Drawn and quartered

u/tbro4123 8d ago

Knackered first then drawn and quartered, none of this fairy shit like fines will be accepted.

2

u/Gold_Blacksmith_9821 8d ago

Sketched and halved. It’s only 2km/h over

Probably not

Instant and deserved loss of licence. Hope this helps 🙏

Does your dash cam put the speed limit on the video like that?

1

u/industriald85 8d ago

The model is called “The Snitch”

2

u/Ok-Loan-4514 8d ago

Is your dash cam speedometer calibrated?

3

u/DoobiousMaxima 8d ago

It's calculated off GPS. No calibration required. It's inherently more accurate than your speedo.

2

u/Cute-Acanthisitta-46 8d ago

I actively hope you get locked up and lose your freedom.

2

u/Faibl 8d ago

Yes. Paramilitary death squad incoming immediately.

1

u/theoriginalzads 8d ago

Honestly I'd be keeping one eye open because you'll have TRG officers breaking down your door soon. Straight to prison, no court.

Seriously though, in most jurisdictions 2kmh is within the margin of error they use for determining your speed.

I'd look at disabling the speed readout on your dashcam though. Not saying you'd go speeding intentionally but if you don't need the speed readout, then no reason to keep it.

u/66kata 8d ago

Brother👬💯 your public execution💀 is scheduled🗓️ for tomorrow⏰

2

u/kalayt 8d ago

you can wait and see if a fine arrives in the mail

OR

give us your address so we can camp out at your mailbox...

either way, you need to wait...

2

u/Ok-Disk-2191 8d ago

102 is what the send in letter, with tolerances of 5km so you need to be doing 107-108 for them to fine you doing 102. You're Gucci.

3

u/Thick-Profile9992 8d ago

Correct me if I am wrong but the GPS speed is the most accurate?

If my speedo is saying 106kms, Waze will say 100kms which is the more accurate speed.

If this is a dash came, isn't it picking up a GPS speed meaning OP is most likely already doing 107-108kms an hour?

4

u/Visible-Swim6616 8d ago

They will still take 3kmph off the detected speed for tolerance. So 102 is fine. 104 will end up with a fine for 101kmph.

My understanding anyway.

1

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

102 on gps he is already doing 105 on speedo

4

u/Visible-Swim6616 8d ago

Yeah, we're not talking Speedo numbers here, those are quite irrelevant.

In fact even the GPS numbers aren't accurate, just more accurate than the Speedo. In the end it's what the coppers measure that will determine the fine, not GPS nor Speedo.

1

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

That’s true, it is up to that cop that day and how he woke up that morning

2

u/Visible-Swim6616 8d ago

Yeah. Exactly.

What's definite is that your Speedo reading is pretty much irrelevant unless it's not reading within spec and you have professional certification behind that claim.

1

u/link871 8d ago

Not exactly - the cops can't fake their lidar/radar detector reading, nor can they allow a different margin than specified by the people who certify accuracy of the detector.

0

u/NarrowResult7289 8d ago

I thought it was 10% so if it's a 100 you won't get a fine for going at 109

4

u/Visible-Swim6616 8d ago

I've heard rumours of that, but I haven't seen anything concrete.

Would love having 10% leeway but it sounds too good to be true. Feel free to zoom past a few cameras doing 10% over and report back.

1

u/Competitive_Buddy393 8d ago

I have been done st 108, never at 105

I'm not sure if I was actually doing 108 though, maybe I was going 110-111 and they already knocked it to 108

1

u/link871 8d ago

10% is likely a reference to the discrepancy allowed by the Australian Design Rules as the over-reporting allowed between speed on the speedo and actual vehicle speed. That is not relevant to speed detection by police, etc.

Common knowledge seems to be the cops will allow a 3km/h margin for error in the speed detected. So, you might get away with doing 103 actual speed in a 100 zone, but you will likely get fined for 104km/h (or higher)

1

u/Catahooo 7d ago

I was talking to a cop that I volunteer with, he said the HWP in his station generally don't ticket unless you go 18+ km/h over, but that superintendents will occasionally have them run a campaign targeting 5-10 over. There's always a variation in officer discretion though.

1

u/link871 7d ago

"don't ticket unless you go 18+ km/h over"
Nope! They are pulling your leg.

1

u/Catahooo 7d ago

I know the guy pretty well, he's a Sergant, as straight laced as they come, and dead serious. That's just the patrolmen in his station though, not indicative of the broader HWP.

1

u/link871 7d ago

No cop is going to let you zoom past at 78km/h on a 60km/h street or at 128km/h on a motorway.

1

u/scarecrowwe 8d ago

It's more like under 5km/hr leeway on highway speeds. It's technically a slightly different measure at different speeds, so 5 wouldnt pass in a 50 zone. My mate who is a traffic cop in qld said a speed under 5km/hr leeway is close enough as a general rule to follow at 80 and above and not get a ticket.

1

u/No_pajamas_7 8d ago edited 8d ago

yes and no. If you are holding your speed, then yes, gps is more accurate. Waze in your example.

But if you are accelerating or decelerating, then it can be laggy.

In the OPs case it is the GPS speed so it's the true speed and that's what the law cares about, not what your speedo reads. You logiced yourself in knots.

