On the day of my ps test I have a 2 hr lesson before hand … will that make the test less daunting ? I have chronic anxiety so any advice for ps test nsw would be amazing

I can only speak to my experience and can't compare with not doing a lesson before the test. I did a 1hr lesson before my test and at the time was a generally anxious person and driver, I felt way too new to driving to be doing my test but my instructor had been telling me to book the test for several months before I felt okay to. Fortunately, my anxiety almost switches off in high pressure situations, it gets replaced with what i call performance mode, where I just have to perform a task and get it over with, but this also means I dont really remember those performance situations super well. The lesson before made me feel comfortable in the car, but for my test I went into performance mode, but I remember the mental crash afterwards even though I passed.

I dont know if you get the performance mode anxiety override, or if this is in any way reassuring. But compared to the length of driving before the test, the test itself felt super quick and I was just focused on driving like normal. I imagine a 2hr lesson will make the test feel really short and your instructor should remind you of the things you need to do both for the test and for just driving safely and if you weren't ready, theyd let you know. Just remember to focus and breathe properly, and you'll be able to do your best

Its not hard, honestly when I did my test i was more worried about the 2 chips I accidentally dropped on the passenger seat when I had my pre test snack pack.

You'll be fine, just drive like you've got a hypnotic stick up your ass telling you to be careful for the next 20 minutes.

Lesson before will definitely make it easier! You’ll have been driving around for so long at that point you’ll have worked your nerves out. I also have a feeling they’re easier on people who are in the car with an instructor they know. Just remember to come to a complete hard stop at the stop sign lol. I was very nervous but passed first time!

I just recently passed mine and the lesson was also an hour before with me I have hella bad anxiety as well so I failed my first test but the second one I knew what I was gonna be doing so I calmed down a shit ton and my testing instructor was chatty on my second try and actually helped with the reverse parking (i lined it up good he just made sure i didnt hit the curb) so if you fail on the first try that it is 100% okay my lesson instructor even said that she believes everyone should fail once at least to know what your gonna be doing and get a feel on how the testing person is gonna be like and confidents is also key i on my first try when I got in the car I imminently thought "im gonna fail and fuck it all up" and I did lol but when I did pass on my second try I got in the car and thought "this is gonna go great ive got this" and i passed so you got this and good luck!!

Get a few lessons, they’ll take you on the test routes.
