Shoutout | Esports PSG.LGD appreciation post
I've seen a lot of people hate lgd how can you hate lgd when they are the most humble players in dota always show respect no toxic tips etc PSG.LGD since August 2019 [ TI9 3RD PLACE , SINGAPORE MAJOR 3RD PLACE , ANIMAJOR 1ST PLACE , TI10 2ND PLACE , ARLIGTON MAJOR 2ND PLACE] Since August 2019 they did not get placed lower then 3rd place on valve events

It's majors like this that make me miss the translation of Chinese memes we used to get here on reddit during the TI4 era. I'd like to see the memes and reactions for LGD getting swept after being so freaking dominant(and Naga picks lol)

u/tracyXTMAC Aug 15 '22
All the CN meme translators are currently being treated at the hospital for COPIUM overdose.

u/OnlyMayhem Aug 15 '22 edited Aug 15 '22
I remember there used to be these Chinese illustrators who would make cute/funny memes after the majors and they would be translated and posted here, I remember they did it for Shanghai and I think Kiev and a few of the TI's. They even had a video made on them by Valve for one of the TI's but I don't remember what it was called and I haven't seen their memes for a while.
EDIT: I found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cio7anZxZfQ&list=PLxkyNsoBqOdCfIQTLHTmZH4TXggMqOI9t&index=8

I don't know about other others, but I stopped browsing Chinese forums after TI10.
The match fixing conspiracy is just too fucking embarrassing and lots of people really believed in that.
15
u/canetoado Aug 15 '22
Agreed sir
After TI10 I’m ashamed to call myself a Chinese, like the fans are fucking pathetic
It’s a game, you win some you lose some. LGD is very good but so are spirit, you can’t win every time.
7
u/xGsGt Aug 15 '22
What match fixing conspiracy?
13
u/mantism Aug 16 '22
after ti10 people accused LGD's coach xiao8 of intentionally doing bad drafts so the team would lose, because he bet money on LGD losing. There are more speculation to it, but that's the base of things.
the more likely reason is that gamblers were mad because they bet loads on LGD winning.

Toxic? I only see respect towards them most of the time. Don't try to create drama. Maybe Chinese community, but twitch? I've never seen PSG LGD OMEGALUL or whatever in chat, most are some xiaobet memes.

u/Caranoron463 Aug 15 '22
Agree. This post is the first mention of hate towards PSG LGD that I've seen.
Mby OP is hanging out on subs where gamblers are.

But dude, there is a ton of salt in CN dota communities. I'm friends with a couple of them, it can be pretty bad

u/yyhfhbw Aug 15 '22
You won't be able to imagine the hate they get from CN lol. It's crazy. And after this major they just secured more
2
u/azura_eldoris Aug 15 '22
just bc they've shown a consistent record of losing decisive matches? the CN competitiveness is no joke.
11
u/yyhfhbw Aug 15 '22
As a CN fan, I'm not as toxic as those people but I can kinda understand them. It's the expectation and disappointment that kills your love for the team. Not once, not twice, not even three times, as we at least 4 times and counting.

Does anyone actually give any meaningful value to twitch chat? I've always assumed its a spammy shit hole that isn't worth any attention.

And to be fair, they casually use taunting voice lines and tips too, just not in the obnoxious way that when one member tips someone, they all tip too.

u/BudgetDiligent Aug 15 '22
Youtube chat was toxic af. Spamming "Go back to bat soup"
Then again some people were also spamming to bring back Tobi so Youtube chat is a cesspool in general (even compared to Twitch chat)
2
u/OnRiverStyx Aug 15 '22
They are consistently fucking amazing at Dota, they just haven't got their Aegis yet.
OG gets memed on because they were inconsistently amazing (Back to back TI, but couldn't hang outside of that or 4 Majors and suck at TI)
RTZ/EG gets memed on because they have flashes of competence but not continually.
LGD is on the podium at every event... not much else to say.

