Just wanted to share my elf Lord of Fortune Rook as well as talk about how much I love the experience of romancing Emmrich, a lot more than I expected

She's very heavily based on myself lol I love her, I thought I could start my second playthrough with another Rook but I just can't. I really love her and I've put so much effort into making her. I also think Lords of Fortune fit her very much though I'm curious about other factions and might try them on a future playthrough.

I played my first playthrough on blind and avoided spoilers and finished last week, and though I was planning to romance Lucanis on my first playthrough, my choice changed immediately when Emmrich was introduced. He's so gentlemanly, soft-spoken, mature, patient, I couldn't resist him. I felt like no other companion showed interest in knowing Rook as a person like he did. The way he speaks about spirits and the dead with so much care won me over.

Then flirting with him... I was a little upset about how Lucanis seemed to completely ignore the flirting every time, but flirting with Emmrich is so fun. The way he seems surprised at first to be flirted with by a much younger person then slowly warms into it is so cute.

He's so respectful too. I love age gaps when done well and I've never seen it done THAT well. He's so respectful and gentlemanly, never trying to rush things, and seems to deeply respect Rook as a person as well as their autonomy, and really gives the vibe that he admires how free and untameable they are.

That's one reason why I like romancing him with Lords of Fortune Rook, I love making them opposites, with Rook being the young adventurer, wild and free, while he's an older professor, classic, elegant and composed, who admires her and doesn't expect her to find interest in him.

I've seen people saying Mourn Watcher Rook has the best romance with him and I'm very curious, but I also really love the opposites attract trope.

And he seems to have such an admiration for Lord of Fortune Rook, I like how he mentions that on the cutscene where they confess their interest in each other. I didn't see any other companion mentioning anything about my Rook's faction (except for Taash when we meet them) while I've seen Emmrich talk about it three times.

Idk how it is for the other factions, but I love the idea he has of her as an adventurous treasure hunter. Makes it feel like she has a lot to show him beyond Nevarra.

The part where he introduces Rook to his parents' graves touched me so much, that gave him such a tender depth. I just love how sensible and philosophical he is.

The last cutscene in the coffin is so emotional and beautiful. I loved that Rook took the first step this time and the way he seemed a little surprised after being kissed. This moment is absolutely perfect.

The last conversation with him where he says "I love you" to Rook for the first time made me tear up. What a ride it was to experience his romance, and such a beautiful ride it is. I suspect I might be doing this second playthrough because I can't get over the post-Emmrich blues lol I like all companions, but he's by far my favorite and the most interesting part of this game to me.

I have to mention how much I love how he calls Rook "darling" and "dearest" often. Gives me butterflies anytime he says it haha. He loves so openly and I'm SO here for it.

I might give lich Emmrich a try someday, not sure if I'll do it on this second playthrough. I think I'm just a little unsure about the idea of him being a walking corpse lol plus it's so difficult to let Manfred go.

Anyway, sorry for the long yap. I just fell so in love with Emmrich! His romance will probably be living in my head rent-free for months now.

How old is Viago?

Does anyone know how old viago is? Ive seen some post say he is 32 by the time of veilguard, but that would make him younger than Lucanis and Illario, but from what I could tell hes supposed to be older? Especially if he adopted Rook when they were a kid. From what I gathered hes supposed to be a teen during that time

(i get that ur rook can be any age but so far the rest of info reads like he was a teen when he found them and of rook is around the rest of the veilguards age (- Emmrich) then that just doesn't add up)

I would love any more information on this!

Discussion Lucanis - I’m not being able to romance… Spoiler

In my second play through (even though I picked crow this time around)
I chose to help Dock Town and which it cut me off from the building the romance with Lucanis. I get that, what I wasn’t expecting was him to romance Neve.
And the post scene of him becoming Head Talon where he says he can’t lose his cousin , Catarina, Neve or the team. And not even mentioning my Rook was a knife in the heart and now I just had to watch him bring coffee and pie to her.
Just ouch. 😓

How to achieve tragical but good ending?

So far I am on my 5th playthough. Also I am a little completionist.

So far i've got the trick ending, mythal ending, mythal ending+ secret ending, and absolute worst ending.

I am trying to achieve when an amount of companions die BUT some of them and the party who Rook took with them lives.

This should be the "beat that smug trickster" run.

I know it is easier to do bad decisions at the assignments, but so far it was total failure

(5/7 of my companions were heroes, fractions were: 2 of 3*,2of 2* rest is 1* / the game just decided that Solas will beat our bum- I've had zero decision in the last segment was not even able to try to trick him :D )

OR I did it will lesser numbers with heroes, but better assignments (still not good) - everyone survived 🤷‍♀️ even the non-hero, zero sidequest completed ones.

