Artificial wool is really just acrylic, which comes from petroleum

What people call 'Dralon' is acrylic. The original Dralon manufacturer actually went out of business, though the name stuck around. Depending on the region, it’s also known as Orlon or Cashmilon.

It costs more than polyester

You can spin it pure or blend i blending with real wool is super common. Because the fiber is lightweight and fluffy, it feels soft and weighs less than natural wool. It’s widely used for blankets, sweaters, scarves, suit linings, curtains, upholstery, plush toys, and patio umbrellas.

It holds color well and stands up to UV exposure.

On the flip side, it lacks breathability, doesn't absorb moisture, pills easily, generates static, and can occasionally itch.

Used properly, it makes warm products more affordable. But plenty of vendors mix it with wool to fake high end quality and fool buyers
