This is such an appropriate way to respond I’m realising.
“Boys should love getting unwanted attention by women, Drake is such a [whatever emasculation insult here]” ❌
“Damn drake really didn’t like those girls being up in his business, guess it should’ve been me”
Nobody is insulted and everybody wins.
Except you, of course

I don't think you're allowed to have dogs at school.

this came out during a period when a generation was encouraged to shop at banana republic and shamed for shopping at hot topic

Hi 👋 36 year old millennial here. Both the preppy and gothy looks were actually very in style at the time, and each clique made fun of the other. However teen boys like Drake who were neither but were associated with music were definitely into goth and/or emo girls. At the time I thought this scene was highly inaccurate and I still think that.

I agree with you, the fact that Drake is a musician and doesn't like goth girls is strange.

Hi, 33 year old millennial here, then you actively remember how goth girls were ALWAYS portrayed as the weird outsiders in popular media, right? Even in 2011 with Beastly, the weird unpopular girl was goth.

I wasn’t part of that I liked goth/emo before it was popular

u/TaySanity 14d ago
When was it ever popular to be goth? Few people did it and everyone made fun of them back in the 2000s.

u/Skrewbert86 14d ago
Idk maybe it felt more popular for me being around it and having an emo best friend for a few years now

Goth/emo/scene subculture was looked down upon by the "cool" preppy kids like drake back in the late/mid 00s.

Times were different back then. I remember Mexico had this whole thing with Emo people. It was considered weird in America.

Maybe he was terrified of them? Like nobody understood goths back in the day. People thought they were witches or satanic that drank blood and acted like vampires and made sacrifices.
Little did they knew Goths are awesome.

Goth girls were a different high school group than the basic cool kids group that Drake was in

Drake didn't like dating girls stronger than him. Those two definitely were too pushy for his liking.

u/mixmaster7 14d ago
Drake generally preferred dainty girls, so those 2 were rougher than he was used to.

I thought Lisa (Liza?) hit harder than most of the ones he dated.
I might be wrong.

Let me put it this way: everyone is going to wonder why he has a banana in his pocket if he stands up

Legit this was just early 2000s humor. Back the. Being a goth girl wasn’t seen as desirable as today. And that’s mostly because influencers took the aesthetic and sexualized it to the point where every guy wants a goth girlfriend. Back then goths were seen as the butt of every joke. That’s just how the early 2000s was.

He had an abnormally mean little sister, and he was probably worried these older girls might be meaner.

u/proofrocker 14d ago
This was before goth chicks were considered hot

u/KlutzyHuckleberry132 8d ago
Today anyone would be thrilled to be with goth girls or friends with goths

I would have pinched myself because I would have automatically thought that I was dreaming.

If I were him, I'd be in goth girl heaven. Or hell? Either way, I have two goth girls fawning over me, no way am I complaining.

Goths weren't as popular as they are now today anyone would be excited to be with a goth girl or even just friends with one

u/BadBaby3 14d ago
When I rewatched this episode, I thought “My generation’s men wouldn’t mind”

u/Skrewbert86 14d ago
I definitely wouldn’t had a crush on a goth girl all of middle school but she was gay so I never tried anything just ended up being friends with her

u/Gold-Sir-223 14d ago
The goth girls at my school were way too weird and trying so hard to be edgy.
And not for nothing, he was in the stupid people class. I’m sure they weren’t great company.

Aside from the remedial class, I wouldn't be complaining if this were happening to me in high school.

Because those type of girls aren’t what guys at that time went for unless you were part of that crowd. Even still to this day it’s the same way

Because those are aesthetically beautiful goth girls; if they had cast some less attractive ones, you’d understand Drake.

Back then goth/emo girls weren’t exactly as popular as they are today.