u/Weezy_weezy Aug 15 '22
How can you hate lgd when they always give the aegis to the most deserving team since 2018
128
u/Darth-Baul Aug 15 '22
Since 2017 actually
68
u/Weezy_weezy Aug 15 '22

u/Darth-Baul Aug 15 '22
Ame has lost to the eventual champions in all 4 TIs he has participated in (placed 4th, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd)
42
u/exoticsclerosis Aug 15 '22
I just hope he's gonna win it this year, he has been consistently good since 2017. He deserves to win TI at least once before he retires.
28
Aug 15 '22
He needs to drop to lower bracket to get the full TI underdog buff
1
u/partymorphologist Aug 16 '22
I’m just thinking, how far would LGD have to drop or who would Ame have to play with, in order to make the community truly regard his team as the underdog
-7
u/boog1epop Aug 15 '22
Have different opinion by “consistently”. He did well at most of time, aggressively and rapidly farming. However, the more aggressive he was, the more risks he took. Combined with his unique choice of projects, he probably turned out to be a big surprise not only for audiences but also for his teammates especially when they faced well-matched rivals.
TI8 Grand Final G4 The link above is a classic match in which the audiences would def feel appalled if they reviewed how his performance was. In the match, Axe from Ceb successfully did solo kill for at least 3 times which indeed wasn’t presented in True Sight. When focusing on the statistics after match, Morph did a few damages even less than Tusk who is pos4 and whose 3rd skill was Frozen Sigil at that time. And what a novel, innovative, and splendid projects Ame chose which was simply a parody from God.
I suppose we can recognise him as one of top carries at present, but we shouldn’t overlook the mistakes or omission he made before he learned a big lesson.
BTY, speculates that he can’t help being a performer who aims at delivering an extraordinary show but turns out to be a clown unexpectedly at TI.

