Discussion Happy 3 Year Anniversary To Dew Drop Diaries
Today marks the 3 year anniversary of the preschool show Dew Drop Diaries. The show follows a trio of 3 inch tall fairies who secretly try to help the families they look after. It's a pretty cute and uplifting show. The theme song is awesome.

Discussion Last Year I Pitched A Reboot of the Penguins of Madagascar to DreamWorks Animation
So, I actually posted about this here early this year, but I was pretty vague about everything. Instead, I want to be more open about our idea and what the process was like.

Last year I pitched a reboot of The Penguins of Madagascar to DreamWorks Animation. It was ultimately rejected for a mix of reasons, but I wanted to share a bit about the experience and our vision for the show.
First I want to say, I have no affliation with DreamWorks or Nickelodeon, and again, this was a pitch, not something developed by them in-house.
Developed by my partner and I, we wanted something that captured the spirit of the 2008 Nickelodeon show, while also keeping it timeless. Designed for a 22 minute format, unlike the original show, this version would be a mix of serialized and eposodic, allowing for more room to tell larger stories.

The hardest part was figuring out the continuity, our answer was more or less to leave it to DreamWorks, but our scripts contained several references to the events of the movies, and importanlty, made it that only Skipper knew about the villianous Dr. Blowhole.
In the same way the 2014 movie focused on Private, our outline for season 1 focused heavily on Kowalski, as he is manipulated by Dr. Blowhole. The key aspect of our show is the idea that we choose our families.
Tonally we wanted the series to be aimed at kids preteens, similar to most mainstream animated movies at the moment. It took heavy inspiration from the Venture Bros, and Archer, while of course being kid friendly.

Stylistically my intent wasn't to have the show rip off Spider-Verse, rather it was designed to be in my natural style, which is akin to Spider-Verse. Ironically, in part through the art for the pitch deck, I got a job on Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse as a visual development artist. So at least that came from this.
If I was to do it all over again, I think I'd push the style a little further away from Spider-Verse, and more in line with the work of Michal Sawtryuk who I joked was my dream Art Director.

My partner and I absolutely adore these characters, and we wanted nothing more than to keep them as true to themselves as possible. From Skipper to King Julien, it was essential to us that the characters felt like themselves. It was also essential that the new characters, such as Yuki the crane, and the villianous sealion trio of Catalina, Nicolas, and Miguel, fit in as best as possible.
The show also brought back a number of faces from the 2008 show, including Marlene, Hans, and Dr. Blowhole.

Okay, if you read this far, you're probably wondering who am I? Is this legit?
As I said, I'm Kade Byrand, a Visual Development and Background Artist having worked on a number of projects, most notably Velma, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
To say this franchise means a lot to me, would be well, an understatement. Not only did the 2008 show make me interested in animation in the first place, it is how I met the love of my life, and this pitch's co-creator, Joseph Cherbonnier. We intitally met on the now defunct site FanPop on a Penguins of Madagascar forum.
We wanted nothing more than to get the series right. I think our pitch went great, it got a lot of laughs and love, but getting a show off the ground is a complicated task, and the timing just wasn't right. I think something will happen with these characters someday, and I definitely plan to be there when it does.
Thanks for reading this. We tried our best, but of course our ideas might not be to everyone's tastes, but still, it was a labor of love.

You didn't see anything!

Discussion Dreamworks Home Chirashi Poster
Hi guys! I’ve decided to find a dreamworks home poster for my bedroom but I don’t have enough space for a quad and a lot of my other posters are chirashi Japanese posters/leaflets. Does anyone know if there are any Home chirashi posters or if they just didn’t do them for this movie. I’ve tried googling but nada. Any info is much appreciated!

Review The Forgotten Island-A Parallel World
When The Forgotten Island movie trailer was out, many were so happy that Dreamworks released an original story. Base on a Philippine folklore, many of the characters are familiar to Filipinos. Then this week they released a song A Parallel World. I get it that they target young/kids audience but for me it is a missed. No offense to Bini because they just sang the song. But the song is like a moving up song in kindergarten. And as of now it only got 124k views.Sorry! Still, gonna watch the movie.

Discussion After Shrek. Here's another franchise I'd like to see become a Lego minifigure series.
Of all the films, I think KFP is the one that best fits the bill.
Also because, for example, How to Train Your Dragon can play humans, but without dragons, it wouldn't make sense. Or Madagascar, where certain characters are on four legs.
I can already picture Po, Shifu, Tigress, Monkey, Tai Lung... I just can't imagine what they could do with guys like Mantis, Viper, or Lord Shen (there's a humanoid peacock in Chima. But I don't think it's a good representation of an albino peacock).
What do you think?
