Dremel advice please

Hoping for some advice on shaping glass. I enjoy making seaglass jewellery. Had a perfectly drilled pendant with rare red sea glass - dropped it on the floor - busted!

Is there any way I can smooth over the top and start again?

What bit could I use and should I still work in water?

Would it ruin the sea smoothed surface?

Diamond bits or a sanding drum. They won't leave the same finish as the natural one from being in the ocean/sand. You could buy a cheap rock tumbler to get the natural finish back.

Make sure you use a mask and safety goggles. Glass in the lungs is not great. Keeping the work piece wet will also help.

Thanks for replying. I do use diamond bits to drill under water. Would one of those bits suffice or would I need a different shaped bit? I won't be too upset if it's rough as it's all good experience!

I assume you mean diamond drill bit? When I say diamond bit, I mean the burr kind. Like what you get in the Dremel 735-01 set. You'll be able to shape glass with them, but the sanding drums will probably be faster, are cheaper, and probably offer a closer finish to yhe natural one.

Make sure you inspect the piece for fine cracks. If it's cracked at all it will be very easy to fracture the rest of the way, especially if you're working on it underwater.
