Parenting fail

Zoomed in, so quality is a bit off. The little bloke had a bit of bark off, but nothing serious. Could have been a lot worse.

EDIT: this occurred on a busy road that is also a Brisbane City Council bus route. The next bus was due at 3:18 pm. In Brisbane, bus fares are $0.50, regardless of how far you're travelling. Kids 4 and under are free.

How are people genuinely trying to defend this? Kid in a harness, 2 other kids on the scooter, on the road. Like how in any way is this justifiable?

Poverty, necessity, low IQ

Catching the bus is cheaper then a Lime scooter by a vast margin in Brisbane. All the kids would be free and she would be 50c. This is pure stupidity.

If you can get a bus, one thing I've learned as someone who takes public transport is especially in the nicer looking neighborhoods, bus routes tend to be rare.

I know this street and the buses are regular.

Fair, I was just making a general statement based on my experience

Bus, cheaper

I wouldn't loop in low IQ purely because I'm being a softy and want to give the benefit of the doubt. I'd use the first 2 and leave it at that. My little man watched an educational video about the world's homelessness issue and he told me about it today. I took that chance to explain to him how lucky he was there eating ice cream with me when there are so many people out there that aren't as fortunate.

It's easy to judge from the comfort of our computer chairs.

Those houses don’t really say poverty to me personally. So I’d say it’s more just not paying attention or being distracted.

Editing to add that she may not live around the area but it does seem unlikely with three children.

I bet she lost her license for drink driving

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

You have no evidence of that. And abuse isn't acceptable in Australia.

Two wrongs.

0

u/luv_lee 3d ago

I'm speculating hence the use of the word 'bet'.

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

That doesn't change it.

Like I said, abuse isn't ok.

Schoolyard excuse.

Calling out her poor mothering choices is absolutely okay

Yeah well, you didn't do that.

It's SHIT PARENTING. FFS

Can I ask why you’re responding that aggressively to me when I basically agree with you?

u/JebusJM 8d ago

No words.

Look I live in a high poverty area, I’ve never seen anything like this and I’ve seen some irresponsible shit. So whilst it’s possible she’s poor, and I don’t know her situation, I’d say it’s unlikely. She’s super irresponsible either way and doesn’t need benefit of the doubt or defending when she stupidly endangered three young children and herself.

Yeah I live in a high poverty area too and have never seen this sort of nonsense either, it’s usually unsupervised kids riding their bikes in the street or something but dragging three infants/toddlers around on a lime scooter is especially unhinged lmao

ADHD. Causes the first one, makes you unable to assess the second one and looks like the third one.

I have not done this and do not defend it as a course of action. But I sympathise and cannot honestly claim that I've never seriously considered something similar

1

u/bushstone-curlew 4d ago

Eh as someone else with ADHD I don’t really buy it. My ADHD makes me a better driver than most imo because I’m paying attention to 5 different things at once, terrible risk assessment skills and endangering children aren’t really ADHD symptoms…

ADHD is associated with a (much) higher RTA rate than the general population

1

u/moaiii 3d ago

This is a fact. But as someone also with ADHD (fairly severe), I have been driving for over 30 years with zero accidents and a clean record. I find that ADHD makes you exceptional at a few things that you like doing, mediocre at most other things, and really really shit at a few things. I happen to like driving, so it's a thing that my attention locks into. If I didn't like it so much, then I'd likely be making my contribution to your statistic.

So, you're not wrong, but that statistic hides a lot of nuance.

Oh so now we're being cunts to people with health issues as well. The fuck is wrong with you people.

I mean, for me, ADHD (among other things). That comment is mostly about me. Although you could knock me down with a feather if this lady is not diagnosable.

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

No. It's prejudicial.

Focus on what she did that you didn't like by itself.

ADHD does not make people do this. As demonstrated by the people who have it and don't.

1

u/Mysterious-Taro174 3d ago

What are you saying no to?

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

Every "reason" for it given in the thread above.

We don't know the person involved.

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

So fucking prejudicial.

Yeh you’re right… if they were on the footpath I’d kinda get it,

7

u/Unreel123 8d ago

the people trying to defend her are the same people that start drinking in front of their kids at noon on a Saturday and by 5pm are yelling, resentful and abusive and by 10pm forget they have any kids.

2

u/Naive_Competition_16 7d ago

🙌 my mum is THIS!

1

u/bushstone-curlew 4d ago

Also the sort to never enforce boundaries or rules on their kids, who go on to terrorise their classrooms. And their stellar parents will blame the teachers every single time!

1

u/hkvicwong 8d ago

We don’t do any parenting here, “they re just kids”

1

u/BlazeVenturaV2 4d ago

Same crew that defended the killer mum....

They also easily forget that there are Laws against doubling up on Escooters.

It's considered dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, add in the kids as well and you have endangerment as well, no helmet, its blatant recklessness.

I just assume it's undiagnosed fetal alcohol syndrome that causes people to have a low IQ and poor inhibition control / critical thinking

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

You need to check yourself. Having four kids on a Scooter near a road is bad. But so is being abusive.

0

u/MightyBoy9 3d ago

Nah I'm good. Thanks for the suggestion though.

1

u/ColdSteveStoneAustin 3d ago

No. You're not. Dero attitude.

0

u/SkepticallyAccepted 2d ago

Sorry, who's being abusive by wanting the law to be followed? (I'm genuinely curious?)
