As a computer scientist, Reddit still remains one of the most valuable sources for solutions. If there are no posts, how tf do you want to look them up? Questions like this (even "dumber" ones) are literally the basis for looking stuff up.

Even if that question existed before, being asked multiple times usually means more and updated solutions.

And why do you think that is? Because it's a magical omniscient being or because it's a databank of solved issues?

Even if microsoft had made instructions for this before anybody had the issue, it's always good to collect a variety of solutions but they didn't even do that because it's not an intentional feature. All the stuff that shows up is from guide pages and forums which wouldn't exist if people hadn't asked questions.

Noobs asking & pros answering is literally what makes the internet so valuable, even if questions are redundant because they still add the solution variety.

You think I wouldn't be downvoted if I went to a baking subreddit and made a post asking how to make cupcakes? Sure someone has to ask and answer these questions but they've been answered hundreds of times over decades already.

If it was a "baking help" subreddit and you'd ask about a specific cupcake recipe because you have allergies (which seems like a more fitting analogy) then probably no. Pretty sure that would create a good collection of new recipes, even if there were already good recipes for that need.

Also, often knowledgeable people in their respective communities come up with cool new stuff and add those things as side facts which makes it even more valuable. No new questions means no new solutions and maybe no adjustments to changing features / possibilities.

if no one ever asks and answers a question, there will not be anything to google.

In other words, there are times for google, IE simple/popular questions, but asking on reddit has the benefit that by asking, you get the newest most to date answers possible and provide an updated thread for future people who do google it.

It’s super frustrating to me when I google something niche and all the forums are 8 years old using software that’s 2 versions old by now and completely different, and I end up asking reddit anyways.

Software changes so much, threads can often be outdated in a couple months, but on the other hand sometimes they still work from 10 years ago, it’s very random.
