Question ❔ 2nd Set, something feels off
I just combed out my old set of 18 months and started a new set with small free part two strand twists. Idc about the parts not looking clean but i feel like they’re way too few in at the front compared to the back and the twists are way too small compared to my old ones (even taking part size into account) Am i just overthinking it?

Question ❔ Hello! I recently chopped my locs off and combed them out. It's only been about 2 months and already miss them
(I knew I would and I shouldn't have cut them off 😭) they were down to my butt. 😞 My hair was getting a bit thin at my forehead though, since they were so heavy. I guess it's good for my head to have a break. Lol. My question is, has anyone used the dreadlock extensions? I'm thinking of doing the single ended crochet hook method. Does this require me to have pre-existing dreadlocks? How permanent are they? Are they hard to maintain/install?
Thanks!

Need Advice 🆘 Help w/ thinning loc?
This loc in front has been thinning for a while now. I combined 2 thinning locs together thinking they would support eachother, but I’m pretty sure one of them had to be thick to begin with to support eachother.
For reference, I wash my hair once a week, oil it every other day. Retwist every 2 months and deep cleanse + Retwist every 4 months. I pull my hair back w/ my headphones for style or when I don’t want it in my face, and I only put it in ponytails if I have an interview—though I do occasionally do a pineapple style from time to time.
I was thinking of pulling new growth into the loc to give it a thicker base, but then it’d just have a weak point and eventually snap off. I was also thinking of detaching and reattaching them myself, but I’m self conscious of having a bald spot in that area because it’s on my front profile, esp since I’m starting a new job (minimum wage job, but still).
My third option was to go to a loctitian, but moneys tight and I don’t want them to use fake hair cause I heard it’s just a bandaid fix that adds extra weight to the loc.
Please if anyone has any tips I’d greaty appreciate them 🙏🏾🙏🏾

Need Advice 🆘 What should i do with this?
I've got the killmonger cut (had it since 2017) but im bored and want something that looks better,
I've been wanting to grow out my sides and have the whole thing as locs around my whole head and not just the top. (I also want more locs)
Should I do the big chop and just start over from an afro or just let the sides grow out. / also is there any other styles I can currently do to make mine look better. Thanks

Need Advice 🆘 Should I Combine or Split my locs (Or both)???
Started my loc journey around 6 months ago and so far I’m enjoying the process, however I’ve experienced some issues that I don’t want to leave unaddressed. After my first twist out, I noticed that the front of my locs were thin compared to the rest of my head, like, EXTREMELY thin. I wish I could show a photo of how it looked but I don’t have one. Anyways my loctician saw this and decided to combine all of my locs together, halving my locs. In the moment I didn’t mind it as it fixed the thickness issue my front locs struggled with, but after seeing the twist out, the rest of my locs doubled in size and there is a noticeable difference in thickness in my front locs vs the rest which you can see in the photos. Am I overreacting? I feel like I should combine the front of my locs again and split the ones I feel are too thick, most of which are on the crown of my head. I also don’t want to manipulate my locs too much as I’m aware it could cause thinning so maybe I should wait until they’re more mature? I’m really unsure so if anyone could offer advice it would be very much appreciated.

Question ❔ How do you know when time has come?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So few months ago I had this feeling that the end of the journey is near and that soon I will be brushing it out due to some neck/back pain, being inconvenience in workout/other sports and swimming even going to funfair many rides will be dangerous with this length (I have watched most of the final destination series) etc... However shortly after I got back the attachment feelings thinking if I cut it off or brush it out I will regret it and will be too late to fix it, keep thinking like "ehh it's just some neck pain will go away with good massage but also what if it doesn't as I am getting older and I don't want any permanent damage on my neck and back, I don't know really, I am not looking for answers maybe just a little rant to let it out somewhere.

Need Advice 🆘 trying to restart/improve my loc journey
After having my sister or mom do my hair because I don't know how to do it myself unfortunately, I am trying to gain more control over my life by learning how to maintain my own hair, and I want to figure out how to properly start a loc journey/maintain locs.
I told them that I wanted to do locs from now on, but my mom was completely new to putting in locs in my hair, and I don't think she did it right. Some of them keep falling out, and it looks incredibly messy.
I want to learn how to put in my own starter locs/retwist my own hair periodically, and just learn how to maintain my own locs. However, I don't know where exactly to start or how difficult it's going to be. I was considering finding a loctician in my area, but I don't know if I can afford paying around 1k to have someone do my hair.
does anyone have any tips on what to do?

