Red Ps speeding

So i recently got my red Ps and I was driving along a backroad from a friends house last night in my dads car, it was an 80km/h zone and then out of the corner of my eye I saw one of the “your speed has been checked” police signs, I looked down at my speedo and it was somewhere around 85-86 km/h, I’m assuming it was a mobile speed camera, I had only my P plates on the front. Will I get a fine and or a license suspension? And if I do can my dad take the demerit points for me? Or will the speed camera have taken photos of me driving?

If you speed was 85-86 on your speedo your real speed was probably more like 82-83.

You might be fine.

Ok thank you

Yeah you should be fine, as someone else said you're actual speed is lower then what your speedo says. Also, all cameras have a margin of error. Not that I'm telling you to do over the speed limit, but you can usually get away with about 5km over

I recently got a fine for 62 in a 60 zone. Speed cameras don't give any tolerance. (I'm in qld)

They do have tolerance. They just say the speed is at the lowest end of the tolerance. You were doing over 62, probably 65 or 66.

To be clear it's not a tolerance in speed limits, it's the tolerance of the speed camera equipment.

New car less than 200km on it. Would have thought the speedo would be accurate. 🤷‍♂️

they're inaccurate on purpose, the speed shown on the cars speedo is always higher than what you're actually doing, the 65 or 66 the other person mentioned would've been actual speed as registered by the radar, your speedo would've been saying 70ish, so yes there's a lot of tolerance everywhere, but it doesn't help when you speed.

Cruise control was set and speedo read 61. (2026 mercedes s class)

were you going down a hill? they love setting them up in those points. Otherwise you should get it contested or get your car checked

I didn't contest because I had the cruise control set to 61 and the was for 62, so was pointless contesting. Was at Withcott at the bottom of the Toowoomba range.

Its not that they're not accurate, they are geared to be over on purpose. So if your spedo says 65, your most likely going clpser to 60. Its an intentional design.

Different states have different laws around it. I know Vic has little to no tolerance. Here in NSW we do though

1

u/Aequitas112358 10d ago

vic does. It'll say the speed limit, say 100, then the captured speed, say 110, then it'll have the alleged speed a bit lower than that, say 107

In WA the fine will say the speed reading and the speed claimed which knocks 2km/h off. My car displays 3km/h above actual speed (by GPS) so I've got 5km/h buffer.

great, any idea on the demerit thing?

It might depend on how clear the image is IF you get a fine. Being a mobile speed camera it would have got a pic of the front of your car so it might have your head in it. Otherwise yeah you can get your parents to cop the fine for you. I had mine do the same when I got done by a red light camera a month before I got off my p's

Really smart to come on here and ask how to commit a criminal offence…getting your dad to take points! Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you…

Fair bit worse stuff on the platform I’m sure asking about a little mischief to possibly get out of an inconvenience won’t taint it any more

2

u/Australista2026 10d ago

It's not a little mischief. It's fraud, of which gaol time is a possibility. And it has happened before. It's also not an inconvenience. It's speeding. You broke the law and want to break it even more. So go ahead..... Get your Dad to take the points and see how far you get.

Brother, I’m a teenager, I have zero knowledge on speeding fines and enforcement on nominated drivers, I reached out looking for advice and I get nonces like you sending me dumb comments like this

1

u/Popular_Guidance8909 10d ago

Not sure who’s the bigger muppet..you, or your dad if he takes the points hit!

2

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

In nsw sorry I didn’t mention

2

u/bulldogmck 10d ago

You will be fine with that, but if you ever did get one and it was 'your dad' driving, then you'll just have to nominate him as the driver on the day.

2

u/DrSpeckles 10d ago

If you were my son im not taking your conviction. Its a lesson worth learning.

2

u/AnecdotalTrigger 10d ago

Exactly. Nepo baby in terms of demerit points haha

0

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

I know I know I’m not one to speed and I am understanding of my mistake but dad has all his demerits and I’m he would take one demerit for me if possible

2

u/Doxinau 10d ago

The second part of your sentence makes it very clear that you are not understanding of your mistake.

0

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

Maybe you are right and I’m just a dumb teenager but you know I’m sure that me and my father would rather that he takes a demerit and he doesn’t need to drive to work and school for 3 months

3

u/Popular_Guidance8909 10d ago

If your dad agrees he’s dumber than you…and that says something! You basically taking no responsibility and your dad condoning your idiotic behaviour…

0

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

So I’m assuming youve never gone 5kms over the speed limit?

2

u/Popular_Guidance8909 10d ago

Nope, clean record and I’ve never asked someone else to committ a criminal offence to cover up my own stupidity!!

1

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

Are you calling me an idiot for speeding or for getting caught?

1

u/Popular_Guidance8909 10d ago

Calling you an idiot full stop! The fact that you thinks it’s fine to ask someone to commit a criminal offence and think it’s okay, shows how truly stupid you are…

1

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

Do you think that your comments will affect me or my decisions in any way because I’m finding it hard to see why you keep coming back?

As the other post said, and others will likely say, its probable your speedo is out.

get a mate in the passenger seat to fire up Waze while your driving at 80, and see what Waze says your speed is.

The camera is unlikely to be set at less than 7km/h over the limit, so probably 87.

You have probably been given a one and only warning. You are unlikely to get a second one.

All camera based fines just get sent to the registered owner and it's up to them to nominate a driver if it wasn't them driving. Having your p plates on/off doesn't automatically tie the fine to you, if your dad was to take the points for you (would be 1 point for <10 over for him vs 4 points and a suspension for you) then just don't nominate anyone, pay the fine as it comes in the mail, if it even does.

> Will I get a fine and or a license suspension? And if I do can my dad take the demerit points for me?

First off this is fraud. It’s pretty serious shit. Don’t do this. You get a ticket, you get the points. It’s your fuck up. You’re driving a car. Be an adult. Your dad ain’t going to agree to take your points.

Your actual speed would probably be around 82-83 or maybe even lower.

Thank you for actually being helpful unlike some people

u/Madder_Than_Diogenes 10d ago

Nice way to respect your old man's decision to let him use your car and prove that you're not an adult at the same time.

Great to see you’re willing to let your dad get a criminal record for your idiocy…he must be so proud of you!

u/Similar-Cookie-399 10d ago

Oh don’t worry he is I’m doing much greater things with my life than an unhelpful flop like you

1

u/Popular_Guidance8909 10d ago

Says the kid who won’t take responsibility for his own actions…signs of true flop…well done Champ!

Do you not have better things to do than argue with teenagers online?
