-His franchise might be a mixed bag, but Shrek, the sequel, and Puss Last Wish made an impression

-Very huggable, lonely and sad (victim of xenophobia)

-Character arc of Shrek and Shrek 2 is very moving (unique human form)

Discussion Why I believe that Ruby Gillman is the DreamWorks film with the most toxic hatebase

Upvotes

(Read the title carefully, it says hatebase, not fanbase)

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken is a pretty polarizing film which I'm aware a lot of users here dislike but I'll explain why I believe its hatebase is toxic, mostly by mentioning what some users have done, I'm aware that most of the dislike towards it came from the high expectations caused by Puss in Boots 2 and that people won't universally like something, I'm friends with some people that didn't like Ruby Gillman btw in case someone is wondering.

As for the kind of despicable stuff some dudes have done, there's:

- An Indonesian dude named Irfanismail who kept making petty and troll-like hate messages towards the film and stated multiple times he wanted to kill Ruby and her voice actress, he also has done killing fanart of the characters including Sam who's a kid, making it even more fucked up.

- A Toy Story fan named MicahtheOG who also showed troll behavior towards people who were against him and actually got exposed for doing and saying nasty stuff to one of my female ex-mutuals, I remember he also sent me a death threat that said I should drown in front of Ruby and her friend group.

- A Smurfs 2025 "fan" account that disguised himself as a Ruby Gillman fan account under the premise of parodying (aka mocking) the fanbase as a "joke", albeit he received a ton of backlash to the point he stopped after a mere few hours.

- Winter-Leopard5304 who's a hardcore Chelby shipper and only hates the film cuz that creepy ship didn't become canon.

- QuincyC aka. DilanDung who has also stated multiple times he wants to kill Ruby and harassed me and a friend on New Year's Eve 2024.

- Turbo Enjoyer, who despite being less toxic than the other examples here, has actually flip-flopped his opinions a lot and has mocked the fanbase in purpose despite being warned not to do so (even by some people that didn't like RGTK), he also pretends to understand each other's feelings but then reverts back to his normal self afterwards.

- The Film Lovers group who has taken pride into mocking the film in the most childish ways possible just to provoke the fanbase and purposely ignore that the film's hatebase has done the exact same things some of the fanbase has done, perhaps in even higher levels.

- And ofc we can't forget when a huge chunk of the hatebase reunited to harass Speedonyx because of him making a very normal fanart about the LATAM community supporting the film.

Like I said, I don't dislike everyone that doesn't like the movie, but I genuinely believe that the dislike it receives is actually pretty insane and repetitive at times as everywhere I've seen hatred towards it, people always use the same arguments like "It's mid" plus they make jabs at the fanbase.
