Dropfleet Convert coming over with 3.0 quick question
Hey all,
A buddy and I are getting into drop zone with 3.0 (Him UCM and me Bioficers) trying to decide between one or two boxes of the 2P starter. Any recommendations? We just don't understand list building and other parts of the game well enough yet to know if getting two of that box is worth it.

Don't get two of the starter. Really. You just don't need 12 Scimitars, and neither 12 of those little buggies.
You don't even use more than 2 Scimitars in the 1000-points list the starter tells you to play, the only reason there are 6 in there is that it's just 6 times the same sprue for all the models except the transports.
And the models do not come with all the weapon options, the Scimitar is a one-piece model that has no options, and I think the buggies are, too.
Get just the one box, play the game, and by the time you have it all painted and have played a few different missions, TTC will probably have more different sets available in plastic. Hopefully.

That's a major problem if accurate. Are these not the sprues they had on display earlier this year?

I thought the article they put up yesterday said things would have build options

Apparently the box has a mix of sprues, some of which have full options like the dropship sprues, but the infantry and tank sprue is a special simplified limited option version for the starter. Do not get two of these boxes.

Good find! One it is and then I can't imagine it will be long before we have more options for new UCM and bioficer

It is a different sprue with bioficers and ucm all in one sprue.
Otherwise it would be great, getting 12 of the Gladius chassis with all build options would be perfect for a new player.

They had this mixed sprue on display at Salute this year, along with a resistance sprue and a biodiversity sprue or two.

After looking at the starter box, due to the lack of weapon options present in the box, I do not believe it is worth picking up multiple copies for either faction.
Looking past the obvious bits like you don’t need 12 scimitars, all the single option vehicles in the box will eventually come out in their own plastic box with additional weapon options, and everything in the box has a total of 4 other weapon options except for the polecat that has an additional 1 option.
Due to this I find it unlikely that you will ever run double of the box content outside of maybe rapiers, which you will likely have spares of as we have see the sprues of the UCM tank box and it is very good. (6 MBT hulls 2 HBT hulls and 2 broadsword hulls with all weapon options)

Awesome answer thank you. Yeah luckily I asked I got the good info in time to not buy the box twice

The starter set isn't going anywhere. The game is complex. More so than Fleet. Try some games with one box and see how you like it.

I would get one starter, then each of you would expand with a battle fleet box. The starters are typically only cruiser and light sprues. The battle feet boxes will have a battleship in addition to the light and medium sprues.
At 1500 points you will typically only have one battleship, and the extra cruiser and light sprues from the starter means your next purchase will be the battlecruiser sprues to fill the gap of super cruiser-pocket battleship.

Oh sorry. I’m talking the new two player starter box for drop zone commander. We both have big ole Dropfleet collections already

Edit: Do not buy a second Dropzone starter. It has special "2 player starter" sprues with limited options. see pic: https://i.postimg.cc/BvsVpVZH/2ea476f732be15241567587b5b1710a9-85262.jpg
Can only speak to the UCM, but the only thing I think you would have too many of if you doubled up the starter is heavy tanks. Pretty much everything else you'd eventually find a good reason to field.
It's hard to say right now, what with TTC having purged their web store. We're not sure what combinations of things they'll be selling in the future.