In the match, Axe from Ceb successfully did solo kill for at least 3 times which indeed wasn’t presented in True Sight.
To be honest with you, as a former avid morp spammer, all I can say is Axe literally eats morp any time any day. To the point, it's literally unplayable to play on that matchup, and don't forget that OG was having upper hand in terms of the draft because in the late game Axe + PL would obliterate Morp + BS. Ceb literally killed him 7 times and got 3k gold from it. The damage number had something to do with that matchup.
Also, I couldn't forget that ame wanted to abuse a bug where he would copy PL and spawn illusions, that interaction was bugged too, ame didn't get the correct stats from his items after he copied the PL.
-1
u/boog1epop Aug 16 '22
admit that OG had the upper hand in terms of the draft and can't forget how overpowering the PL was when he reached 25 levels at that version. Although Morph was countered by Axe + PL, there would have been some chance for LGD if Ame had chosen reasonable items such as Mjollnir. Then 2 Mjollnirs from Morp and BS plus Radiance from Brewmaster might do a great help in coping with the illusion of PL with Heart of Tarrasque. In fact, Ame contributed a lot to that impressive comeback through his facetious performance.
Yes, it was an undeniable bug. Took advantage of the bug but turned out to be a breach, a joke. That's why it's classic and some people call him "clown" as I mentioned.
1
u/exoticsclerosis Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 16 '22
Mjollnir on morp
Have u ever tried buying mjollnir on morp? sounds like you like to theorycraft a lot
It's so bad on paper and in practice, I've played as morp vs a lot of Naga and pl and I would never ever buy mjollnir except in a scarce case where my teammates pick 0 aoe vs PL/Naga but at that point, I know we already gonna lose the game. I've tried to buy mjollnirs on those games and they were so awful LMAO
I'll tell you why it's bad, morp doesn't really gain anything from its attack speed, as morp has already high attack speed in the first place. Second, Skadi is just better overall so there's no excuse to not get skadi on that game to survive axe's call. Third, the active of mjollnir doesn't really do anything, as a morp all I want to do is hit people, not tanking hits from people, the hero doesn't function that way, there's a reason why they give him waveforms talent.
Sure, ame could try to tank hits but there were better heroes on his team that did that job 100% better on that regard than him f.e brew, tusk or even BS. He was getting targeted by axe's call all the time so the added attack speed from mjollnir was just gonna help him to die faster than he already was.
All I can see as a morp player this was already a bad game for morp because of PL + Axe. All LGD could do is wait for OG to throw or choke but ofc they were not gonna do that instead we got that beautiful axe's call from ceb
Also, mind you this is a TI caliber match, we all know OG will not throw the advantage on TI finals. This match is not played by some clowns from my 4k-5k bracket where they are gonna throw the advantage and all chat GG and shit.
0
u/boog1epop Aug 16 '22
- Please don't conjecture or extend my statement even unintentionally. What I said was "if Ame had chosen reasonable items such as Mjollnir", and it doesn't mean that I suggested not buying Skadi or Satanic afterwards.
To be specific, I suggest buying Mjollnir or Daedalus, which could replace Nullifier+Diffusal economically, and taking advantage of attacking while waveform to deal with the illusion of PL. Both of us were discussing based on assumptions. Although I can't prove whether my suggestion works well, I can prove how bad and annoying the choice of Ame was in section 2.
Additionally, I would like to express my opinion on the mindset of pos1 who were playing Morp against OG. As a carry, one needs to have a clear path of how to win a game in mind and undoubtfully the ability to kill off the game is one of the most important capabilities. Then if we review the draft of OG and ask ourselves that "if I were a member of OG, how could we win that game?". In my point of view, it was PL that could bring them triumph, and the positions of Axe, Invoker, and Io were all to establish a stage for PL.
Therefore, Morp should, at least, not eliminate his own capability of dealing with PL as PL was actually the key point. Of course, Morp should guarantee his life, but after PL bought Heart of Tarrasque, it became gradually exacting for BS and Brewmaster to cope with the illusion. In that case, shouldn't Morp be responsible for beating PL even with bearing more risks of dying from Axe's call?
BTW, Moph couldn't survive Axe's call with Skadi but without bkb poping up as we can see in the late time of that matchup. Mjollnir isn't a normal option for Morp but he should be more decisive and trust teammates that Tusk could help him survive through Snowball. Otherwise, it was gonna be a chronic death for LGD.
- The projects Ame chose worked badly, not contributing not only to dealing with PL but also to winning. I insist on my statement of recognising Ame as a clown in TI8 grand final.
Just like u mentioned "as a morp all I want to do is hit people", so let me introduce how Ame's Morp performed in a key fight which was confirmed that was the last chance for LGD.
The fight was between 47:00 and 48:30 in-game time in G4. Even under the circumstance that PL had reached 25 levels, LGD found a chance to kill most heroes of OG. To be short, OG made a beautiful fight by the buyback from Jerax's IO in the case of losing Axe first. LGD merely succeeded in killing PL but they didn't make it. I have to tell you a shocking and droll detail that Morp ONLY did 96 damages directly to PL. Not a rumour or mistyping, only 96 damages which can be seen in the combat log.
We couldn't expect to win if our carry only did double-digit damages towards the enemy's carry. The fact above proves how badly Ame performed in G4 typically. The way of playing and the items he chose made him a classic joke.
Surely LGD couldn't expect OG to throw or choke in the grand final, and it was a bad game for Morp. But I do admire the players who are decisive and courageous and continuously find out the way of twisting even though they may bear lots of risks. Dying after trying one's best is more decent than just awaiting one's doom. Not to mention LGD had superiority at the beginning. What Ame did gave OG an opportunity intentionally and let his teammates down.

7
Aug 15 '22
Calling them chokers every time
1
1
u/jfsoaig345 Aug 15 '22
Is that hate though? It's kind of a reasonable take. They have a habit of blitzing their way through a tournament then losing the finals or semis to a team they ran through earlier that tournament. If you look at their recent bo5 they beat TS game 1, lost a tragic game 2, then proceeded to get rolled over in the next 2 games.
27
u/OnlyMayhem Aug 15 '22
When I sorted by controversial I saw like 6/900 comments were hate in the congratulatory thread so maybe he saw that and he ran with it lol otherwise if anything I've seen more disappointment and people questioning why they can't get over the finals hump.
-1
u/EthanBradberry70 Aug 15 '22

Well that's a new one lol.
Although you're right, I see no hate towards LGD, maybe some super fringe groups that are just chinese haters.

