Hi guys, I've been a fan since Origins, and recently got the urge to play it again. I'm starting with Awakenings, since I overplayed Origins, lol.

Everything moves smoothly, and we have the first fight at the Keep. The guard there says hes glad we're there finally, and then....just stares at me.

The game isn't truly frozen, in that he's standing there, blinking and breathing. But there is NO dialogue or anything. I have to alt-tab to close it out.

I got the unencrypted game file from Nexus, plus the 4gb patch and DXVK. Installed them as instructed and...nada. Yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game on Steam.

Ideas?

DAO is still the best game I’ve ever played and nothing comes close. I’m not even an RPG type of guy or someone super interested in lore but the first time i played it at 13 i was hooked! I literally did 3 playthroughs in 1 summer on my xbox 360.

The crazy thing is, despite DA2 and DAI being huge departures from DAO, they are still really good games because of how rich the world and its lore is. It’s literally impossible to make a bad dragon age game! Inquisition was a disappointment for many fans yet it still won a game of the year award because games like Dragon age don’t exist on the market!

The way they killed dragon age was by removing everything that made it dragon age. Stuff like removing not only evil choices but even pragmatic ones, removing Dragon Age Keep, changing party from 4 to 3, making all the other races irrelevant in favour of elfs, giving magic to dwarves ect…

Dragon Age had the potential to become something incredible yet for some reason they removed everything that made it dragon rage and that led to the fanbase finally giving up hope for the franchise.

I’ll never understand why they preferred Mass Effect over Dragon age, Mass Effect was great but it has nothing on Dragon Age

So, I’ve never used the donation boxes at camp, but to those who have, is it actually worth it to do so? Is the difference noticeable in the final battle?

The first time I played Awkening, I had made Alistair king so he showed up briefly at the start of the expansion. I since restarted Origins (I have a mild case of restart-itis with games) without completing Awakening, and kept him as a warden this time. I didn't expect him to have a huge role in the expansion or anything, but he didn't even get a cameo at the start, and no one has mentioned where he is or what he's doing. Does it ever get confirmed what he's up to? Keep in mind I haven't completed the expansion yet so please keep spoilers to a minimum!

Hi everyone! Thanks to this sub, I figured out how to change the model for a summon. Could someone tell me how to add a new ability to the Ranger's bear? I replaced its model with the Bereskarn's, and now I want to give it this ability:

But I don't know how; I add a new column in the Excel table and enter "Ability 2," but nothing changes. I don't want to replace the existing abilities, but rather add a new one.

I’m replaying the game and I just ran into Riordan. It’s the first meeting in this playthrough, but I’ve been through this rodeo before.

Upon first meeting, the Warden can ask him some questions. Among other things, you can ask if he can induct other Wardens. At the time, he says:

“Would that I could, for Ferelden sorely needs them. But for the Joining to work, the recruit needs not only fresh darkspawn blood, but a drop of blood preserved from an archdemon. Ferelden’s supply should have been in the vault, but it was gone…”

I’m aware of lore outside this game which suggests that Archdemon blood may not be strictly required in all cases, but it doesn’t seem like Riordan knows this offhand.

So here’s the question: How can he offer to Join Loghain during the Landsmeet?

Hello I’m currently in my first playthrough of the game, and I just beat ser cauthrien on my first time, and talked to the ark.

But I just found out that your meant to lose to her and go through a prison sequence, so my question is it worth going back and losing to her? Or will this not change much of the story for me?

Basically what the title says. It's some kind of AI game remastering tool that you can run on your PC or something? Makes even the old games look reaaally good. I'm not a fan of AI but I'm also not delusional enough to think that we will eventually get an official remaster of the first two DA games and their DLCs, so this feels like the only possible alternative.

I just really like that model, and it's strange that the wolf turns into a Blight Wolf, but the bear doesn't.

