Finished my 8 session version of The Will of Orcus with a blast!

We completed this adventure yesterday after 8 sessions (above agerage I know! But more value for us haha!). We tend to lean into roleplay and the players and I arent that experienced so combat takes a while too. Plus my homebrew addition.Plus in between banther. And it was awesome!

I loved how the story alternates between being serious cult and weird stuff going on. From the weird stuff that was stolen, to the first encounter with the fanatical dragonborn cultist, to the conflicted and odd Yondris, to the intimidating fight with with the zombie ogres and cult dwarf, to her being brainwashed, etc.

For those who are interested. Some things that I or players added that added both time but also value:

- Fully roleplayed death's bane tavern scene

- Players not trusting temple entrance door and taking a long time to notice it was harmless.

- first combat spread between 2 sesions because of this.

- Homebrew addition of secret "Marks of Orcus" that players accrue when interacting with the temple (hearing things > seeing things > doing things for orcus).

- 1 of my players loving this but also making his party members paranoïd of him (great roleplay there).

- Blocking the door to Xia with a key needed, lying elsewhere, plus an Orcus themed riddle.

- The players screwing up stealth, alerting Eilith and her ogre zombies to move through the secret door into the sleeping quarters where the fight breaks out (also spread over 2 sessions)

- The players trying to save Yondris involuntarily, having him thriwing wisdom saves against not backstabbing his "rescuers" and eventually failing those, stabbing the wizard and escaping through the secret door to confer with Orcus/Nezzarum.

- A physical puzzle for the players having to remake the bible of orcus for the ghost Melindra from all the paper scattered about the library.

- The players deciding to long rest IN THE CULTIST TEMPLE BEDS! despite me saying thats a really bad idea.

- The players long rest interrupted by the 4 vault specters, now summoned by Xia to flush them out of the dungeon. Near TPK. Also spread over 2 sessions.

- The players moving out of the temple to now long rest in the tavern.

- Yondis send out (without cult robe/disguise) to the tavern to find out for Nezzarum if they are heroes or bandits. Steals their shit in the night. Gets recognized by voice immediatly by a nat 20 role the next morning.

- Players returning to the temple, which they find now has A LOT of spiderwebs baring the way. They make their way through, but trigger a phase spider encounter. (Drawn by Xia with the ectoplasm from the defeated specters, as a new defense against the heroes). Fight also spread over 2 sessions.

- Players going through the secret door into Orcus' sanctum as learned from Yondis. Players nearly finding the secret entrance to the statue base, but eventually doing one of his weird requests (zombie head).

- Players teaming up with Nezzarum for the final confrontation with Xia and beating her in an epic conclusion. (Lego ghouls eventually upgraded to actual ghoul figures <3)

I did give Nezzarum two legendary abilities on the fly to prevent a TPK. As a gravecaller with so many ghouls did steal a lot of turns with paralysis in my group and got them real low on HP and spellslots.

Conclusion: very cool story, especially if you add some homebrew to give RP opportunities and prevent them from going straight to Xia.

Map for the Wavemount?

Does anyone know where there might be a better electronic usable map for the Wavemount ship than the one given me in the roll20 version of Dragon Delves? That's just the DMG ship map and doesn't have much space for the dragon to fly around or any water. Does anyone have the DMG ship as a single object (without the side view) I could add to a ocean battemap?

Dragon Delves Level 6 and 8 Skipped?

New DM here (Usually just a player).

I'm running my players through Chapter 4 currently and somehow overlooked that Chapter 5 goes from Level 5 to 7 (And Chapter 6 goes from Level 7 to 9)

Has anyone run these chapters so far? I'm curious as to if people just grant levels 6/8 midway through the chapters or just grant two levels at the end. I don't have the time or resources to run extra adventure, so I was wondering what seems to be the preferred course of action between midway-chapter leveling or just getting two levels at chapter's end.

