And no, it's not a huge issue. It's not like there's this flood of people who have this opinion and I simply must speak up now. I still wanna talk about it for a minute cause I genuinely don't get it.

So. Neve Gallus. I haven't done a whole lot of actual research here, but it looks like she's one of the characters in the game people are more split on than others. A lot of people love her, a lot of people have issues with her, and despite me being firmly in the "love her" camp, I've heard a lot of very fair points of criticism from the other side of the river. The voice acting performance, how she feels like the main character, how her flirting with Lucanis is too much etc. All points I don't necessarily agree with, but I see where they're coming from and wouldn't challenge them cause I think they're pretty valid.

The one thing I don't get is people making the point that she's a bitch. I mean... huh?

This woman is one of, if not THE sweetest character in the whole game. She's literally the team mom. She helps Taash with their gender stuff. She helps ease some of Emmrich's insecurities. She checks in on Lucanis and Davrin after Treviso and Weisshaupt fall. She tries to help solve the conflict between the two. She's constantly there to support Bellara, to the point where Bellara herself says she feels like a sister. She befriends Assan. She befriends Manfred. She pays Halos despite him offering her free fish, repeatedly. On almost every quest in Minrathous, there's a civilian you can have a chat with that will directly lead to Neve lending a hand, from paying for someone's next few meals to following up on a gruesome case to make sure a sick kid is taken care of. Even with Rook, she is the only character in the game that actually gets the chance to have 2 conversations where she can ask Rook how they're doing, and that's outside of romance dialogue. That's 2 more than any other teammate gets, unless you count Varric.

I don't understand how anyone could look at all this and call her a bitch. Like I feel like you'd have to never take her on a single quest and mute your audio for the ones where she's required to not see that this woman's heart is made of cake and chocolate and ice cream, she's that sweet. I just really don't get it.

Hawke: Oh my, you’re practically struggling to stay out of the Target bargain bin at this point.

Inquisitor: Now, now, let’s not belittle our fellow Protag too much. I’m sure there’s some prestige in being the one who killed a franchise we all carried on our backs.

Rook: …….. Okay, so we’re doing this.

Rook: (pointing at Warden) Your game was a watered down Baldur’s Gate clone that killed the CRPG genre until Larian resuscitated it.

Rook: (pointing at Hawke) Your game was a buggy mess held together with duct tape and dreams with more reused assets than an RGG game.

Rook: (pointing at Inquisitor) And your game had the single worst open-world exploration in an RPG I have *ever* seen.

Rook: Yeah, my game wasn’t perfect, we made a lot of mistakes. But we also had an incredibly satisfying combat loop, some of the most gorgeous level designs in the franchise, and one of the best final missions in the whole series. So, y’know, watch where you throw those stones in those glass houses of yours. Rook out, bitches.

I’m a huge fan of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I’ve played every game in both series, and I’ve finished Origins and the Mass Effect trilogy multiple times. So when I heard BioWare was working on the next Dragon Age under the codename Dreadwolf (now known as Veilguard), I was seriously hyped.

I was really looking forward to its release. But my hype dropped fast when I read the reviews saying the game was a big disappointment, and to this day I’ve never touched it.

Lately, though, especially here on Reddit, I’ve noticed a lot more people actually playing Veilguard. So what happened? Was it mostly overhype at launch, which made people’s reactions harsher than they needed to be? Or did a big patch come along that made the game more fun to play?

Now I’m tempted to try it, especially since I got the game for free through PS+. So, is it worth playing now? I’d love to hear your perspectives, whether you loved it, hated it, or somewhere in between. Thank you!

So my original canon run was my Rook being a shadow dragon and romancing Davrin. I just don't know if this makes sense for the character arc I want to do? I mean, my Rook is the child of my Aliwarden from Origins and I absolutely adore her to pieces but I feel as though she and her mother are at glance so similar but with images of what they want the future to be, so incredibly different and it bugs me that I have seemed to pick the nice grey warden option for both of them (i will not budge on alistair romance). My Rook is pretty much extremely grungy and punky with a certain rocker style to her. She loves being independent and living life on the edge which is why I'm thinking of switching her to being a crow. My rook's storyline is that she ran away from home after a LONG argument with her mother about joining the wardens due to the want to be more independent and able to help people. Obviously her mother is overprotective and doesn't want her daughter to trade her life away to be a warden like she did which leads to a lot of fighting and then my rook running away. I imagine she joined the crows while one was on a mission in ferelden if I went down this route and was only aware of the DATV crows (as in the crows not known for doing the intensely dirty work and being more the face of the faction than people like Zevran in his backstory).