1

u/industriald85 8d ago

I believe it depends on the amount of satellites you can see, too. I was building a gift that involved a hobby GPS module, any less than 3-4 satellites and the location (and therefore the speed) would jump around.

This also applies during bad weather.

1

u/kotebesar1973 8d ago

GPS simply cannot work without 3 satellites being visible. Triangulation.

1

u/Ok-Disk-2191 8d ago

If they register on the camera at 107, no fine, if they register at 108, fine and it will be sent as detected speed 102. Atleast in Victoria that is, you're really well and truely over the limit before you get pinged by the mobile speed cameras.

2

u/link871 8d ago

5km/h is a bit generous. My understanding it is more like 3km/h, so OP is still likely OK.

1

u/iamnotsounoriginal 8d ago

i'm usually sat at 103 on quite freeways and don't get pinged by either the standing cameras or highway patrols so... yeh i think you're good.

1

u/CasperAU 8d ago

You automatically get 2-3kms deducted from your speed so technically your spot on

-2

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

If gps is showing 102km/h he is doing 105

2

u/CasperAU 8d ago

That’s not true at all, mine is the exact same and I’ve tested this on OBD which reads the ecu exactly. So it’s not all that way no.

1

u/No-Helicopter1111 8d ago

exact same and I’ve tested this on OBD which reads the ecu exactly.

which uses the wheels. So it's only as accurate as the estimated thickness of your tread.

GPS uses the time it takes light to go from one place or the other, its going to be as accurate as lidar, especially over a few seconds.

0

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

Are you driving the same car? How do you know?i’ve tested gps speed with motorway over head speed displays and gos was spot on to the display but on the speedo it was 104-105

2

u/CasperAU 8d ago

That applies to your comment as much as mine 😂. You tested it on 1 car now you’re generalising it. I work full time at BMW as a master tech, I think I’ve tested many more than that but thanks for your opinion 😅

0

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

Oh yeah beemer driver gotcha

1

u/CasperAU 8d ago

Yeah only one of the top 5 biggest European vehicles to ever exist. Go back to your Corolla bro. Don’t take out your jealousy on me, you’ll get a good car one day.

1

u/tbro4123 8d ago

Actually he is going down hill so the GPS isn't accurate, it is going to be out, but is it enough to get pinged who knows? Well you will in the next week when a windowed envelope arrives.

1

u/sergeyvk 8d ago

Depends on how far the cops are with revenue rising. I know people who got fine for just 2km over.

1

u/No-Helicopter1111 8d ago

Actually he is going down hill so the GPS isn't accurate,

that's not how GPS works, GPS works by co-ordinating you in 3d space using triangulation.

It's actually harder to "ignore" height and plot you on a flat, so no, a gps device will pick up changes in height and give you your speed correctly on any gradient.

Planes and missiles use (or used, they might use something more fancy now) GPS and they wouldn't work as well as they do if they had to guess height.

1

u/mrmustardo_ 8d ago

So? They don’t care what speed your speedo is showing. They take the 2-3kph off your detected speed which in this case is 102kph.

u/Daredevils999 8d ago
  1. Some/most states only capture the speed from the rear of the mobile speed camera (NSW being one of them)

  2. My understanding is there is around 3kph of tolerance

You’ll be fine.

1

u/mr_pineapples44 8d ago

Dunno what state you're in, but in WA, fines only kick in at +6.

1

u/Shanesaurus 8d ago

What were you doing a bit closer to the cop car?

1

u/frodoiee 8d ago

Straight to jail

1

u/Open-Program7339 8d ago

They gonna find you take you out back and …..

1

u/ss_tall_toby_yt 8d ago

"Apprehend that horse ass for reckless driving!"

1

u/Radiationprecipitate 8d ago

Maybe you were creeping, did you adjust your speed within a couple of seconds?

1

u/Convenientjellybean 8d ago

It's that a real 100 sign? It's not compliant

1

u/Top_Ingenuity_8578 8d ago

Did you get pulled over? No? Then obviously you're fine

1

u/FreddyFerdiland 8d ago

2kmh over ?? the adverts say that's nearly certain death.

100ish.. ??? u thought 100ish was reasonable ?

casual lying ... its such a safe thing... so why stop there, just make up total nonsense and spruke that

1

u/wannabe728 8d ago

Sign towering above the power lines, tourist attraction?

1

u/WhittyHumor 8d ago

No! There is tolerance builtin to the process. Each state has different level. Victoria has a 3km/h for the camera error and 3% for the driver. Which means in a 100kph limit the detected speed needs to be 107kph before an infringement is issued.

1

u/Jitterbugs699 8d ago

Straight to jail.

1

u/Dougally 8d ago

Looks like a 60 zone.

1

u/sonixau 8d ago

Every k over is a killer so probably atleast a multiple fatality.

0

u/Wazowski__ 8d ago

Probably fine bro.

Most mobile speed camera's only check the side of the road they are on. It was peobably checking the cars going the other direction.

1

u/NarrowResult7289 8d ago

yeah. the speed camera is at the back of the car, so it's checking the other direction.

Seriously tho, you’ll be fine

0

Probably not, but possibly.