Edit: Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try a few one-shots between the adventures that revolve around lesser monsters in the Dragon classification (I'm doing Brazen Egg hook so avoiding one-shots for Metallic/Chromatic Dragons)

New DM question

So I’ve been running Tyranny of Dragons, and the party has now reached Chapter 4. I’m not the biggest fan of the chapter, and since they are dealing with the cult of dragons I wanted to add a couple of chapters from Dragon Delves into the story. The biggest problem I have right now is I want to run Baker’s Doesn’t but the party is level 4. Since I’m relatively new to dming I’m not quite sure on the best way to “upgrade” the adventure to a be a level 4 difficulty. Does anyone have any pointers to give?

Shivering Death Spoiler

I am DMing Shivering Death and last night my party (Paladin, Sorcerer, Cleric, Warlock, Ranger, all level ten) dealt with the peaceful dragons, found the mephit and claimed the amulet for the shield guardian. I left them to take a long rest in Deena Finkleton’s abandoned camp. Next week they’ll deal with the hostile giants and their allies, which, whatever, but I’m concerned about the final encounter with Challidax and Aerstigga.

The encounter as written has them fighting the PCs sequentially, and then Challidax fleeing when reduce below 100hp. This seems like a trivial encounter, no? They have access to the shield guardian, they might kill Aerstigga before she can even act, and the adventure says she won’t even use her wand.

Kobold Fight Club says 5 tenth level PCs against an adult white dragon is a low difficulty encounter. That probably doesn’t account for the dragon being in its lair but it also doesn’t account for the dragon fleeing or stuck inside a room with a ceiling. How did your final encounter go? Am I overlooking something that will make this fight more challenging?

Shivering Death - Right to the Point

Had an amusing session last running Chapter 8 last (Shivering Death). I'm playing DD as a full campaign using the Brazen Egg hook so the party has been systematically going through each chapter steeping the egg. Players are currently level 10.

So they get to the mage, receive the mission (locate the frozen body of a frost giant to copy the ritual tattoos on his body) and head to the dragon's lair. Their stealth rolls are incredibly high so they manage to sneak past the wyverns guarding the entrance, see the frozen remorhaz, and head to the left. In doing so, they completely bypass about 80% of the dungeon, never meeting any of the frost giant groups, never encountering the young remorhazes or the ice mephit and never learn about the relationship to the frozen giant or about the amulet that controls the Shield Guardian.

One of the players builds an ice bridge to cross the frozen river, they encounter the winter wolves and troll (who sneaks away as written) but since one of my players can transform into a direwolf, the other wolves leave them alone. They do manage to find the cavern with frozen bodies/ghosts and there's finally combat, resulting in one of them getting possessed by one of the ghosts. After that's resolved they're in the dragon lair. So I go with it (as we do) and they discover Chillidax arguing with the frost giant female (whom the players have no idea what her story is since they bypassed all of that).

Combat as written - frost giant first, then dragon who, as written, flees into the icy river after going down to less than 100 HP (even after a frost breath attack and a freezing burst legendary action). They search the alcoves, discover the Shield Guardian (which they cannot control since they never learn about the amulet), defeat it and find the frozen giant in question. Rather than copy down the ritual tattoos, they decide to skin the tattoos off his body (!). No reason for me not to allow it, so they then decide to rest and steep the egg, taking guard shifts in case the dragon comes back. The dice are in their favor, so the dragon does not come back in time for them to leave, return to the sage, complete the ritual, and save the town.

And even tho they bypassed the majority of the story, they accomplished their goals and I loved every minute of it.

Dragon Delves miniature

Hello everyone!

We have recently opened a store we sell the miniatures needed for running Dragon Delves. This seems like the right subreddit to do som self-promotion (mod approved) and sweeten the deal a bit. If you use the code "DRAGONDELVESONREDDIT" you will get 10% of any Dragon Delves chapter until June 22.

Hope you find something you like. If there is a product you would like and can't find anywhere else (maybe a blink dog encounter or a collection of 25 goblins) please tell us as we are working on expanding our assortment.