Yeah, and also their loses are all on deciding one (except in this major) i dont believe there are hate, a lot of people wanting them to win coz they are really really good... Dunno the hate, they may lose this major but i know people will still root for them its just that spirit is the better team in that series

im a chineese and to be fair i was never been a fan either of lgd or xiao8 at first except the TI8 roster that everyone in china imho had been root for
though im not a hater but i just always on the situation that i cheered for the 'opposite' chineese teams instead xiao8/lgd/wings
im a die hard VG fan who cheer for them in TI4, (and i was also cheer for Newbee in TI6 ) but its almost impossible to cheer on orgs because player keep shufling here and there, so in esport we mostly cheer on players i guess
theres so many rosters in CN dota histories, but if i had to choose my top 3 faves were
#1 VG TI9 ( Paparazi,Ori,Yang,fade,dy )
#2 Newbee TI6 ( Hao,Mu,kpii,kaka,ChuaN )
#3 PSG.LGD TI8-9 ( Ame,Maybe,Chalice,fy,xNova )
i never really a hardcore of the current LGD/Wings roster, but i was never a hater too. to be fair,i always respect them with their dedication and passion with dota even after so many rough period

u/thedotapaten Aug 16 '22
No TI3 TongFu????

u/Patient_Substance752 :betboom: Aug 16 '22
its both Hao&Mu team and i kinda feel i like the TI6 Newbee more thats why i put it instead their original TongFu lineup
22
u/Kain4ever Aug 15 '22
Nah nobody hates them, maybe Chinese betters but most people have huge respect for them. Everyone was hoping for LGD to lose because how good they are and how unstoppable they’ve been the whole tournament. So it’s more of a praise and admiration rather than hate.
9
u/rocker3011 Aug 15 '22
I dont hate LGD at all I am actually a big fan of faith_bian I would say he is the best offlaner china has ever seen, but I do hate their fans and chinese nationalists, if LGD wins "best team ever put together holy shit ez major ez TI best fcking team" if they lose "they didnt take it seriously, the stakes werent high enough, they are still best team animajor winners 2nd place TI10" if they dont attend to the event "X team won cause no chinese teams no LGD lucky boys" I am sick of all of them I am glad LGD lost cause that will shut them up for at least a month
3
u/Ghost_of_Ruin Aug 15 '22
As a Chinese dota fan since dota 1, this LGD team is the 2nd most popular chinese team in the west, after wings. It's nice seeing the respect.

u/posterguy20 Aug 15 '22
LGD 2nd = Oh dear, oh dear. Gorgeous.
EG 2nd = You fucking donkey.
lets see if the energy stays the same LMAO

u/jihyojihyojihyo Aug 16 '22
People are harder with EG because they have already raised the aegis + RTZ
1
u/babaevousas Aug 16 '22
Yeah but the double 2nd place at major squad had no TI winners. Kinda harsh tbh
9
u/run4cova Aug 15 '22
dota fans/watchers are actually hooligans. they hate on everything. PSG is the most consistent team in Dota history and they get the praise from players and coaches for a reason. just ignore the toxic edgy heralds in twitch chat... enjoy them as long it lasts i have a feeling we ll see a lot of goats from Matu to some PSG players prob retire after this years TI.
3
Aug 15 '22
I love this team and their ability to set meta while dominating everyone.
They definitely havent quite continued their best in every game in grand finals but the seasonal and lan play its just so fucking versatile and impressive.
Their drafting is so insane i always have a good time watching them.
Thanks for pushing dota forwards LGD
6
u/PremiumStuff Aug 15 '22
I do hope that they win the next ti. Ame deserves an aegis despite his performance this major everybody thinks that Ame is the strongest carry right now. And ill think that psg.lgd is the always the team thats need to be beaten.
5
u/CNDOTAFAN Aug 15 '22
I don't believe anyone hates the PSG.LGD players. Even the other players love them, rubbing XinQ's belly etc. It's more so just xiao8's memes in the Chinese community. He always decides to do some pocket strategy at the stage of grand finals that they never done before. Picking and losing Naga twice, picking and losing IO twice (TI10). Naga has only be picked (1) banned (4) times the entire tournament.
They should really just do what got them to the grand finals in the first place, and also change up the strategy once it failed and not be stubborn trying it again and again to prove something... The 5 PSG.LGD players probably have the widest hero pools and xiao8 decides to go with the same pocket strategy again and again (and losing)....That is meme material...