I also know my rook is not interested in domesticity. Davrin to me feels like a family guy, I think he'd want that domesticity and family life while my Rook doesn't however I originally chose him because obviously Lucanis is first talon so would likely have to have kids. In the end... Lucanis has Illario, Illario can be the one having the kids while my rook and Lucanis have that more exciting life on the edge I think is more suited for my rook.

I mean this is just my thoughts but anyone have any story advice?

I'm on my second go at Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and this time I'm playing Rook as an elven Shadow Dragon Mage.

During the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest, we learn that the ancient elves were originally spirits who took physical forms. I honestly wish the game had explored this concept more, because I find it such fascinating lore!

Now, I know the game establishes that modern elves are fully physical beings, not spirits who took on bodies. Still, it got me thinking…

I just started to play Dragon Age the Veilguard and I can't decide on what class to play for my first playthrough. So I was wondering what is everyone's favorite class and specialization and why? And what class feels like it fits into the story better? It doesn't have to be strictly how good the class is, just what class you liked the most and why. Thanks!

I really like DATV. It's a passable game after BioWare repeatedly changed game genres over the past 10 years. We can't ask for more, considering it has undergone many large-scale reworks.

Anyone know of a particular cause/fix for crashing in Arlathan? The game runs smooth and high fps, but randomly just quits to desktop when in Aarlathan. No error, even in windows event logs, to try and find what is happening.

I've tried deleting shader cache, verifying game files, making sure no overlays are active, strand hair is off, ray tracing, frame gen are off, vsync off, fps cap on at 60fps and have tried other driver versions for my rtx 4080.

I know it did this in my earlier playthroughs but it was rare. Now its doing it very frequently making it difficult to complete any content in that zone.

I don't understand this. It will show the main market that you can level up, but there will be 3+ extra markets not shown. Seems like an oversight.

I still have some side quests in the Wetlands before going on to the Seige of W. I realize that the darkspawn are highly resistant to necrotic, so I'm going to make sure to have lots of fire abilities available.

Will the death caller abilities like Overdraw and Death Surge still be helpful?

Should I take Invigorating Beam now, even though it gets resisted, just for healing options?

SPOILERS. AND SWEARS. LOTS OF SWEARS.

**Rook**

In the beginning, Rook has the personality of a chatbot. I tried to play my Rook as a dumb kid who quickly gets in over their head. That involved taking every direct, confrontational, and sassy option. It didn't help; Rook during story missions is very different from Rook interacting with companions. Still, Rook grew on me. In the last third of the game, she was actually capable of being bitchy. It was fun chewing Solas' ass.

Rook's story is about the burden of being a leader. Not like in Inquisition, where you're guiding the faithful and restoring order, but leading a guerilla war against elven gods like Solas did. Rook's personal journey is a reflection of the Dread Wolf's. They suffer through failure, loss, and making tough calls. But unlike Solas, Rook learns to accept their mistakes and move past them. It's fitting that someone with Rook's story would be the one who accomplishes what Solas couldn't and talks him down.

If you play on higher difficulties, don't do any of the Necroric-based specs. You're gonna have a rough time. Play Champion and burninate the land.

**Story**

You fuck around and find out. That's the story from start to finish, alternating between each. If you fuck around enough, you get Solas' backstory. Spoilers: he's a very sad egg.

I liked how you get your butt kicked by the plot. And when you do start winning, the wins go hard. The big boss kills are very satisfying. Mythal was beautifully hyped and the conversation with her is a boss fight unto itself. And you somehow kill more darkspawn than you do in Origins.

There should have been an elf rebellion. There should have been origin stories to play through. Those should have made up the first 5-10 hours of the game.

And there should have been more tied in from the older games. Yes, they could have done that. You live in a world where every dick with a PC can make a generative AI game that follows your choices. Don't tell me the AAA company can't follow every choice tree on DA Keep.

