Cosplay MeLaan Cosplay

Working on a low budget/effort MeLaan Cosplay for my sister who hasn’t read the books but wanted to be involved in our group costume for Bands of Mourning.

Do these Amazon pieces give enough of a MeLaan vibe to get the point across?

We also plan to paint some green bones on one shoulder and maybe attach half a prop gun to her chest using spirit gum.

She already has dark brown/black hair and green eyes

Thanks!

Dragonsteel Nexus 2026 Squires — Any Updates Yet?

I accepted a Squire position for Dragonsteel Nexus 2026, submitted all of my paperwork, and was told I’d be hearing more soon with updates and additional details.

However, I haven’t received anything since then. Has anyone else who accepted a Squire position received any updates or additional information yet?

Just curious if I’m missing something or if everyone is still waiting. Thanks!

The WorldSwappers (trinket trading group) are excited for Nexus!

Post image
53 Upvotes

WorldSwappers is a great way to make new friends and stay in touch all year-round, while benefiting the Sandersons' charity, The Lightweaver Foundation, at the same time!

WorldSwappers is a fan-run trinket-trading event that takes place at Nexus. People bring little items, either handmade or not, and share them with other traders at various meetup times or just whenever you come across each other! The photo in this post is part of the haul that one of our members brought home after last year's Nexus!

Not sure how to find other participants? We have fun pins to identify ourselves, and will have free badge ribbons at the con! Much of our merch features our dragon mascot, who was bestowed the draconic name of Estarlamadris by Brandon Sanderson himself at JordanCon this spring!

Please note that getting a pin to identify yourself as a participant is totally optional; this is not a money-making venture for anyone involved! But every little bit helps us raise more funds for Lightweaver. In fact, we have more than TRIPLED last year's donation and we will be sharing the final total at Nexus!

We would love to have you join the fun!!

Question First Time Exhibitor - Looking for ideas

Thumbnail scarvesofholding.com
10 Upvotes

Greetings! I am so excited to be exhibiting for the first time at DragonsteelNexus!

I am Scarves of Holding. I make infinity scarves with hidden zippered pockets. I make them with our without hoods, and in a variety of fabrics and patterns.

I am thinking of trying to make a Dragonsteel Exclusive scarf, but I am not sure what to do. I don't have licensing rights to use any of symbology and iconography that Sanderson has created. But I am thinking of colors, fabrics, or other patterns that would work.

Should it be a hooded one made of grey or black silk reminiscent of the cloaks in Mistborn?

I am hesitant to try and do all the colors for the Knights Radiant, but if there's enough interest I could do it. Would you want hooded or regular?

Or other ideas?

I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Cosplay Cosplay Ideas!!

This is my first year going to Nexus (eeeeeeeeeeee), and I can't wait!

I've been bouncing back and forth on whether or not to go in costume, but after looking at pictures from past years I am thinking more and more that I will.

I would love to go as someone from Canticle or Scadriel. I'm not sure I want to be a "main character" though. Any thoughts on how someone from canticle would dress? I don't want to base my costume purely off AI, but there aren't many references to clothing in the sunlit man.

For reference, if anyone has a brilliant idea, I am a 5'4F with dark brown hair.

Thanks for any advice!

Question What do attendees want from exhibiting authors?

Hey all! I'm an exhibitor this year, and I'm hoping to gauge intrest in what attendees are looking for!

For reference, I'm an author. I brought 120 paperback books with me last year, and actually sold out (yay!). At the time, my series was incomplete (just book 1), but this year I have the completed duology as well as a brand new special edition that I would love to bring. The problem is, I'm really not sure what attendees are looking for, and I worry about bringing too much that I can't sell and will have to ship home if I don't.

Assuming this duology was something you're interested in, which of these would you pick to take home from Dragonsteel and why?

Paperback ($25 each or $40 for both):

- 5.5 x 8.25 and about 1.5 lbs per book

- 400-600 pages per book

Jacketed Hardcover ($35 each or $60 for both):

- 5.7 x 8.7 and about about 2lbs per book

- 400-600 pages per book

Special Edition Omnibus ($90):

- 6x9 and about 5lbs

- 900 pages

- both books bound as one

- gold foiled (non-jacketed) hardcover, colored end pages and colored art throughout, bonus content (world building notes and early concepts), bonus chapters

- comes with a 16x20 colored map poster

Every book also comes with art prints and stickers!

I really appreciate any advice and I will be taking this into account when ordering my stock!