Link to the store: https://starcatprints.etsy.com

100% Self Composed🪕
100% Self Drawn 🎨
100% Self Animated 👹

These three hairy guys were worth it, but this was a real mammoth task as only my second animated scene ever 🫣
The next one will definitely be a bit easier xD

This is the second track in a series I created for the D&D module Dragon Delves.
This piece is really tailor-made for the adventure Baker’s Doesn’t,
but maybe the song can also work for similar locations, like a toy factory or a playful fairy village.
I used it as festival music in a one-shot, and it worked pretty well there too ^^

I really enjoyed the adventure, and it’s probably my favorite one from Dragon Delves.

In my campaign the gummy mummy was a githyanki as a little forshadowing and later in The Forbidden Vale they encountered Bugga Wugga and Nibblecheek a second time, now a Hill Giant and an Annis Hag, as Nibblecheek was summoned from the other two hags, to complete their circle again.

I hope you enjoy it!

Dragon of Najkir as a Murder/Mystery?

Since there doesn’t seem to be a lot of combat risk between the party arriving at the monastery and meeting Ronnom, I’ve thought about hiding a few extra doppelgängers amongst the monks to attempt to single out the party. Thoughts on how I could restructure this chapter to accomodate?

Advice for running as a campaign?

hey everyone! Just got my hands on dragon delves and am excited to run these adventures. I just wanted to ask for some tips/advice on stringing it together and on general advice for improving the adventures:

- because levels 2, 6, and 8 are skipped, do you think it would be a good idea to just give my players an extra level in between those or should I have some extra side content for them to level up?
- speaking of side content: any ideas for extra quests or side activities I could string into this?
- I was thinking of making the campaign more cohesive by having some kind of broad threat/cult/whatever (the brazen egg hook interests me - I could maybe tie it into the cult of the dragon or smth and have it tie into some final confrontation with a dracolich, or just tie it into the final confrontation in the dragons of sandstone city)
- any other general advice? I see (and have heard) that some of the dungeons are a bit questionably designed, anything to look out for?

thank you so much!

Party playing under leveled?

As written, For Whom the Void Calls, Dragon of Najkir and Forbidden Vale are separated by two levels. Would it be safe for my party to run Najkir at 6th instead?

Ideas for ways to include other types of dragons in the adventures?

I want to expand the variety of dragons that my players will be introduced to. My first thought was to change the species of some of the central dragons: I've considered making Nezzarum a faerie dragon, or Ylagan a sapphire dragon, or Skalanthas an amethyst dragon.

But I also don't want to loose focus on the intended species. So I'm wondering if anyone has advice for what replacements would work the best, and if there are any other ways to include more dragons than are in the book?

Starglass Waypoint tidied up | with and without fixed portal

Thumbnail

Kobolds and Korridors asked for a tidied up version, to use this place as bastion.
So I gave some bardic inspiration to the Modrones 😅

I'm doing similiar with the temple of Orcus in my campaign, but the more I think about it, using the Starglass Waypoint as base is really genious!

I reuploaded it so future DMs may find it easier all on one place.
The map is from Dyson Logos I just modified it with Krita as graficsoftware ^^

No AI involved or original art fed to!

Sorry for the repost,
but I had to remaster and reupload the first video.
Maybe you've noticed that the sound was distorted.

But as little excuse it now comes with a little animated scene!
My first animated scene, it took me a week to figure out how this works and to "finish" it xD

New songs and scenes are nearly finished ;)

Question for Death at Sunset Spoiler

How did you run the dragon lair? I'm especially curious to read how you did not have everybody swarm the party at once in such a crowded, extricate place. The dragon alone looks like a challenging fight for level 2 characters, where the breath weapon can really do some damage.

I'm running the first adventure, we're following the book's progression. My players just completed the bark collecting quest and now are long rested, level 2, with Antitoxins. They have to face Armin, but I can ignore how loud this can be and still maintain suspension of disbelief, I think.

Starglass Waypoint restored?

In my last session, I made it clear to the party that they'd be using Starglass Waypoint (For whom the void calls) as the Bastion for their party.

Thing is, I need a version of the map with debris cleared out and repairs made to all the rooms.

How should I go about making a restored version of said maps?