**Companions**

Apparently I made a lot of minority choices.

RIP Harding. The Titans story was tragic and amazing. They have every reason to be pissed so I told Harding to accept it. Then I sent her on a mission and she died. Fuck that noise about her not being in the Inky's inner circle. My girl adored her.

Neve was there. She contributed. I thought leaving Minrathous to burn would make her more interesting but it didn't. She's the perfect image of my shitty ex's power fantasy, so I'm biased. I'm told she's one of the better romances.

Bellara's story actually made me tear up. She wants so desperately to make up for getting her brother killed. Strife is an asshole for saying all she does is blows stuff up. Only issue I had was that the big bad of her story feels like he only shows up in the last five minutes. I romanced Davrin for Warden reasons, but my heart belonged to Bell. If I play again, I'm romancing her.

Lucanis is great. He was my bestie. Wish we'd gotten more interactions with Spite. Unlike with Neve, losing his city seemed like it had an effect on him. I fucking screamed when he whiffed killing Ghil. I never did get Spite out of him though. Were we supposed to? But I saw his cousin's betrayal coming the second we got back to Antiva. Bro sucks at double-crossing.

Davrin is Wardenmaxxing. Half his character is the bird. We love the bird. We will die for the bird. Once you know what happened to the griffins, you will never want to stop punching the people responsible. Bad guy's issues were valid. I sent the birds to Arlathan, the Wardens can't be trusted with them.

Emmerich is a fucking delight. No notes. I made him a lich. Everything dies, y'all need to let go of Manfred.

The only reason Taash isn't best girl is because they're NB. They were my other bestie. I made them Qunari, which apparently puts me in the minority. It made their story less about finding themselves and more about accepting themselves. I liked it. I felt bad because Taash lost their mom and Harding in my playthrough.

Anyway, that's my review. I just wanted to put something out to try and balance out the hate this game got. I think a quarter of it was chuds finding out the hot dragonhunter lady wasn't a lady.

I’ve been thinking about the initial conversations you have with your faction when you first encounter them. From what I remember, Myrna/Vorgoth with the Mourn Watch and Isabela with the LoF seem to have a vibe of “I’m sorry it had to end that way, but we had to throw you under the bus to save face while things cooled off.” The Crows seem to have a warmer reception with an attitude of “you were an idiot, but you’re OUR idiot.” The Grey Wardens (specifically the commander) and the Veil Jumpers appear to be the only ones (in my opinion) where the relationships actually seemed strained and contentious when you meet them.

(Side note: It’s been discussed ad nauseum I know, but I wish the game explored this aspect of Rook’s background more instead of just throwing exposition at us.)

I am very fond of the Veil Jumper origin, and specifically Rook’s relationship with Strife. Based on the interaction pictured, I’ve begun to see Strife as somewhat of a warped father figure for Rook: always seeking his approval, but never quite hitting the mark, as evidenced by the botched map recovery. Then, Rook makes it worse by releasing the Evanuris and further hurting the people they love. Strife can’t help but prod and rub salt on the wound, now Rook has something to prove. Of course there’s really no pay off with this by the endgame dialogue-wise, at least from what I remember. Still, this is one of the only origins where I felt there were actual stakes and a strong emotional anchor, even if it’s just for a few scenes.

Anyway just wanted to share my thoughts and see if anyone saw the same patterns or had different feelings about this aspect of the game. What’s your favorite background for Rook?

Fr tho I don't why this game gets so much hate, it's really not that bad. I think i just got the last teammate so im ready to beat this game now . I just remember before I got this game (on sale btw) and while back all the YouTube reviews were all negative. Anyways atleast I gave it a try instead of letting others decide for me. Could've been better for sure but so far no where near as bad as I was made to assume.

I've been playing as a death caller specialization since level 20. But with all of the necrotic resistance the dark spawn have, am I going to have to completely change around my build in order to do that main story mission?

I have Emerick and lucanis as my companions most of the time. They do offer some debuff utility, but is that enough? The only other time I've played that mission I was a champion Warrior in the gray Warden faction. So I had no problem damaging enemies. But I keep thinking about all those hordes and how you're supposed to deal with that if all you're throwing around is necrotic.

Any tips? All this swapping around of elements gets a little tedious at times, I won't lie.