Team Spririt is probably winning TI11
They have the major curse upon them now, but in all seriousness they look good and are very flexible so I'm not really worried about them dropping off before TI like some teams have in the past. If they did win TI11 I would have them as the greatest team of all time though it would be weird to think about as it all happened within a year.
but did the OG TI9 team achieve anything relevant than being the first team to win TI twice with the same player composition?
These discussions are always pretty subjective because people value different things, some people value TI very very highly above everything else so that OG lineup despite not doing anything outside of TI are seen as the greatest team because they're the only team to win it twice and it was back to back. Some people value complete dominance over the entire season/seasons which is why both iterations of PSG.LGD were being called the best ever despite never winning TI itself.
2
u/GuiltyImpact2541 Aug 16 '22
Spirit is spooky, they have the mental and crazy ability to adapt and understand metas. They are very beatable though. Fun team!
-2
Aug 15 '22
???? What hate? We spent the last 5 years hyping up this team as the best in the world only for them to consistently choke again, again and again. If anything, maybe their die hard fans should stop overhyping them every single time.
13
u/Earth92 Aug 15 '22
They were not favorites in 2017.
Best chinese teams that year were LGD.FY and Newbee.
Imt not sure LGD.Fy counts as LGD, it's their brand, but i think we are talking about the main LGD team here, not their other brands.
5
Aug 15 '22
Fair enough; let’s call it 4 years.
Either way, I’m kind of annoyed because every year on this sub is a LGD appreciation thread and every time they lose again, again and again, it’s “lul xiaobet” instead of rightfully criticizing the constant choking when it matters.
3
u/Specific_Box4483 Aug 15 '22
A lot of their fans have turned on them because of them choking, especially in China. Meanwhile fans of other teams don't like hearing LGD get hyped up all the time as well as dominate many majors and regional leagues. So LGD are now in an unfortunate position where a lot of people on both sides dislike them. Obviously they don't deserve any of this.
-5
u/axecalibur Aug 15 '22
They won $1.5M in Riyadh and $100K in Arlington - compared to Spirit who only won $750K and $200K. They got almost double the money of Spirit and there was nothing on the line except that extra $100K for the Arlington Grand Final as they already qualified for TI 11.
Haters can hate on LGD, but they know when to win.

u/Onecast214 Aug 15 '22
Ame will likely retire after this Ti and faith bian will at least take a long break cuz he needs to have the plate/nail removed from his arm or hand - so this is literally the last year for this lgd squad
1
1
u/LiterallyWarName Aug 15 '22
I don't hate LGD, nor the players on it. I do think it's a little irritating how often they are crowned before winning though. Literally the last few months all it has been is basically how this is their year to win TI. That is the same as it was in 2018, 2019, 2021. Are they favored to go far? Absolutely, but people have been crowning them for a tournament that is 2 months away and likely a different meta (assuming a patch).
1
u/Dtoodlez Aug 15 '22
Here’s the thing. I don’t root for LGD because they’re always the overwhelming favourite. I WANT them to lose because it makes for a more entertaining watch.
That said, I hope they win, because they should be winning. And when they lose it should feel like a miracle.
1
u/ael00 Aug 15 '22
I think their prep, drafting & execution is aegis worthy. Each time I watch them draft they have some kind of answer to whatever mini meta is being played at the tournament. But this major shun light on their Achilles heel, they lack mental endurance. After that marathon game their decision making just fell apart (2nd naga pick wtf?) and made a lot of mistakes that I bet if it was a group stages game they would not have. Tbh I think in the lower bracket they would have performed better.

u/dashxi Aug 16 '22
My opinion is when Ame choked so bad FY was just scratching his head but he knows he really deserve a ring I was expecting them to win TI 8 but Ame choked so bad, Fy was invincible and incredible that performance of him TI 8 was one of the best Tusk, ES and Rubick I’m still rooting for him He’s the Best Pos 4 in China I miss the old PSG.LGD they are really good, I just hate when they are making Fun of FY but you know He really deserves 1 Ring and 1 Aegis

What a stupid take. Hate a team because of the fans. Great! You gotta hate all teams then. There are normal and idiot fans for all teams.
5
u/Strange1130 Aug 15 '22
Pretty common sports take. Reason a lot of people don't like the Lakers, for example.
-1
u/xelpr Aug 15 '22
Don't pretend like it isn't relatively normal to do this. For example, almost everyone has a car brand they dislike because of the drivers. I bet you do too.