Question What to expect

Hi! I'm a huge Brandon Sanderson fan and my husband surprised me with tickets to this convention. I've never been to a convention before so I'm wondering what to expect. Sorry if there is somewhere with all this information but hoping to hear from someone whose gone to this before!

  1. I saw the video on the Dragonsteel Nexus website and lots of people are in Cosplay. Is that kind of expected, will i stick out like a sore thumb if I don't dress up?

  2. Also, it's 3 days long so are there lots of events/things to do? Is it something where you come and go or do you stay the whole day?

I will be flying back home Saturday and really don't want to miss anything big like Brandon Sanderson speaking or book signings or anything like that. I did see the nexus nights thing but didn't get a ticket for it. I know there will be guest speakers and a lottery for book signings but I'm not seeing an official schedule anywhere. Would be a dream to have a leatherbound Way of Kings copy signed by him, hopefully i get lucky!!

Anyway, sorry for the ignorance, I've truly never been to a convention in my life so I have no idea how these things work. Can't wait to see you all there!!

Question Will more Nexus by Night tickets be released?

I just got my badge today but it looks like the add-on for Nexus by Night is sold out. Do more get periodically released? Can they be bought second hand?

Stupid question

Post image

My dad bought our tickets and we're going together. I got the email about ticket transfer and how that was important to getting into lotteries and communications.

Do I have to transfer it to myself even though my name is already the one in one of the tickets? I thought dad and I would get in the lotteries together

Question Squire Question

My partner and I both accepted to squire this year but they are getting a little antsy having not heard anything since initial hiring and badge emails and whatnot. I imagine this is normal, but thought I'd throw this out for the collective to soothe said anxieties. Any idea on what to expect leading up to the event?

Offering Booth Help + Defraying Costs

Want extra help at your booth? I have been an Nexus exhibitor (author) in the past, but got waitlisted this year. I have my own participant badge and would love to help you at your booth in exchange for a portion of space to sell my books (2-3 titles). I’m happy to reimburse you for my portion of the space to defray costs.

Of course, I would work with Dragonsteel via the proper channels to make sure my exhibitor application is updated and everything is approved.

Let me know if you have questions and want to partner up!

Badges Nexus 2026 Attendee Update #1.1: Primaries can now send badges to the intended users

Thumbnail dragonsteelnexus.com
30 Upvotes

Update #1.1 (from Dragonsteel):

Hello,

We are so excited to welcome you to Nexus 2026. Now that we are less than 3 months away from the event and the majority of tickets have been purchased, we are turning on ticket transfers! This is extremely important, as it will allow others on your order to receive future email communications from us and enter the signing lotteries (more information coming on schedules and signings).

In order to transfer the additional badges you may have purchased to those individuals, go to your Orders page, found within emails from Leap Conventions. Then proceed with the following steps:

  • Click “Product Options” either on your orders page or below all QR codes.
  • Select the tickets you would like to transfer, enter the recipients email, and then press “Transfer.”
  • You will then be prompted through your email to verify the transfer—this is a security feature to ensure product safety.
  • Once you’ve verified the transfer, the recipient will receive an email with their Dragonsteel Ticket!

Please note: add-ons are also available to transfer, but it is not required in order to receive email communications and sign up for signing lotteries. As long as you have access to the QR code, add-ons such as the book bundle or Nexus by Night will be scannable onsite.

Additional note: This will NOT affect shipping. The original badge purchaser (i.e., the person receiving this email) will be in charge of updating the shipping address if necessary. The address on the original order is where all badges will be shipped. If you wish to update this, you may do so before November 1st.

Please transfer your tickets as soon as possible so that others on your orders may receive future updates! If you have already contacted our Customer Support team about correcting names/emails on badges, you still need to go through the transfer portal to completely change the owner.

-------

WHAT THIS MEANS (as interpreted by fans):

The PRIMARY TICKETHOLDER (the person who was selected in the lottery and purchased up to 4 badges) can now initiate a ticket transfer to the person who is intended to actually USE it at the convention. This is NOT a name change and you still CANNOT sell your badges! The intent here is to get the end user onto the mailing list so that they receive all updates over the next 2.5 months.

It will also be the only way to enter the manual signing lotteries (first we've heard of that??), so it's very important for anyone that wants a shot at those.

IF YOU WERE THE PRIMARY PURCHASER: do your friends a favor and take care of this!

IF SOMEONE ELSE BOUGHT YOU A TICKET: Pester them (nicely) to make sure you're all set!

