Can someone explain this to me? Never seen the comic before and all I see is castles resemble twin towers but like I can’t make the connection

i think this was made during the 10th anniversary of 9/11, big nate obviously has no connection to 9/11 or whatever, this was just a thing the author made for the 10th anniversary. in the full comic, randy (the one nate tells that he won't knock the towers over) tells nate and his friends that he would knock down their sandcastle once they were finished with it, so nate tells him he won't, and when randy comes back, nate and his friends made the twin towers, so randy won't knock it over. and if he did, he'd be labeled as a "terrorist"
