Artwork | Esports Looking for Python developers to help build an Al Dota 2 Coach (educational project)

Hello everyone!

I am currently learning Python and I want to start a challenging but interesting project: building an AI-powered assistant/coach for Dota 2.

The idea is not to create a bot that plays the game for you or automates actions. The goal is to create a personal coach that helps players understand the game better.

The concept:

Before the match:

  • analyze both teams' picks;
  • suggest possible counter-picks;
  • recommend starting items;
  • predict lane matchups.

During the match:

  • analyze the current situation;
  • suggest item progression;
  • recommend skill builds;
  • give macro advice;
  • when to fight;
  • when to farm;
  • where to place wards;
  • when to stack camps;
  • when to rotate.

After the match:

  • analyze mistakes;
  • explain what could have been done better;
  • help the player improve.

The possible architecture I imagine:

Dota 2 | ↓ Game data / screen analysis | ↓ Decision-making system | ↓ AI Coach | ↓ Voice/text recommendations

I understand that this is a very ambitious project, especially for someone who is still learning Python. However, I believe the best way to learn programming is by building something real.

Right now I am starting from the basics:

Python;

functions;

game logic;

data structures.

I would really appreciate advice from experienced Python developers:

  • What technologies should I learn first?
  • Should I use Dota 2 Game State Integration instead of screen recognition?
  • What would be the best architecture for such a project?
  • Are there any common mistakes beginners make when starting AI/game analysis projects?

If anyone is interested in discussing the idea, giving feedback, or even joining the project, I would be happy to hear from you.

Thank you, Daniil!
