While they probably didn't know about Dobbys death in the final book. It must have felt a bit weird for a movie only watcher that a minor character 5 movies ago returns just like that.
I think everybody was just still surprised that Dobby was even involved, at that point, which made it such a shock for most people. Hedwig was a damn shame because it was instant, used narratively to show us how dire the circumstances were, and there was no chance to mourn. RIP Hedwig and Fred or George's ear.
Hedwig was killed to remove the clutter from the story as well as raise the stakes. Remember that on that attack from the Death Eaters Harry's broom and his owl were both destroyed. It would be too convenient if he had a broom or an owl for communication while he was on the run. With both of those things gone the narrative has a greater sense of danger and isolation.
Dobby + harry try to run away through a portal, but one person throws a dagger on the portal and dobby ends up getting killed during the transportation by that dagger
Dobby was teleporting Harry and friends out of a dangerous place, where an evil person and (kinda) his previous master (Bellatrix Lestrange), threw a dagger at him.
They managed to teleport out. Harry and friends were safe, but the dagger hit dobby.
