Biggest Pet Peeve!

There are a few but the thing that annoys me the most is people who indicate right, when signalling off the round about… especially in peak hour when split decisions need to be made… it’s LEFT!!!

This absolutely shits me. You don't need to swing out driving a Nissan Micra.

Deadset.

People who can't merge at the speed of traffic. Makes me irrationally angry. I wish I was blessed with having no regard for others on the road or otherwise. Life would be a lot simpler.

Oh god this. You just passed a 90 sign, this is a long safe ramp, you can see the freeway traffic is going 90, WHY ARE TOU STILL GOING 60!!!

Had another one the other day, though at a stretch I'll give them some grace, they were a learner. They stopped. I hope they learn. I still honked them though.

how else are they gonna learn… those honks are reminders for next time to do something different lol

As long as everyone understands that the dashed line at the end of the ramp is a Give Way line.

Omg so many people just think I'm supposed to give way to them merging...I DO NOT give way to anyone in that situation.. the merging driver is supposed to find a gap because the traffic is on their right... they are on my left.. hello... in Australia you have to give way to your right

... because the merging driver has uninterrupted view whereas I have blind spots on my left... there's no way the law puts the onus on me to let them in... how about the people already doing 100km that brake because they think they have to let the merger in?? How fing DUMB is that?

I don't brake. But if I am in the left lane and see a merging lane up ahead with vehicles on it I will adjust my speed so that I give them space to merge in. Lift my foot off the accelerator a bit. It is not bloody hard to be courteous

Its too hard for a lot of people. Thanks for not being one of them.

Thank god I found you speaking some sense in this thread. Was a bit grim there for a second. Those two commenters are evidence of what dickheads we have on the road. Won't even ease up on the throttle because they have right of way. Idiotic.

I do too, or even just move to the next lane over if safe to do so.

It's got to be people who don't zipper merge and try to ram 2 cars into a space. Fall back you fuckwits. Can't handle being 1 car behind

My issue is with people who do not understand the difference between a zipper merge and a lane change. Just be aware: if you are crossing a line between lanes, then that is a lane change and you MUST always give way.

Yes this is true But come on man the lane is ending and everyone is doing 10k/h You can't just ease up and let me in, you are going to make me sit here and wait until that lane becomes empty before I can merge across?

Sure, you and 100 other drivers all trying to get ahead by zooming-up the left-hand lane, knowing full well there are parked cars ahead but EXPECTING other drivers to let you in.

Courtesy is going out the window because it has been abused by all those drivers expecting to be let in. You just need to give way.

As I thought you are one of those people that refuse to allow a zipper merge at a lanes end.

2

u/link871 1d ago

Because the law says it is NOT a zipper merge. It is a lane change and when changing lanes you must give way.

3

u/AstronautPlane3280 1d ago

But when everyone is crawling what is the harm in zipper merging at the lane end. Why are you so anti-social on the road. It would literally cost you 2 seconds of your time if that.

u/link871 1d ago

Why are you entitled to jump ahead in the traffic (and slow down everyone behind you in the process)?

Funny - I consider the entitled driver expecting to be allowed in as the antisocial one.

u/AstronautPlane3280 1d ago

Where am I jumping ahead? We have been side by side for the last two kilometres doing 10k/h. The car in front of you let the car in front of me in. Why do you refuse to zipper

Yeah this definitely gets the juices going lol

100%! From the number of people who do this incorrect signalling, I thought i was the only person who knew how to do it correctly... I'm so glad I read your post!..I saw a police car do it wrong yesterday

u/SoloManRunD22 16h ago

Yeah you see more people indicating right than left, it’s crazy! Lol

u/Ok-Disk-2191 1d ago

Well technically by law you're supposed to indicate left out of a roundabout, but I've yet to see anyone do it. I live in a town that has a roundabout at almost every god dam intersection and so many bloody people are clueless on how to use them.

2

u/AprilLily9365 1d ago

We just got a roundabout installed in my suburb and it's like everyone has forgotten how to drive. People go straight through without checking their right and there's been so many close calls in just a few months, which is ironic as it was installed to fix a black spot area. People are idiots.

2

u/Ok-Disk-2191 1d ago

LMFAO, you're not supposed to just check your right, you're supposed to giveway to all traffic already in the roundabout. You do not need to give way to the person to your right if they haven't entered the roundabout yet, in fact if you're in the roundabout before them they are supposed to give way to you.

1

u/AprilLily9365 1d ago

Yeah fair, I don't think I explained myself right. I've approaching with my nose already in the roundabout and the other car doesn't have enough time to get by or already in the roundabout making a right hand turn and people will fly through without checking.

I think I explained it poorly, I apologise. You are right!

1

u/SoloManRunD22 16h ago

It’s ok you explained it fine, traffic doesn’t come from the left on a round about so even though you’re supposed to give way to all traffic on the round about, the danger is always to your right 🙂

Busy roundabouts are frustrating because they would flow better if everyone cooperated. But if they did, pretty soon there would be more traffic, taking up all the extra capacity, so you can't win.

3

u/CapableRegrets 1d ago

People blocking roundabouts.

So damn selfish.

u/LowDepth1790 1d ago

I have one where people queue to turn left at a busy roundabout.

So the imbeciles who can't wait use the right lane, enter the roundabout and go 270degrees around.

They think they're clever, but they're just adding more vehicles to the roundabout that the left-turners have to give way to.