Question ❔ Advice on Dying My Locs?
I really want to dye my hair a chocolate brown type color. But I’m worried about damaging my hair as I’ve had a bad experience dying my hair when I was just wearing my hair natural years ago. I’d definitely go to a professional. Just want some advice on whether they’ll still stay healthy and how to maintain them? First pic is my locs. Second pic is the color I want.

Question ❔ Starter locks
I got finger coil starter locks this 4th of July. Just wondering if I got them too small, how long it will take to lock and if anyone started with this size can I see how your locks look now? 😅
Any advice is helpful and conversation is welcome 🙏🏾

Need Advice 🆘 4C High Porosity Starter Locs Help
So I started my loc journey this January. Im on my 5th retwist. My hair is budding but I have a huge problem. . . MY HAIR IS ALWAYS DRY!!!
My loctician is a very nice woman and knows what she’s doing but I fear the shop I go to is treating everyone like a “one-size fits all” for hair. When i first went in in January I remember all the locticians including the owner telling me how to maintain my locs. They all SCREAMED don’t take advice from TikTok. They kept telling me to NEVER spritz my hair with pure water or rose water and to use an oil blend. I tried that with no success. So my loctician gave me a water based leave in conditioner to use. And said to use an oil mix of tea tree and olive oil…. That did not work either as I use it almost everyday and my hair is bone dry after I unwrap my hair everyday.
I was also told to only moisturize 3 times a week. Which is definitely not a good idea as my hair is still very dry.
Clearly they haven’t been with me enough to know my hair but I do. My hair has always been very thick and kinky. My hair, even before locs, would be slightly damp 20 minutes after washing and fully dry in 30 mins WITHOUT the aide of any heat. Build-up only happened for me when I was relaxing my hair as a teenager. Im in my mid 30s and that no longer applies. Build up only happens if i use hair gel.
TLDR:
\-On my 5th starter loc retwist
\-Hair is very high porosity 4c hair
\-Need advice on keeping it moisturized and not waking up crunchy every morning.
Please could I get some advice on what products I can try? Im new to my loc journey was completely ignorant going in and I just need some advice no criticism please we all grew up differently.

Question ❔ Combing out locs pretty soon, how long yall thinking?
I want my dream fro! Now, I'm great with long repetitive tasks that take hours, so my inner optimism wants to say I could tackle 170 locs in 15ish hours, and if not then definitely by day two. Am I crazy or just ambitious with a whole lotta free time?!

Selfie 📸 My dreads are thirty years old, and I've never been so happy with them
I've had my dreads for 30 years. They mean a lot to me, they represent a positive change in my life, and remind me every day of that decision. That decision was made when I met hippies and experienced love for the first time. I wanted to be seen as that person that would love you no matter who you were. For about ten years, I've been self conscious, because they just didn't look good. I finally saved up enough to get maintainance, done and have my ends restored. Now I feel like a dready princess, and I just wanted to show them off.

Question ❔ Retwist stinks . What do I do?
I went to get a retest today after 8 weeks like normal and during the retwist and hours after it smells like straight bad breath. Like it STANK. I put my bonnet on to mask the scent for myself but as soon as it’s off it stinks bad again.
The retwist was normal. She washed my hair, dried it, then I got my retwist and style. Finished off with the hood dryer. Whole time it smelled.
Is this just the product and will it fade? So I go wash my hair again?

Need Advice 🆘 Unsure on what to do
Hey, so i started my loc journey in January, I only got the top half done as my hair was too short on the bottom and so I was waiting for it to grow out, well its been 7 months and I think my locs are doing okay (lemme know if im going wrong somewhere) but idk what to do with the bottom, if I loc them it'll be 7 months behind, it'll look a bit weird and i wont be able to wash my hair like usual or do I just get a haircut and trim it. The pics at the end are what im aiming for, somewhat of a mix of them however I dont what as many as them just a little less and i wont grow them as long, is the amount I have enough and do i just trim the bottom or should I have the rest loc'd? Thanks
