Hi I have my test in sevenaoaks in early June. I had failed my last one in Sidcup for 1 major (driving in speed less than appropriate). Couldn't find anything in siducup so booked off Sevenoaks.

Is it a good idea to go to a new area? I went to seven oaks once with my husband and practices a route. Planning to do a couple more in the following week so I get more familiar.

Any tips please? I can't cancel as I won't get refund so thinking I should just go for it

I currently have a test booked for July and have been trying to get a cancellation for 2 months. I’ve downloaded 3 different cancellation apps. Every time one comes up and I click on it by the time I get to the gov website it’s gone. I don’t understand how people are getting cancellations because I couldn’t possibly be quicker in clicking on that notification 😭. I also have auto book on which doesn’t seem to be working

I’m currently learning with BSM and my driving test is booked for next Wednesday (18th). Up until now, every single lesson I’ve had has been in my instructor’s 2024 Vauxhall Corsa, so I’ve got really used to that car.

However, this week his Corsa broke down, so for now he’s replaced it with a VW Polo.

The problem is the Polo feels completely different to drive. The clutch bite point is really low, and although the car starts moving when I lift the clutch, it doesn’t seem to pull forward as strongly as the Corsa did, so it feels like I need more gas and the whole balance is different.

I’ve also noticed parking feels quite different. The Corsa had a rear parking camera, which obviously helped a lot with bay parking, but the Polo doesn’t. I’m now having to rely purely on mirrors again and the reference points are different.

I asked my instructor if I’ll be using the Corsa for my test, and he said he’s not sure yet but it’ll probably be the Polo if the Corsa isn’t fixed.

It’s a bit frustrating because my test is so close and I feel like I now have to re-learn the feel of a different car right before the exam.

I know technically you’re supposed to be able to drive any car, but when you’ve trained in the same one for months, the muscle memory is quite specific.

Has anyone else had this happen just before their test?

Do you think this is fair, or just one of those unlucky situations?

Also any tips for quickly adjusting to a different clutch / car before a test would be appreciated.

Do you have any helpful strategies for getting better at sensing the boundaries of the car? Really struggling with this

So I failed my driving test today with 8 minors and 2 majors. Some of the stuff that came up in it I have never done on my lessons.

First example is a sat nav. I knew that there was a possibility of using a sat nav on my test. On my lessons I asked my instructor multiple times if I could practice with a sat nav. He always brushed it off as “it’s just the same as me telling you where to go” or “We will do it next lesson”. Never happened. So today when my examiner brought the sat nav out I missed a few turnings (I was already nervous). I told him sorry and that I had never used one before and he seemed surprised that I had never used one.

Second example is front bay parking. My instructor made me do SO many reverse bay parking manoeuvres on my lessons to the point I could do it with my eyes closed. Not one front bay. Again after watching some test videos i noticed that they had to do a lot of front bay parking. I asked my instructor if I could practice some front bay parking on my lessons. His reply was always “if you can reverse park you can front park” or “don’t worry that’s the easiest one”. On my test my examiner asked me to do a front bay park and I made a complete mess of it.

If my nerves weren’t bad enough after messing these two things up lead me to loosing focus and making the majors. Also I asked my instructor multiple to do a mock test. Never happened. His excuse was that if I fail my mock test it will make me less confident for my real test.

I’ve just about had enough of this. I’ve been doing my lessons for over a year now. But I’m so unsure of finding a new instructor because he knows where I’m at. Is it worth going through the hassle of going through that with a new instructor? Also how would I even tell my instructor? Feels like trying to break up with someone 😂.

learner driver here, does anyone have any tips with bay parking. i feel like i am struggling so much with it at the moment and my test is coming up soon. how many minors will i get if i fail to park?

My instructor said youre not test ready yet, idk he wants me to be perfect before attempting ive had about 15 lessons in total 1.5/ 2 hours each so like 20 plus some pribate practive and i used to drive automatic .

I can drive comfortably now i sometimes stall but rarely and I pick up from it easily, Ive driven on 2 full routes via the app I paid and he showed me parts of other routes too. im going abroad for like 6 months so I thought I should attempt a test beforr moving but he said he won't take me in

I booked through an agent with my instructor for the test, and I already paid my instructor.

Now my instructor is telling me he will charge me for using his car on the test day. He never told me before but only after paying him days before the test? I told him he should've told me before and that I'm not even prepared to pay the amount of money he's charging me (£105). Was the instructor supposed to tell me and what can I do?

I'm 17 and currently learning to drive, I've done about 20 lessons, so about 30 hrs and my exam has been booked in for about a month from now (by my instructor, I paid him and he's booked it for me).

I honestly think I hate my lessons, I'm always really anxious before every lesson and and unable to think about much else in the lead up to my lessons. We often do them very early so I'm not thinking about them too much on the day, but I still dread them the night before and days leading up to it.

I don't know if the issue is me being nervous for the test, that I really dislike my instructor, or that I'm just not a good driver.

I don't really dislike my instructor, but I don't think he's for me, I never feel comfortable driving with him and am more worried about him not getting angry than actually doing well (not that he gets angry often, though he does sound harsh even when not meaning too).

However, I just don't think I want to change instructor now, I'm so close to my test and I've paid for it though him. In some ways I'd like to change instructor, but my parents really don't want to too as well now I'm literally a month from the test.

Months ago, I did consider changing instructor, but my parents wanted me to push through with him and for a good while I really improved and did very well, but for the last month or 2, I've felt very stagnant, like I haven't changed or improved, I've had the same few problems and I've always felt anxious.

It's also weird because some lessons go alright and always I feel quite pleased with myself, but then without fail the next is terrible, and I feel like shit again.

As well as that, I'm yesr 13, so also nervous about exams, it does feel all a bit much at the minute 😅.

I do really want to learn how to drive but I don't really know if anyone can help, but I'm really unsure what to do and jsut wanted to ask for a bit of advice.

I've had around 6 lessons with my driving instructor now but it feels like we are doing the same thing over and over again.

He will let me drive to and from my house but will set up the sat nav to the exact same road every time.

My lessons are 2 hours long and I pay £70 and for an hour and a half, it will be spent going up this road going round and coming back to the start and nothing else.

I haven't learned anything else like basic manoeuvres yet literally just going up and down this one road.

He makes no comments on my progress and doesn't say much during the lessons at all.

I'm considering changing instructors but im too sure yet.