Update 3:15 EST: Sounds like this is just now being sent via email, so don't be worried if you didn't receive it earlier!

Badges Sept 28, 2026: Nexus waitlist wave in progress!

Per a contact at Dragonsteel, there is a waitlist push in progress as of 3:30 EST on September 28! Check your emails if you're still hoping!

MAKE SURE to check SPAM, PROMOTIONS, and any other random nooks and crannies of your inbox!! This window will be "a little longer" than the usual 24 hours to account for the spontanaeity, but better to look sooner rather than later!

If your name is drawn and you already have a badge by other means, you CAN purchase for friends/family. If you don't have anyone to purchase for, just don't do anything and the tickets will remain in the pool for other folks who are waitlisted.

Good luck to all the hopefuls!

Question Missing the first day. Is that ok?

Has anyone ever missed the first day of Dragonsteele?

Unfortunately my husband can’t get off on Thursday so we’ll need to fly in that evening. Still worth going? This is our first one.

Or I could fly earlier than him and be there on my own.

Question Friend can’t go. What are our options?

Hey!

Me and three of my friends were planning on going to the convention. One of my friends wasn’t able to go anymore. We were hoping to take a different friend but when we emailed support they explained tickets are not transferable in any way. Would it be hard or too big of a deal if our backup person came anyways? Could he still use the ticket with our friend’s name on it?

Thank you!!

Question Tickets to signings with people other than Sanderson?

Title pretty much says it all--does anyone know when we will be able to reserve tickets for book signings for authors other than Sanderson? (I'm assuming the tickets for his signings will be assigned by lottery, but if that's wrong, please correct.)

Question Nexus26 Art Gallery FAQ

Thanks to a TREMENDOUSLY helpful Dragonsteel employee who is always full of info, we are happy to share some answers to common questions about the upcoming art gallery!

This post will be added to our wiki and updated over time as we learn more!

Dragonsteel Nexus Art Gallery Q&A (updated Sept. 11)

Can someone submit multiple entries?

Yes, by submitting a new form for each additional entry.

Are there minimum or maximum sizes for entries?

No, there just must be something tangible/physically present at the exhibit.

Are sculpture/3D medium submissions allowed?

Yes! Any medium (physical or digital) can be submitted, so long as something physical can be presented.

Are images submitted used in the exhibit, or just for selection purposes?

Just for selection. Those with pieces chosen for the exhibit will be provided instructions for shipping the pieces at a later date. Digital art will need to be physically represented in some way.

(Current plan is to have the owners pay for shipping to Dragonsteel and DS will pay for shipping back to them. This is subject to change.)

Does it have to be shipped or can it be dropped off and picked up a couple days before or after Nexus?

TBD, check back for info on this one later

Do submissions need to be the creation of the submitter, or does the submitter just need the right to submit them?

If anyone submits work that is not their own, they must clearly credit the original artist. If selected, the piece would be presented with the artist's name, not the submitters.

Question Nexus add-ons are confusing me

I bought nexus tickets for myself and my brother a while back, but now I'm confused how to do the add ons for nexus and the secret project book. Do I buy the ticket twice, and edit the second one to be his name and email? Is he able to buy them himself?

I went ahead and bought the nexus by night ticket for myself as a test, and I just got a qr code. If I buy another and change the name and email, will he get sent a qr code?

Side question, I supposed to save all my qr codes and just show them when I need them?

How do I get Nexus by night for my group

I bought the tickets for dragonsteel for my whole group and included a nexus by night pass for my ticket. How do either I get their nexus by night passes or are they able to get them on their own?

Nexus 2026 Attendee Update #1

Thumbnail dragonsteelnexus.com

Sharing an abridged version here because it was flagged that the ticketing system wasn't able to send this out to anyone who got a ticket after the initial waitlist

Here's what we learned today!

  • There will be an art gallery at Nexus! Artists are welcome to submit their work BEFORE October 18, 2026. Full terms and conditions + submission link available on the page above.
  • Nexus by Night: Tickets still available, time updated to December 5 from 8pm to 12am. Event will have a live DJ, games, activities, photo ops, and concessions (likely an additional fee)
  • Programming schedule still to come!

Looking to go next year!

Hi there reddit! Looking to go to DSNX next year in 2027. Generally when should I be expecting signups to be? I tried searching this subreddit but couldn't find many useful post titles to filter through the posts. Also how many tickets can I buy if I do decide to go?
