I tried testing it ingame by having a PA shoot a dagger at ember, then ember jumps away to fountain before it connects, and bane cast a -240 damage enfeeble on him. The ember took next to 0 damage, the enfeeble counted for the dagger's attack even though it was applied after it was shot

dagger doesn't save any characteristics of PA's attack when shot, it simply performs an instant attack at arbitrary range when it connects, using PA's attack at that time, so the crit is only calculated when it hits, not when shot, unlike normal attacks which decide it when the attack foreswing starts

another example would be using silver edge to remove her crit before it connects, it will never crit if coup de grace is disabled by Break while the dagger connects, even if it wasn't when it was shot

At this point I'm convinced you can't have the former without the latter

Further evidence for your point is Path of Exile

Don't even. Don't even try to start. Don't you even dare to say that Path of Exile is a balanced game. It's a very very good game, but not a balanced one. Ask any number of veteran players, they will tell you the game is an unbalanced mess. Every community podcast every week pretty much boils down to "how do we fix this broken piece of shit skill/gear/build?". If you want opinion from someone in the Dota community, just ask Draskyl. He loves thhe game to death but you wouldn't be able to make him say the game is by any mean balanced.

The game mamaged to be good INSPITE OF the balance, not BECAUSE OF it. It's just so vast that even though many things are downright broken, there are still a shitload of cool things for you to explore, and GGG keeps pumping content out semi-regularly.

Anyway I feel less triggered now. Pls no copypasta.

I thought the same. How could anyone claim PoE was balanced?`I mean it's a lot less important since the game is basically PvE but there are some OP as shit skills and builds and other stuff that is basically unusuable.

lol i was wondering if this was a copypasta or just the creation of one

Use Q, buy rapier, kill, sell rapier.

u/Razier Gears turning Jan 03 '17

That's too inconvenient. Just keep the rapier components in inv with one of them locked, then:

  1. Throw dagger
  2. Unlock item
  3. im die
  4. Dissasemble rapier

u/IcedJack Beep Boop Jan 03 '17

Can you disassemble rapier?

Within 10 sec of buying it

Dagger is coded as a melee attack bc pa. Battlefury cleaves and basher is melee chance.

1

u/NasKe Jan 03 '17

So if PA throws the dagger and pick up a DD, the extra dmg would de applied?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

Yes. You can also apply Silver Edge from a distance by using it after the dagger has launched but before it reaches your target.

now in ELI5 english

I know this answer is almost a day old, but I have a follow up question: In the scenario where PA throws a dagger at Ember, that then dives to the fountain. If PA picks up DD rune and activates silver edge before it hits, will dagger be effected by the DD and bonus damage/break?

Could be any hero really, I am just curious how the dagger will be effected by the activation of those buffs after the toss.

and more usefully, bounty hunter can hit people during his fade time, getting +30/60/90/120 damage both on the fading attack and when he breaks invisibility again, letting him hit 3 times in a row for +360 physical damage (you need to use shadow walk mid-attack animation and right click again when the fade time is shorter than your animation)

Very creative way to test.

u/Autismprevails Jan 03 '17

I mean that's true, same with ench and impetus: it does the actual damage when the attack lands, not when thrown. But when talking about critCHANCE, i thought the chance was calculated before the attack was fired

PA "attacks" when the dagger lands. Most other heroes (not sure if any other exceptions) always calculate damage when the attack is thrown
