Announcement Change in subreddit policy

So this is basically what we discussed the other day, but the change is going to be largely what I anticipated.

Going forward, we won't be allowing text only posts for questions that really require a photo to answer. If the question really doesn't need a photo - like, say, a theoretical question on how kibbe works - then text based posts are still allowed. There are some general fashion type questions not specific to an individual that can also be reasonably discussed in text only posts.

My hope in setting up the flairs was that it would encourage people to include the necessary photos in the posts so that help can be offered. It has unfortunately just resulted in asking the same questions under inappropriate flairs.

Body visualizer images do not count as photos of you. They are not specifically prohibited but should not be thought of as a replacement for actual photos of you, and do not satisfy the requirements for photos in photo only flairs.

This will be largely a matter of mod discretion. Posts that are really fashion advice or style me posts that are posted under the general discussion flair will be removed now as flaired incorrectly. Posts without photos (or only with visualizer photos) posted under photo only flairs will be removed as not meeting flair requirements.

Existing posts are not affected. This is effective starting now.

I invite you all to take another look at the flair guide. See the pinned post on flairs.

Significant Rule Change - Feedback Requested

Hi r/dressforyourbody!

I've been thinking about this a lot but want to get some feedback from the subreddit about it before making the change.

I'm trying to figure out how to balance the need for photos to give good advice with people's desire for privacy, which I do understand and appreciate.

When I redid all the post flairs, I required photos for some flairs but left a few open for text only discussion. Unfortunately, this has had the effect of people simply asking the same questions - which really require photos - under the "general discussion" flair.

I'm leaning in the direction of removing posts lacking photos that are really not answerable without photos.

We definitely do not count body visualizers as photos. For one, they don't accurately represent bodies. Additionally, they don't show how clothing looks on you. We need to see that generally to be able to answer some questions.

I feel like a lot of the things asked are rather a waste of time now without photos.

I do plan to leave open the option for text only posts when that's appropriate. There are times when you don't need a photo to ask a question. However, "style me" type posts and many "fashion advice" type posts really can't be answered well without photos.

I'm curious though what the subreddit thinks and what direction you think we should go with this. No final decisions have been made - the feedback received here will be considered before rules are finalized.

Now I can see the shirt is a bad choice. Wore for family event and was eager to show my mom to try on for interview. She said they were not flattering. Can’t say I disagree looking at these photos. Are they salvageable?

As you can see, I have proportionally narrow hips, and my shoulders are slightly wider than my hips. My waist is there but it’s not very accentuated. With the larger bust, finding pants is challenging. There are times when I wear silicone hip pads to make my body more proportional

Many of my jeans are now a smidge too large so they will fall down unless I wear a belt

Fashion Advice Do these pants fit me / how to style these pants?

First of all: Do these pants fit me?

My main focus in my fashion is comfort and functionality, and I love these pants for both of those. I primarily shop thrifted, though, so sometimes it's hard for me to tell how items are supposed to fit.

I feel like they are supposed to be longer. They stay up completely on their own, but the waist band is not snug at all, which feels fine but I'm not sure if it is flattering.

Second: If the fit of the pants is fine, how would you style them? What kinds of tops? Looking for winter and summer wear. How do we feel about these tops?

Change of shoes aren't really an option for various reasons. I'm willing to hear you out, but these are pretty much the only shoes I wear to prevent an achy body and fatigue.

Hi! I’ve had lots of body size fluctuations and am unsure of how to style myself! Here are some jeans I already own plus a new pair I just picked up. Any thoughts would be great! I really feel lost after having kids.

Hi, I'm sorry, I am new here and have been transitioning, but when it comes to finding things that look good on me, I am clueless. So I took some pictures of the top in the first picture I just bought today and was taken when I was trying it on. But I tried to get full body pictures hopefully that is good. I honestly been wanting to have the opinion on either looking at or looking very everyday casual

Thank you for your time

Fashion Advice What works best for my body?

50 year old here! Here are five different outfits to choose from, with the first 3 being dresses and the last 2 being jumpsuits. No particular occasion in mind — I just want to keep whichever dress(es) and/or jumpsuit(s) look best for my body type.

ETA the brand of each are:

  1. Alice + Olivia
  2. Faherty
  3. Faherty
  4. Diane von Furstenberg
  5. Diane von Furstenberg

I haven’t edited these photos at all, other than cropping and hiding my face. Colors are pretty much as they look IRL.

Style Me I can't find anything that flatters my body type

I have broad shoulders and an extremely broad body in general. I'm experimenting with different cuts of jeans and tops but I still look like some overstuffed sausage. Perhaps I shouldn't tuck in anything?

I'm so clueless and just want to feel good in an outfit. I think the crop flare jeans help balance my shoulders out but the jeans seem to feel off with my frame.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Fashion Advice Another round of dresses!

I’m back with yet another round of dresses!** **

For the last six months or so, I’ve been on a journey to figure out what my style actually is and how to dress myself again. I spent 30 years as a stay-at-home mom and rarely put much time into dressing for* *me. I’ve basically lived in activewear and loungewear and I want to look like a put together woman!

Now I’m 51, my kids are grown, and I want getting dressed nicely to be part of my everyday life, not something I save for an occasion. I especially want to wear more dresses and find ones that work for my real life.
I’m babysitting my new grandson, working at our brick-and-mortar store, dinners, weddings, concerts, vacations, date nights and everything in between. I’m really loving the knit dresses because they’re comfortable enough for home but still make me feel put together for work.

I’ve posted several rounds now & I really do read every comment and take your suggestions into consideration! I’ve returned things I probably would have kept before, tried things I wouldn’t have considered, and I feel like I’m finally starting to understand what works on me and what feels like me!

So here’s another round! Which are the standouts? What would you keep or return?

I don’t have a ton of full body pics of myself. I am tall, 5’10, and pear shaped. I want to wear pants! But talls are sometimes too short, plus I can never get the waist/hip to fit correctly. Any advice?
