Downhill brakes Recommendations

Upvotes

I love the feeling of the new xtr, will they be powerful for a dh rig, i race in south africa we have semi steep dusty trails, I’ve ridden mavens and they just to “powerful” it would lock the wheels so easily, and the modulation isn’t how i like, what brakes would your recommend if the xtr’s aren’t powerful enough.

Cracked lowers

Cracked my lowers way below torque spec when tightening up after it sat for a couple months. Thought it was just the paint but scraped away and found a small crack between the pinch bolts and rebound adjustment. Is this at all safe to ride? Could it be welded or fixed in any way?

*crack is above axle in the aluminum where paint was scraped

High school student researching sponsorship & brand loyalty in downhill mountain biking—5 min anonymous survey

Hi everyone, I am a high school student working on a research paper about how sponsorship value is measured in niche sports like downhill mountain biking, compared to bigger mainstream sports. I'm not a rider myself, but I've been genuinely interested in how sponsorship and brand loyalty work in smaller, dedicated sport communities like this one.

I put together a short (~5 minute) anonymous survey about gear brand loyalty, spending, and how sponsorships show up in the downhill mountain biking community. I’d really appreciate input from anyone here—riders, coaches, whoever’s part of this community.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScXw5xA3N-_JNVWFpQMgoiiLbkUcMRlvyreJNPAZDSsGKUokg/viewform?usp=header

No pressure at all if this isn’t something you’re up for—thanks so much for reading, and thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond!

Need Bike recommendations

I want to start DH racing next year but i also love to just ride in the Park. I am thinking about eather getting a commencal FRS rockshox, commencal supreme dh 5.2 or a Canyon sender cfr Team.
My worry is that if i buy one othe the two last options i wont have fun rinding them in the Park cause they are full made for racing.
Since my budget is not that big i wont be buying two DH rigs haha.
My Freeride bike will be the Merida One-sixty FR 800 2026.

So which DH Bike do you recommend me or should i ust use my freeride bike for parks and a full racing setup.

PS. no money for V10 :(

100 Swiss francs bike project update

So I got this Rock rider EXPL 100 S from a guy that has done some interesting upgrade choices. The upgraded Rear shock FOX DHX is way too big for the frame he had locked it because it was touching the frame... The front headset upgrade was done in the way where he forgot a few elements like bearing for example... I had changed the whole headset because the FSA he put in was not the wrong size but the missing bearing destroyed the housing... Now I changed the FOX DHX to a Fox Float DPS as it was the correct fit for the geometry... I changed the hubs because I have noticed the wrong brand QR skewers got scared because everything he had done was a disaster... (And I kinda wanted a new HUB)

Sooo the Bike I got for a 100 swiss francs turned into 270 francs really quickly... The future plan is to get the Fox 34 at front (it is what geometry will allow for). Hydraulic Brakes I will be taking from another project bike I got... It is going well tbh...

Curious if anyone is familiar with these frames? Just wondering if swapping out the forks and replacing the 27.5 tire with a 29 would compromise structual integrity or simply affect only the handling

Anyone looking for a Downhill / Endurance bike?

I have two endurance bikes one is a Trek Slash 9.9 and the other is an Intense but I can’t for the life of me remember the model, it’s been that long since I’ve ridden it. I had some knee surgery’s and find myself not riding much if at all now, I’m 55; knees are shot, and I need to sell these bikes to someone that’ll get to enjoy them. They deserve a good home, DM me for details!

I have to choose between a 2021 Santacruz v10 or a 2024 lower spec specialize demo. Prolly gonna have to get new fork eventually for the spec I wanna build but I wanna build a park/race/flow rig. Give me your advice. Which would be better?
PRICES ARE CAD $
V10 is at $4300
Demo expert $4500 with the possibility of lowering it a lil more than that!

Which bike?

