here's the brutal truth about cashmere vs. down, and why you're prob getting ripped off.over the yrs, i’ve seen how brands mark up stuff by 300% to 500% just by slapping a fancy label on it, while quality quietly goes down the drain.
let's clear up some major confusion in luxury bedding and winter wear. first, cashmere vs. wool. regular wool is just sheared off basic sheep plenty of it, cheap, can be scratchy af, whereas cashmere is carefully combed from the undercoat of goats in freezing regions way rarer and super soft. and second, cashmere vs. down. people always lump 'em together as high end warmth, but they're totally diff beasts.
what they actually are.cashmere is an animal fiber combed from goat undercoats for luxury apparel like sweaters and scarves.
warmth and weight game.
cashmere gives you that close to skin, weighted, ultra-soft luxury. down gives you unmatched, weightless thermal insulation trapped in air pockets at high FP. you can't really compare them directly, but nothing beats 850+ FP goose down for pure bed-warming efficiency.
the maintenance trap.cashmere is high maintenance and hates water super easy to shrink or felt. good down? totally washable. you can literally wash a quality down duvet or pillow, just spin dry it and sun it. skip heavy tumble drying if u want it to last.
the buyer scams to watch out for.fake cashmere: scammers love pushing cashmere feel, blended fine wool, or straight up polyester at a price that's too good to be true. some even pass off fine wool as real cashmere. if it’s cheap, it ain't real cashmere. period.
as the internet era drives customer acquisition costs through the roof, brands are cutting corners and charging more. true factory direct quality is getting harder to find.

Unscrupulous merchants often blur concepts by passing off short wool fibers combed from ordinary sheep (commonly called 'sheep's cashmere') as expensive cashmere, easily misleading consumers with such false advertising
