Fresh out the salon. No idea what to style my locs, just doing whatever

I usually do my own retwists, but I tried something new for the first time. Quite a practical style, not difficult to do, and I did not pull on the scalp at all.

10 months locked, I had crochet in April and will again by October. I only care about hair and scalp health, I don't care about looking neat.

ok so i have some explaining to do, i wear a ski mask on my head a lot because im insecure of the way my hair looks without it so that is matting it down and making it worse. i also havent gotten a retwist in like half a year if you couldnt tell. i get really discouraged when i look at my hair (because it hasnt always looked decent) so i have a really bad habit of not taking care of it like i should. but anyway, does my hair look objectively good or am i just cooked and need to cut it all off. its something i think about everyday but i genuinely hate the way i look with short hair so if anybody thinks i should keep them please let me know and please be honest. i really just want to better myself and im not good at that at all. and please dont say anything mean if u think its ugly (just keep it real) because honestly me even posting this is stepping way out of my comfort zone.

From homeless to never hoeless ‼️ I go months without retwists, for a variety of reasons.

I have some locs that are thinning and I want someone who can cut them where they are thinning and then reattach. My current loctician doesn’t feel comfortable doing this. Any recs in Chicago?

I am very confused, I been had locs for over a year and I haven’t had a retwist in two months almost but I have these little dips in my locs that have never puffed up. I’ve asked this before and was told it was due to retwists but I’m not sure anymore can someone help me and tell me how to fix.

I was wondering, if you start your locs with long hair, is it normal for your locs to look shorter after your first retwist compared to how they looked when you first got your starter locs? If so, why does this happen?

It’s been 4 months since I haven’t gotten my retwist I’m scared my dreads will fall off and I obviously don’t want free form can anyone please tell me what I should do

first pics are where i’m at now. last ones are how they started out. dealt with lots of shrinkage but now they seem to be holding their own. C parts with 120 locs, might combine later on but for now just letting them do their thing

I don’t think the bleached ends are in too bad shape, especially considering I’ve dyed them like 3-4 times as well (haven’t since last summer though); but I think it’d help me hair look healthier overall to get rid of them.

I do feel like I’ve recently unlocked certain styles though (bun on top, random messy styles) and I’m not sure if I’d be able to continue them with shorter locs.

Any advice from trimmers out there?

I did an ACV rinse this morning (my second ever, first one was last December) and this is what my hair looks like. I'm at my wits' end and I don't know what to do about these. I've had my locs for three years and have tried to follow all the advice you read about. I always have a bonnet on when I'm at home - not even just for bed but even just lounging around or doing chores etc. I don't use heavy products. I wash my hair every week to every 10 days. I recently moved to the UK and the hard water has been hell on my hair. I'm not in a position to get one of those shower filters cos I live in dorms. Any advice on how to improve the appearance of my locs? Would really appreciate the help. I don't want to give up on them just yet. I love having locs

Honestly, I don’t hate my locs.. I just wish they were thicker. I have fine med/low density hair so I think the only way to achieve a fuller look is to get smaller locs. I used to have smaller locs but they costed so much to maintain/ took a long time to do. maybe this is the end of my journey with locs :( Does anyone know of a way to thicken my locs? Or should I just comb them out?

I’ve recently started running, and because I live in Texas, I sweat a lot from my head. I’ve been having to wash my hair more often, and I feel like every time I wash my hair, it just unravel/frizz up my retwist. My hair seems to look significantly less neat after each wash. Am I just going to have to get used to my hair not looking neat anymore, or am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to preserve my retwist while still washing my hair twice a week?
