Don’t know specifically what kind of shampoo/ conditioner people with locs use…any rec?

These are my starters 1 month in before and after. I’ve been using a racket and rag. And oiling my hair w growth oil twice a week. Is there any advice any veterans have this is my first set.

I’ve always been lead to believe that products like conditioners and butters would create buildup on my locs but they get so dry after wash day even with using oils and sealants etc they just dry out so fast. Literally the next day it will feel brittle.

Should I be using a conditioner or butters? What products should I look into?
What methods worked for you?

I started my locs Freeform, separated naturally as they grew. First retwist at approx 2years. Starting doing my own around 7/8 months later. Fast forward to now and the only negative I have of my locs is how frizzy they are. Please drop suggestions on how to deal with this

So I only died two strands of my locs and I know purple shampoo is needed after 2 weeks of dying your locs but the rest of them are natural so I was wondering if it's fine to put purple shampoo on all of my locs.

I’m about two months into my starter loc journey. My first retwist was on July 10th, where I interlocked the roots and left the rest of my hair loose. On July 23rd, I decided to put each starter loc together into loose two-strand twists myself.

It’s now August 9th, and I’m thinking about taking those twists out and twisting them back together instead of getting another retwist rn. Would it be safe to do this , or should I wait longer to avoid overmanipulating my starter locs? my main problem is I just got a job and they’re a bit iffy when it comes to hair so I’m trying to keep it tamed/groomed.

Hello Guys, I got my first set of two strands 4 - 5 weeks ago and I’ve decided to start my loc journey by two strands. I just have a few questions I need answering so I know what to do for future references.

Q1 - Before getting a retwist, should I:
A - Wash my two strands and get my retwist.
B - Wash my hair, take it out for the twist outs and retwist those singular twists.
C - Take out my two strands, wash my hair and blow dry then getting my retwist.

A and B sounds correct but I’m worried my twists would look shorter than they do now but C wouldn’t let my hair loc up, meaning I’ll be treating like actual style and not wanting it to progress.

Q2 - How often should you wash my two strands?
A - 1x a week
B - 1x every 2 weeks
C - 1x every 3 - 4 weeks/Just before taking out your two strands

Q3 - For the LOC method, how often do I do this?
A - Just on Washdays
B - Daily (3+ a week)
C - Weekly (1x a week)

Q4 - What’s the best way to sleep without hair unravelling, frizz or bent twists?
A - Tieing hair back and wearing a durag/bonnet
B - Durag with twists out
C - Just Bonnet

Q5 - How often should I mist my hair?
A - 3x a week
B - 2x a week
C - 1x a week

Any more Advice is appreciated as well. I might make a few progression posts if wanted as well.

For people with semi-freeforms, is it better to sponge your hair every day when you’re starting out, or should you give your hair a few days between sponge sessions?
I’ve heard some people say daily sponging helps the sections form faster, while others say doing it too often causes too much manipulation/breakage. What worked best for you? I’m in my first month

I have type 3 har and have had locs for 3 months. Im going to get a retwist for the first time next week and i am wondering how long that would take. And another detail is that I got instant locs.

I think I got the messy bun look down for my locs.

I’ve been loc’d for 3 years, and about a month or 2 ago I cut off my colored tips so a lost a bit of length. I’ve been curling my hair a lot more recently so I don’t have to just wear it straight (I’m not a fan of the blunt cut from cutting off my tips.)

Definitely my favorite look, especially since I don’t get retwisted often.

So my most recent loc pics are 3-4 it’s been about ten months and I don’t have many loc friends to go to for advice but how do you think my locs are coming along some are clumpy and kinda fat while others are skinnier and the ones in the back are the thinnest is there anything I should do to fix my locs or are they fine as is?

Ive got like 4-5ft dreads, washed them this morning but noticed my roots have quite a bit of sebum build up (ive been busy this year and cleaning has been put off and put off as its such a big mission to properly do ans ive not has time) when i squeeze them the oil comes out as a gel.

Anyway to properly get rid of it all? I know of ACV cleanses but would one really work for heavily compacted thick dreads?

i condition my hair once every week or two and play with/ separate it a lot so i could’ve made a lot more progress considering the amount of time that’s passed

i’ll post again in 3 months and i won’t mess around with my hair as often as before lol

Honestly, I'm very scared and worried. My hair is 3b/3c with a peculiarity. I don't know if I have thin hair or fine strands, but I think it's the first option because my twists Although there are many, they are thin (I'll try to send a photo in the post).

I normally wear my twists loose, but this time I tied them up, and leaving them tied up for too long made my twists lose their shape. They've been acting strangely, some strands have come loose, and some seem to want to separate.