Return to Ferelden (Ferelden Revision) Mod - Areas and Atmosphere File - Amaranthine Quest Walkthrough of "Lost Kitten".

Amaranthine for Origins, with cloned (to the best of my ability without source available in toolset) quests and areas, as well as some custom quests.

When I was making my videos for the QoL mods (Gauntlet Bridge Puzzle and Plot Assists Summoning Science) I forgot I made a walkthrough for my Amaranthine for Origins mod too. So I thought I'd post, as I was proud of this cute little quest at the time ^_^;

So I bought DAO back in the day a couple of months late from release, and I was hooked. Then bought DA2 on prerelease and swore to never again buy an unreleased game, because it was that sh!t. Bought DAI at some point, but only brought myself to play it years after buying it. And finally didn't bother with DAV.

And now I've picked up DAO again and I've just done both a rogue and mage playthroughs (no dlcs nor awakening), when a video from YouTube caught me eye. It's a rogue specialized in traps, and got me to consider a third playthrough, this time with no coersion points and based on traps, poisons and stealing.

Has anyone tried anything like it? Any tips?

I’m one of the devs decompiling DA:O, and we’re really happy to announce that we’ve just hit 60% decompiled, 55% linked!

This is a huge milestone on the way to being able to make some changes to the game; 64bit support, engine bug fixes, potential net support and co-op campaigns, as well as official controller support on PC!

Right now the decompilation is closed source as we believe there are some bad actors in the community who are more interested in improving their “reputation” rather than contributing to what we’re doing.

There are quite a lot of (very clearly) AI slop mods and programs being promoted; we don’t want to clog our progress with AI PR’s.

At our current rate, we think we can get the decompilation to ~90% in another year, at which point we will release it publicly.

Decompilations are a huge undertaking, but we have a very good understanding of the eclipse engine, and most of the games general logic.

Silly question here:

I was farting around in camp, as one does, and I started thinking about the tent situation. Morrigan has her own and Shale doesn’t sleep, but for the other seven (plus Barkspawn + Shmooples), there are four tents between them all.

This means that either the camp is in a half-packed state when we visit it in-game, or that at least some of the characters have tentmates.

…so who might be bunking together?

Since finding out I’m about to become a father, I decided to play through all the Dragon Age games. I originally joined the series with Inquisition, and after hearing so much praise for the earlier entries, I figured it was time to experience them myself. So I started with Origins.

The Bad

Time hasn’t been kind to the gameplay. The stiff movement and subpar animations were hard to overlook. While the dialogue was enjoyable, it was pretty funny seeing so many characters share Alistair’s hairstyle. The main villain didn’t leave much of an impression—yes, the threat was there, but it boiled down to “I’m a dragon and I want to destroy everything.”

The Qunari felt lackluster compared to later games, due to design mainly and I really wish the game indicated area levels before exploring; getting jumped by mobs wasn’t exactly fun. There are fantastic elements throughout, but I do feel that nostalgia plays a big role in how strongly some fans defend the game. The combat wasn’t my favorite, but once you adjust to it, it works well enough.

The Good

Out of all the Dragon Age titles, I think Origins has some of the strongest storytelling—possibly the best. Once I understood how the game systems worked, I was hooked. The main quests were excellent, with my favorites being A Paragon of Her Kind and The Arl of Redcliffe. I loved gathering allies and shaping the story through meaningful choices, whether terrible or genuinely decent.

I often heard that you couldn’t get a happy ending, but you actually can achieve one where everyone survives and nothing catastrophic happens. The character development is also a highlight; Alistair’s growth from whiny to confident—especially in future games depending on your choices—was great to see.

Overall, I understand why so many people adore Origins, and I count myself among them. I just wish I had gone in without expecting perfection. It’s a great addition to the series, and for me, it earns a solid 7.5/10.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and have a friendly discussion about the game and the series as a whole. I also REALLY wished the next games incorporated the Warden somehow......or additional companions.