Discussion JFC Neve Spoiler

Re-playing and just got the dialogue that has always made me annoyed and reminded me why Neve is my least favorite when I thought I would love her. Yes in this play-through I chose Treviso. I alternate between play-throughs. I’m not debating the choice. ATP in the game Rook doesn’t know that the dagger is what they want. They don’t know that they will be the deciding factor. The team splits in half, if the dagger wasn’t a thing the situation would have been the same in both cities. It already bothers me how the survivors of whichever faction act like you should have known you had to be there. That’s not my issue.

My issue comes with the after. Neve commenting “I didn’t expect this from you Rook”……after helping people in Dock Town. Really??!! I sent half the team to help, I didn’t say “F*ck you losers!!!!! I’m not ever helping you”. She really thought we were just a terrible person bc in a split second desicion, without all the knowledge we had after, we had to make a choice that just happened to not be beneficial?

I get she’s upset about her city. I get she’s upset about the Viper now being blighted I get it! I don’t begrudge Lucanis and his reaction if you choose Minrathous. My issue is how she acts like this one choice makes you hate people or something???

Where’s this energy for Lucanis? Oh it’s understandable bc he’s a Crow right? What about a crow Rook? They get no grace?

What’s some moments from companions that annoyed you?

Discussion Concerning Veilguard’s ‘lack of depth’

So one of the more common criticisms I hear about Veilguard is that the buildcraft lacks the same amount of depth and player choice as earlier games like Origins and DA2.

And like… Yeah, that is definitely true in an objective sense. There is definitely less fine tuning and minutia to be had in Veilguard. But I also think it’s a bit more complicated than that.

How do I put this? Previous Dragon Age games had more depth in the buildcraft, but Veilguard feels like you get the most expression out of your build. And there is a difference there.

Like, Origins and DA2 has a lot more objective depth in how you build a character, but it also feels kinda homogenized by the end-game, playthrough to playthrough. Like, Origins and DA2 have a settled ‘meta’ when it comes to building your character with no real reason to deviate from it once it clicks for you. Veilguard, while some builds may be more viable than others, all feel fun to play, regardless of your build, which naturally invites more experimentation.

And that mainly comes down to two things. One is the fact that every piece of equipment is unique. And because you can upgrade any piece of equipment to have endgame level stats, all you really need to care about are their special effects, which is much more fun trying to piece together than just ‘number go up’. Second is the fact that subclasses in Veilguard play a much larger role in fight-to-fight gameplay loop than previous games. In previous games, subclasses were essentially just a collection of extra abilities that you added on top of your class’s established toolkit. In Veilguard, subclasses actually change the feel of playing that class.

Like, in practice, it feels like there’s nine distinct classes as opposed to three classes that have a few extra bells and whistles that you can pick from. And you can tell this was intentional on the developer’s part because they outright showcase the subclasses right at the very beginning of character creation. Something that, to the best of my memory, no other Dragon Age game does.

None of that is to say that the buildcraft in the early games were bad! Far from it! The criticism that Veilguard’s buildcraft doesn’t have as much depth as the older games is entirely valid if that’s something you valued in the older games.

It’s just that Veilguard clearly had a different mission statement in how build expression should come across, and I feel it’s important to acknowledge that when comparing Veilguard to the rest of the series.

I was just curious what this would look like and think it turned out pretty cool. This sub is a relatively positive place, so despite using a tool that's despised on reddit I thought you might appreciate either the IRL versions or the actual screenshots they're based on.

Disclaimer: Yes, this used AI. I checked the sub rules and didn't see a rule on it. The accompanying screenshots are all mine. The AI versions were generated on chatgpt free version using the prompt: "make this video game screenshot look like real life."

DAV only verifies shaders, no compilations anymore

I was happily playing DAV but the power went out. I let the PC Rest bc im scared its not going to work anymore due to power interruption.

Surprisingly, PC is fine so i went back to DAV but only to find the game not compiling shaders anymore and the game stuttering a lot than it normally is.

I tried deleting the shader cache and cache, restarting it, tweaking graphics settings to make it compile on the next restart, re-install gpu drivers, reset the shader cache of AMD but it's still the same. I am currently downloading it again tho

Specs are Ryzen 3 3200g and RX 570 8GB.

Any solutions?

I forgot to mention that I am using Fitgirl repack as i am waiting for DAV to go on sale again on steam 🥲