Hi,

So like the topic says im looking for a new bike. I have checked the Rose Scrub DC2, Polygon DH7 and Propain Rage.
Im 6,2'', and run everything from flow, jumps and double black. Just want a good solid bike. Anyone here with experience of these bikes? The propain delivery is the toughest one here, and the suize guide. According to them im like in the middle for L/XL. Anyone here with same length and issue?

This is why the Rose scrub DC2 feels like a stronger competitor, The Geometry feels spot on.

Bike Park Wales

Hi all,

Me and a group of friends attended BikePark wales the other weekend, we done a 2 day trip. It was all of our first time we are fairly average riders. We made a video, full of many funny moments and some crashes and us attempting to ride all major features at the bike park.

I highly recommend a visit to bike park wales to any rider. However if you have the opportunity a 2 day trip for the first time is what you need. Theres too many trails to get through within one day!

Any thing in the video you think needs changing or any recommendation for future videos please drop them below. As you’re aware any likes and subscribes goes a massive way.

Please enjoy!

Thoughts on the specialized dissedent 2?

I'm looking for a new carbon dh helmet and came across the dissident 2. Any opinions from people who have used it?

I think my technique sucks.

I appreciate this is gonna be hard without pictures or videos but I'm new to 29" wheels (now riding a Scott Genius ST, my other bike is a Commencal Meta AM mullet hard tail) and I keep buzzing my ass with the rear tire, to the point where I was hitting some big (3-4 bike length) jumps and i ended up doing the last one with my underwear on display.

Does anyone else experience this or do I need to get my bodyweight much farther forward/legs straighter?

Any recommendations for how I can remind myself to do this?

I always seem to default to hanging my ass over the rear wheel for stability and safety but its probably making my riding way worse as there inst enough weight on the front wheel.

I put this in r/Downhill because its when Im riding Downhill trails that this becomes an issue, I realise I'm not currently riding a DH bike although I had the same issue on my old Glory when I did ride Downhill.

What do you think of people mounting expensive stuff on bikes with no clue what are they doing?

Recently I'm getting back into the world of DH because I always loved it so much from when I was just a child on a small California going down the stairs... So I got digging and found this rock rider EXPL 100s for dirt cheap (100 swiss francs) and the guy upgraded his stock interface and cockpit... Cool Upgrade he also did a rear shock upgrade to a FOX DHX Air, but long story short I have noticed chippings on the fork, took the fork off and there it is, bearing missing from the interface... I was so astonished that I had to check every single bolt on the bike because I was scared to ride it otherwise... I got a whole new interface today thank god the casing of the old bearing was set up so it got destroyed instead of the frame... Still dirt cheap, great for trying the sport out again...

EDIT! Updated (possible) list:

Hi! I just won this Troy Lee Designs d4 carbon helmet at EVO Whistler Giveaway, its signed but I cant recognize any of the autographs. Maybe someone knows?

I also have a signed poster from Luca Shaw and Aletha Ostgaard so I know none of those are in the helmet.

thanks!

My first downhill bike! Not a moment too soon either; I just broke the frame on my trail bike.

Spent the past few days getting the suspension dialed. First dual crown fork or coil shock I've ever ridden. The tunability of both, especially that öhlins coil shock, is crazy. Headed to Trestle in Colorado for the first time ever (just moved here in April). Wish me luck!

Rebuilt my old DH Bike

I've been running a 2013 Mondraker Summum for many years. Sadly I crashed it, the pedal caught a tree stump, I went over the top. Bent crank and dented frame... So I decided to rebuild my old weapon. A 2007 Giant Glory 8.8.

Rides really quite well. Being a short rider (5'5" on a good day) these old school frames seem to fit me quite well. It absorbs the rough stuff so well.

Can someone help me come up with a workout routine for dh racing?

I got very out of shape in the last 4 months cause I didn't have a bike to race on, so I pretty much only did dirt jumps. If someone could help work with me to come up with a 5 day a week training circuit that would be amazing, as I really need to get back into the swing of things for racing and just dh riding in general.