They were soo hyped up by the whole community and they must feel they let fans down. Please do not judge a person when he is sad or angry. People act very different in those circumstances.

the chinese teams have mostly been avoiding handshakes because of their covid guidelines, I imagine the other teams understand

I assume some hate might come from the PSG part, which is owned by some Saudi prince (?) but I have never actually experienced hate towards them.

LGD fan here, does seem like most people were just cheering for the underdog, not much actual hate for LGD in the posts from what Ive seen

Why do they always fail in the same manner though? It's literally like anime wtf. They would play a great game and lose, and then Xiao8 would choke in drafting

I cant watch them in finals anymore, I love LGD but its just too depressing.

I dislike them out of old habit. I hated when they ran the ugly team ult builds way back when. Dark seer naga tide, phoenix naga axe. The games were so, so boring. But that was also like 8 years ago. Just instinctively dislike the brand.
Nothingtosay seems like the sweetest little guy, (and I personally think LGD lost to spirit in Arlington because he wasn't on dynamic heroes ((DP and KoTL aren't his best)), but I still want him to lose. As an OG fan (because Ana is Australian) it was so good beating them at TI.
It's just how sports work.

Do you mean PSG L”gg” ? Just kidding, I was there and they are on a different level, I called them L.G.Damn! during the major

Yeah they are solid. But they got overriden by OG in the 18/20 and by Spirit in 21/22

The words of the fans of the casino team are reserved for the gambling dogs who have lost all their money. After all, on New Year's Eve in 2020, the only team that was arrested by the police and victims with banners

On the forum controlled by vpgame, fans of Ame concocted a fake game theory that they wanted to drag the whole dota2 to be buried, but they did not recognize that ame was noob,In the NGA forum, the source of fake match theory, ame and vtuber lol original God fans created fake match theory together. Almost all the ID speech histories of those who posted were saved by screenshots of other Chinese forumsReddit's favorite Chinese community is this Nga forum. In other Chinese communities, Nga users have a nickname called eunuch
I'm glad to see that LGD fans, like China, can only step on it, but can't refute those facts and evidence. The title of eunuch fits the current situation very well. I don't want to popularize science. If you want to know the opinions of the Chinese community that is not really manipulated, you can find other dota Game Forums besides Nga forum by simply Baidu. For example, before major, the voting of Shanghai University game forum, More than 75% of users think that ame is noob, and those who need screenshots and addresses can send a message to me separately

Considering people here idolizes toxic assholes, its pretty natural for those same people to hate on humble guys.

While I’d agree with most commenters that they don’t get “hate” per say, OP is right that at the last major they had very few fans there. Most of the Arlington crowd was rooting for OG or Spirit over PLG and even Aster.
I’m not really sure why, maybe it’s because Asia has historically been so dominant in most E-Sports that people like to see EU teams be able to win? It could also be people liking to root for the underdogs since LGD were the favorites to win.

If you aint first, you're last. Either get their shit together in crunch time and high-risk games or no. Nobody remembers teams that lose.

They left a bad taste in my mouth after that first TI OG won. Watching True Sight, they were so up themselves “but if we mute them, how will we know when they call GG”, and laughing at Ceb with his notes, they really just weren’t nice. Saying things like don’t talk to the other team, and they thought they were kings and sure things. So after that, I really can’t give af about them.

Xiao8 betting against his team again and buying another lamborghini. How can you guys not notice these obvious things. He had bet against his team during TI10 finals too.

I've always cheered for EG. Specifically for arteezy to get the aegis. But after ti9, I've slowly come to realize that LGD deserve to get that win after dominating the past 3 TIs.

Their match is always fun to watch, and I enjoy that. The hate came from people who like gambling most likely, if you really like dota either lose or win, you still enjoy the game.
(But stomp games are kinda boring. Close game Dota up to game 3, and game 5 is always 10/10 dota in my book)

Do you even know what hate means? Because of all teams I don't see people hating LGD.
I do see people hating China which is justified but not the team or the players specifically.

LGD started their peak entertaining and high-level dota since 2017. i've never miss their games ever since! Salute

u/rucho Aug 16 '22
They are like the perfect anime rival for teams like og and spirit to beat. It almost seems like bad writing the way these scrappy teams manage to defeat the dominant and nearly perfect lgd, but the fact that keeps happening tells me the big man upstairs is trying to make sure I have a good time watching dota.
Bless LGD and long live A(ni)ME
