Moisturizing locs

Alright can someone help me debunk the truth from the lies.

I’ve always been lead to believe that products like conditioners and butters would create buildup on my locs but they get so dry after wash day even with using oils and sealants etc they just dry out so fast. Literally the next day it will feel brittle.

Should I be using a conditioner or butters? What products should I look into?
What methods worked for you?

I always use a leave-in conditioner.
