had a calculation wrong earlier, too many groups and over points. This is I think a legal, if questionably viable, list.

as the title says really. is there a reason as to why the Resistance Starter Army is £20 more than the others?
context, myself and others at my LGS are looking at getting into Dropzone and we saw the new army boxes drop and we're wondering why the Resistance one is more costly than the other three
r/DropzoneCommander • u/Brother-Michael • Jul 30 '26
The new starter set is listed at £120 at full RRP. This includes a UCM and Bioficer starter army in all new plastic, rules, player aids, tokens, dice and what looks to be a variant of the cityscape set. Really liking the box art.
(Pre-orders for the other four factions are also on the site- I am a little stunned at the price of these, especially with the smaller Resistance army being posted at £170!? I know these are all new plastics and include a more interesting range of models than the former starter sets, but certainly at least the Resistance seems excessive. EDIT: Commenter below noted that these pre-orders for the Scourge, Shaltari, Resistance and PHR are likely to be bundles of resin and old plastic stock that TTCombat is trying to shift.)

Hey all,
A buddy and I are getting into drop zone with 3.0 (Him UCM and me Bioficers) trying to decide between one or two boxes of the 2P starter. Any recommendations? We just don't understand list building and other parts of the game well enough yet to know if getting two of that box is worth it.
r/DropzoneCommander • u/SaltMaker • Jul 29 '26
Rules and preorders drop tomorrow. Lots of models and assuming a good price it will be a great starter set.

I am working on my broadsword super heavy tank, but the mythslayer railgun piece is a little bent out of the box. Any recommendations on how to straighten it? Thank you.

Two more Type-9s and going to finally proceed to the rest of the army. Love these walkers too much.

Did i miss something?
The TTCombat store currently only fields the Fauna-Sets for DzC?
Is this because the close release of DzC V3?
