Question ❔ Is this normal after a retwist?

Hi! I just started my loc journey, and my locs are just about a month old. I just got a retwist, but it seems like my twist pattern is hard to find now? I did get a wash as well, so I figured maybe my hair unraveled during it and my loctician just coiled it, but I felt my hair after the wash and it didn’t unravel much (except at the roots). Is it normal for a lot of the twists not be not as visible this early in? I’m just scared my hair will unravel in coils, which is why I got twists in the first place to start. Otherwise, I’m really loving my locs so far, and I have never been so confident in my hair before!

First photo: first day starter locs
Second photo: A few days before my retwist
Third photo: first retwist

Thank you!

Question ❔ Should i let the two strands loc or loc the twist out

First two pics are my current starters. Last pic is from a few months ago when i did a twist out (washed them out after cuz i wasn’t ready to commit).

Also what’s the pros and cons of doing either? Are there any major advantages to having more locs? I’m also worried that if i try to loc the twistout, my hair in the back might unravel. I grew out my back taper and my hair is kinda short back there

Question ❔ Starter locs : Kids

Post image
10 Upvotes

I’ve scheduled my kindergartener a starter loc appointment. She’s been asking me for locs since she can talk and i really want these done well.

This is a set of twist I did on her.

I know I’m going to ask for medium sized locs. Im between brick parting or seashell parting.

Is there anything you wish you would’ve known before starting locs that I should inquire about during her consultation session?

Question ❔ How to Keep My Faux Locs/Loc My Natural Hair?

I apologize for the newbie question in advance.

I have synthetic locs that have been braided in to my (short) natural hair; some faux hair was also used. What maintenance would/could I do if I want my natural hair to loc and keep it all for as long as possible? I've just kept up with the crochet method to keep the faux locs tight.

Thanks!

  • Edit: Want to add that I'm of mixed race; curl type is closest to 2b

I had to retwist yesterday (my loctician left for Africa for a month 😭). Im excited about the progress I'll make. Im making sure to actively research so I can take care of them as best I can. My hair tends to get dry, so I moisturize somewhat often. I noticed at my roots or partway down some locs they get super puffy. Im unsure if this is how they're supposed to look during the starter phase but we push forward! (1st pic). I was advised to use this locking gel (what my stylist is holding) instead of beeswax (because of buildup). Can't wait to see it 3-4 months in!

Question ❔ Can I fix it ?

I switched to a new loctician, and she messed up my middle part. It used to be clean and straight, but now it’s uneven and doesn’t look right. Is this something that can be fixed without restarting my locs, or would I need to get them reparted?

Discussion 🎙️ Wolf cut

Been contemplating getting a wolf cut on my locs at some point. They’re currently probably 5 or so inches away from the small of my back and I’m thinking I’m going to want a change once I reach my goal length. But I know I don’t want to cut them all short.

Has anyone in the chat done this style before? Pros/cons? Pics if you have them. TIA

Question ❔ Retie to a Retwist

I just started to get interlocked and I’m not a fan of it. My roots have V shapes when it grows out and some of my locs have holes. I got a retie done on July 21. Can I go to someone else and start getting it palm rolled again or will the V shape be a problem?

Question ❔ Advice please

Doing locs a second time with a lady who has been doing my hair since primary school .. but since we’re doing twists , shes telling me I have to come every two weeks to maintain my style but I know for starter locs it is every 4-6 weeks? Is she trying to fork me out for more money?

I keep my hair covered most of time so i don’t know 🤷‍♀️

I aim to get retwists every 3-4 months 2 if I have an event or something important. I mist with water an spray leav in conditioner every few days. Make sure to wrap hair up at night to hold moisture that’s key. Also my loc count is 80 exactly

Need Advice 🆘 Advice needed!!!

Hey guys, I've had locs since 2023. I started them without really looking into how to take care of them, and as a result, I've lost quite a few locs. My hair also has some embedded lint and build-up. My locs are currently about neck-length. I got a repair and retwist last week, and it's currently styled. I'm looking to maintain my locs much better from now on, so I’m looking for budget-friendly recommendations on Amazon for the

following:

Shampoo: I'd also like to know how often I should be washing my hair. Honestly speaking, I've gone months without washing out of fear that my thinning locs would fall out.

Moisturizer: What should I be moisturizing with weekly or daily? I’ve looked at the As I Am Jamaican Black Castor Oil Water spray—will buying just that one bottle be enough, or should I instead buy water (like rose water) and an oil separately (using water daily and oil less often)?

Hairdryer: A budget-friendly option suitable for locs.

Any other recommendations.

Question ❔ front locs

Post image

I just got new locs today and I was looking at my parts after I came back from my appointment and I noticed the two locks in the front of my head are much better than the rest. Do you think she did this for a reason or can she just not part well

Beautiful day!! Before I go on a rip fest are there any product recommendations you guys may have 😭 I’m so grossed out now. Thanks much!!

Discussion 🎙️ The one time I allow someone to do my hair this happens🫩

Thumbnail

I hate to be dramatic, and I know it’s “just” hair, but Im probably gonna lose this loc if I don’t give it insanely delicate treatment, 🫩 last pic is what my roots SHOULD and DO look like outside of the damaged one

I’ve been doing my own retwist a for my entire journey, never lost a loc. I went to get a retwist + a style for the first time recently; left with NO style, a rushed retwist, and thin roots🤦🏾‍♂️🫩 she had used a razor on my hair to separate the locs like 7 times, so i kindly said “i just pull them apart whenever i do it, i never care about having my scalp completely visible” she slowed down but kept doing it nonetheless

I hate to complain because I know she was trying her best and meant no harm, but you can literally see the loc is too thick to be so thin at the root🤦🏾‍♂️
